BRONCOS BOUNCCE BACK BIG AGAINST BEARS
GAME RECAP

Coming off a disappointing loss to UCAL in Week 6, Boise State bounced back in a big way against (4-1) Cal in Week 7. The Broncos jumped out to a early (17-0) lead in the 1st Quarter and extended the lead to (34-0) as the Bronco Defense comes up with a pair of INT's off SO QB Mike Harvey (87 Ovr). Harvey would manage to lead to late scoring drives (TD and a FG) as the Bears make it (34-10) at the half.

After a 5 turnover came against the Bruins, JR QB Cam Hooks was back to himself throwing for almost 300 yds and 2TD in the including a 82 yd bomb to Kyle Harmon and a 72 yd bomb to RB JerMacrcus Boykins

Cal would actually out score the Broncos in the 3rd Quarter holding BSU to a pair of FG's well Harvey connects on a 28 yd score his SR TE Keke Wonnum (76 ovr) before completing the score with a 2pt play to make it (40-18) going into the 4th..

Despite the 3 score lead BSU continued to pour it on in the 4th Quarter scoring 3 more times as Brian Crum scores his 2nd TD of the game before turning the rest of the quarter over to his good friend Drew Waller who finishes with 15 carries for 61 yds including a 19 yd TD..

Already with 1 receiving touchdown on the day, SR JerMarcus Boykins adds to his total as he hauls in another score giving him over 200 All-purpose yards on the day.

Cal would tack on a late score with less then a minute to play making it (61-25) but BSU wasn't done as Coach Miller sends out Cedric Eagles for a his 5th FG of the game (48 yds) in the final seconds. FINAL SCORE BOISE STATE-64 CAL-25

IIMPACT FROM THE GAME/UP NEXT

Despite the win Boise State remains at #12 going into their Week 8 matchup with (4-2) Colorado. The Buffs started the season 3-0 with wins over N. Texas and Fresno State (as well as N. Colorado) but have lost 2 of their last 3 including a (35-21) loss @ Washington in Week 7.

BOISE STATE WINS AGAIN

GAME RECAP

Boise State improved to (6-1) Overall and (3-1) in Pac-12 play as the Broncos dominate the 1st half taking a (41-7) lead over Colorado. Cam Hooks was back to his Heisman type form throwing a trio of touchdowns in the 1st Quarter (33 yds K. Harmon, 29 yds L. Ika and 39 yds to Taj Carr) finishing the half with 304 yd.

BSU would also add 2 more scores late in the 2nd Quarter as Brian Crum runs for 100 yds and 2 scores including a 39 yd touchdown to close out the half.

Crum opened up the 3rd quarter extending the lead with his 3rd rushing touchdown as he goes for the "Hat trick" Already with 25 carries and 159 yds and 3 TD on the day, Crum would take the 4th Quarter off as Jermarcus Boykins takes over rushing 10 times for 48 yds including a 14 yd touchdown to extend the lead yet again.

The only highlight for Colorado in the 2nd half was a late FG..FINAL SCORE BOISE STATE-55 COLORADO-10

WR K. Harmon-4 rec 51 yds 1 TD
WR Taj Carr-1 rec 39 yds 1 TD
WR M. Kramer-2 rec 20 yds

THE GOOD/BAD/UGLY

Good- The Bronco Defense has created a turnover in every game this season.

The Bad-After scoring 41 points in the 1st Half, BSU scored just 2 times in the 2nd half (honestly didn't feel like putting up 80+ so I super simmed most of the 2nd half)

The Ugly- Colorado was 0/12 on 3rd Downs FR Punter Baylon Bada punted 8 times for 340 yds well the Offense managed just 236 yds of Total Offense.

IMPACT OF THE GAME/UP NEXT

Despite loss's by both the #1 and #2 team in the rankings BSU doesn't move up yet again staying at #12 going into Week 9 in the last Media Poll of the year, as starting next week we will focus on the College Football Rankings.

BSU will face it's biggest challenge of the season in Week 9 as the Broncos will take on the #6 ranked Oregon Ducks. Oregon is a perfect (7-0) Overall and 4-0 in Pac-12 play coming off a (41-27) win vs Washington.. The Ducks also own victories over Nebraska (#1 at the time) and USC

Didn’t think you guys would fall in the regular season, but nice job piecing a couple of wins together to get back on track. Huge game against Oregon coming up, looking forward to it!

