United Terminate Mason Greenwood's Contract

Greenwood will be waving goodbye to Old Trafford for good this time, after not featuring in a squad since Viana's takeover.

Manchester United have terminated Mason Greenwood’s contract, ending the controversial saga surrounding the 25-year-old forward. Greenwood, who had previously left the club amid serious sexual assault allegations, was brought back under the direction of former Sporting Director Wilcox—a decision that proved divisive among fans and players alike. With Wilcox now dismissed, a unified front between Ruben Amorim, Director of Football Viana, and the club hierarchy moved swiftly to remove Greenwood from the squad permanently.

The decision comes as United look to stabilize the squad both on and off the pitch during a difficult 2027-28 campaign, in which the team has struggled to meet expectations. Greenwood’s presence had caused tension among players and supporters, undermining morale and contributing to a fractured environment. The club emphasized that off-field conduct is as important as performance, and this decisive action signals United’s commitment to integrity, unity, and maintaining a positive culture as they rebuild and focus on future success.

You know I kind of figured you would go this route!! I 100% support getting rid of Wilcox and hiring Viana! Utd really need to approach things the way you have here. Cutting Greenwood too is a major choice but gives you more cred! Good to see if Utd can hold it together now with so much change. I notice you have played Garner and even Collyer at the back recently. Are you struggling with injuries/depth? Or does it help to have players better with their feet in those roles?
