Arkansas rolls over North Alabama for Silverfield's first win in Fayetteville
Fayetteville, Arkansas - Arkansas gave Ryan Silverfield his first home victory in emphatic fashion, overwhelming North Alabama 48-0 behind an explosive offense and a suffocating defensive performance.
After settling for a Max Gilbert field goal in the opening quarter, the Razorbacks broke the game open with 21 points in the second. KJ Jackson connected with Chris Marshall for a 70-yard touchdown before Braylen Russell powered in from 16 yards out. Jackson added an 11-yard touchdown pass to CJ Brown with seven seconds remaining in the half, sending Arkansas to the locker room with a 24-0 advantage.
Jackson was nearly flawless, completing 22 of 26 passes for 309 yards and four touchdowns. Marshall proved to be his biggest weapon, hauling in seven passes for 174 yards and two scores, including touchdowns of 70 and 75 yards. Russell provided balance on the ground with 122 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries as Arkansas piled up 557 yards of total offense and averaged 10.9 yards per play.
The Razorbacks were every bit as dominant defensively. North Alabama managed just 80 yards of offense, including only 14 rushing yards, and picked up four first downs. Ja'Quavion Smith led Arkansas with eight tackles and two tackles for loss, while the Razorbacks recorded three sacks and held the Lions to 2-of-10 on third down.
Arkansas continued pulling away in the second half, with Jackson finding Jaden Platt for his fourth touchdown pass before Sutton Smith capped the afternoon with a 64-yard touchdown run.
The 48-point shutout gave Silverfield his first win at home as Arkansas head coach and delivered exactly the kind of complete performance the Razorbacks were looking for in Fayetteville.