WINNING ON THE FIELD DOENS'T EQUAL OFF THE FIELD

After landing back to back #2 Overall Class's one would think that Coach Matt Miller had finally turned the corner when it comes to bringing top talent to Boise, but despite a (6-1) start in what appears to be another season in which BSU should compete for a Pac-12 title and a playoff spot, the Broncos are taking some major loss's on the recruiting trail including the only 2 QB targets BSU had for the 2032 class.

With 5* QB Tobias Barksdale already on the roster redshirting, and Oklahoma transfer Kyle Gowin (RS SO) Miller struggled to add another top rated QB to his year's class as both 5* Robert Sharp (#8 Overall/#3 QB)-Oklahoma and 5* Joey Kumah (#30 Overall/#7 QB)-Nebraska are now officially off the board.

QB isn't the only position of struggle. With most assuming Brian Crum will be leaving early for the NFL Draft and JerMarucs Boykins and Tyler Fry both set to graduate, BSU currently is projected to have just 2 RB on next year's roster in former 5* Recruits Drew Waller and Greg Stock.

Miller fails to land the #1 RB in the class after going back to back to back with Crum/Waller/Short as 5* RB Hunter Mare (#14 Overall/#1 CO/#1 RB) joins Kumah at Nebraska as BSU finishes #2.

Mare wasn't the only highly rated RB to spurn the Broncos though as 4* Frank Montague (#109 Overall/#9 RB) picks USC and 4* Desmond Lemon (#123 Overall/#11 RB) is head to Arizona State.

It didn't stop there though. Texas not only beat BSU last year in the playoffs ending their National Title hopes but now the Longhorns are putting a huge dent in their future hopes well adding to theirs. as 3 players are headed to Austin as BSU finishes #2

4* RT Leon Ansah (#155 Overall/#11 OT), 5* LB DaShaun Tonyan (#7 Overall/#1 TX/#2 LB) and 5* DE Kevin Brankston (#9 Overall/32 TX/#1 DE)

Coach Miller "
We knew trying to land the Top-2 players in the state of Texas were going to be tough but both guy's had us in their Top-5 to start the year and both players had a great visit to Boise, which gave us some hope."
USC and Arizona State were not the only Pac-12 teams to pry away players off the Broncos Big Board.

4* TE Tahj Golladay (#85 Overall/#8 CA)-Oregon and 4* DE Tim Onatolu (#111 Overall/#11 CA)-UCLA also are players BSU can expect to see on opposite sidelines for the next 4 years.

Miller and the Broncos didn't completely swing and miss the first 8 weeks of the season.. BSU came away with 1 hit and it was a big one..

5* LB Tyl Hoppes the #5 Overall, #1 LB and California Gatorade POY (#1 CA) has made it official picking BSU over Oregon before taking his Week 10 visit to Eugene.

BSU still has 25 players left on their Big Board but with at least 25 open scholarships plus potential NFL early entries and transfer portal decision Miller has plenty of scholarships to offer..

It's always a struggle playing a Top raated/ranked team on the road for me.. UCLA is good.. Not as good as Texas was in the playoffs last year, but they played a great game.. Hooks was horrible,, I couldn't run and the turnovers just kept piling up.. Cal and Colorado win totals were sorta inflated they are not as good as their records show.

UCLA is a 89 Overall,, well Cal is a 79 and Colorado is a 75. Oregon will be my biggest game of the year (94/94/94) and then Washington in Week 13 (86/86/86) but the Huskies have already dropped 2 Pac-12 games so really it's going to come down to me and the Ducks.

If I beat Oregon, I will most likely get a rematch against UCLA in the Pac-12 title game. The Bruins are currently #18 and 7-0 Overall and 4-0 in Pac-12 play but Stanford is (6-1) and 4-0 as well and they play each other in Week 13 so we will see.

nice bounce back from Hooks after a rough outing in the loss to the Bruins.

Are you playing in Oregon this year? Autzen is always tough, could spell another long day for Hooks
