Stanford adds another offensive line project to the class in three-star Eric Largent

Bubba Mack has another chunk of clay to mold with three-star offensive lineman Eric Largent committing to the Cardinal.

An under the radar prospect that drew interest from out of state schools such as Kentucky and Arizona along with San Diego State, Largent has skyrocketed up the rankings since his junior season to land at 438 in the prospect rankings, right on the border of being a four-star.

He comes from a high school that has produced a Stanford great in Toby Gerhart and has some intriguing qualities that show up regularly on his film, specifically his physicality in the running game and his ability to gain ground with his first step. The lack of length and size at six-foot-two is likely what kept Largent out of being a four-star and there are questions at where he ultimately lands along the offensive line, whether at guard or ultimately center despite never snapping before.

If he can get his snapping down and clean up his technique, Largent could be one of those guys that is a fifth-year senior who ends up being a key member of an elite offensive line but shouldn't be expected to make an impact any time soon.

Stanford losses out on another corner but add versatile offensive weapon in Marcus Mangold

There's good news and there's bad news for Stanford fans. The bad news is that UCLA has once again landed another corner target of Stanford's in four-star Raekwon Kendricks, who announced his commitment on Friday night during his game. Kendricks had been a top target for the Cardinal, who have already seen two other corners in Roderick Whitaker and Deshawn John commit to the Bruins.

The good news is that one of the more unique prospects in this class, Marcus Mangold, has pledged to be a Stanford Cardinal.

The six-foot-one, 228 pound prospect does a little bit of everything for powerhouse Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama from special teams ace, rushing the passer as a hybrid linebacker/edge rusher but its on offense that his tape really pops. Mangold primarily lines up in the backfield but is far from a traditional running back as they use him as a lead blocker, send him out into the flats as a receiver, hand the ball off to him in short yardage and have even broken out some wildcat packages for him where he throws the football.

Twenty years ago, Mangold would have been a top fullback prospect but in the modern college football world, he projects as a tight end or H-back, which we see the Cardinal use, especially in their running game as that lead blocker. It'll be interesting to see if Stanford lets him try it out at running back but given the level of talent they've recruited at that position, tight end or somewhere on defense might be his best bet for playing time.
