Bowles looking to tighten defense up while Bienemy excited about young backfield
Sebastian Barnes -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

The Toronto Huskies signed 16 players to bring their roster total up to 75 as they head into training camp, including former all-pro cornerback Patrick Peterson.

The signings also included quarterbacks Joshua Dobbs and Kelly Bryant, running backs Junior Bullough and Jarrod Fitzgerald, wide receivers Scott Myler and Tyler Adams, offensive tackles Ronnell Neal and Ronnie Delmas, guard Nick Sanchez, center Terrance Holcombe, defensive tackles Simon Burks and Seth Holloway, outside linebackers Trent Harris and Cassius Marsh Sr., cornerback Tremon Smith, safeties Jayron Kearse and Javelin Guidry.

Top Storylines
The running back position
One of the first acts of the current front office was trading running back Derrius Guice and more recently, letting Bryce Love walk. On the surface, it appeared that they were going to go cheap at running back, especially considering that Sherwin Florence, a fourth round pick, won Offensive Rookie of the Year. Toronto not only spent a first round pick on a running back, they doubled back up again in the second round and got Kyree Sampson.

The archetype seems clear on paper: McBride the every down back, Florence in short yardage and Sampson as a receiving, third down back. Will this method work and will the gamble on Sampson and McBride pay off?

Who replaces McLaurin?
Toronto let Terry McLaurin walked and signed Miles Boykin, Andy Isabella, re-signed Braxton Berrios and drafted Richard Leonard. The expectations are low for Leonard with his contributions likely to be non-existent as the six-foot-two, 175 pound receiver out of Charleston Southern continues to learn the position.

With that being said, Boykin is the natural fit as he is an outside receiver that would allow Rondale Moore to remain on the slot with Chris Godwin on the outside. Berrios' production, however, could compel the team to move Moore to the outside and start Berrios in the slot. Don't sleep on Allen Lazard either, who was a star in last year's preseason.

The logjam at defensive back
Toronto has a lot of defensive backs, talented ones too, despite their poor team performance the last two seasons.

At corner, Ashley Konrad emerged as the team's top cover guy to go along with Chidobe Awuzie. At nickel, is when things get exciting. Donovan Bigby was outperforming Konrad before Konrad went on a different tear towards the end of last season. The team also added Patrick Peterson, who is currently listed as wearing number 7. While this is likely Peterson hanging on to his old college number during the preseason while he can, it also shows that Peterson's slot as the fourth corner isn't guaranteed. Not when there are guys like Lavert Hill, who was a starter as a rookie, and Tremon Smith.

At safety is where the logjam truly begins. Earl Thomas was brought on as a replacement for Devin McCourty, although he'll have his job cut out with Jalen Thompson and Troy Apke, a guy who recorded 180+ tackles in two seasons as a starter. Add in track star Javelin Guidry and first round pick Charlie Pelfrey and you wonder what exactly comes out of training camp at safety.
