2026 Mississippi State Defensive Preview
Returning Starters - 2

Edge Rushers
#NameYearHeightWeightHometown
42Darron Reed JrJR(RS)6’4”286Columbus, GA
46Joseph Head JrJR(RS)6’4”257Lexington, MS
96Tyron LandriFR6’6”280Lucedale, MS
93Joe BoykinsFR6’2”220Lucedale, MS
95Greg BiggsFR6’4”217Metairie, LA
92Oscar RuggsFR6’2”233Marshall, TX
98Quincy RahmanFR6’6”290Marietta, GA
94Scott McGlynnFR6’3”252Hempstead, TX
Grade - B-
Darron Reed Jr is a returning starter and he will be teamed up with Joseph Head Jr on the other side of the line. However, it's all Freshman once you get past them including a couple that might be a bit undersized.

Defensive Tackles
#NameYearHeightWeightHometown
23Trevion WilliamsSR(RS)6’4”296Crystal Springs, MS
99Jamarcus MoyeJR(RS)6’5”347Phenix City, AL
90Kai McClendonSO(RS)6’2”318Gulfport, MS
55Colin CoatesJR(RS)6’2”311Baltimore, MD
Grade - B+
Having to replace the starting defensive tackles from last year is no joke but Trevion Williams and Jamarcus Moye both showed up big in spring camp and are looking to make a name for themselves this season.

Outside Linebackers
#NameYearHeightWeightHometown
10Jalen SmithJR(RS)6’2”231Grayson, GA
41Tyshun WillisSO(RS)6’2”253Camden, MS
11Tyler LockhartSO(RS)6’2”230Bassfield, MS
14Devan WebsterSO(RS)6’2”266Oxford, MS
7Zakari TillmanSR(RS)6’2”236Florence, MS
31Lakendrick JamesJR(RS)6’2”251Shelby, MS
30Montrell ChapmanJR(RS)6’3”232Batesville, MS
20Timote TopaFR6’4”225Atlanta, GA
52Isaac CoffeyFR6’0”214Peoria, AZ
13Taurean YanceyJR(RS)6’2”231Baton Rouge, LA
Grade - B
Jalen Smith is the other defensive starter returning from last year, but that doesn't mean this group lacks experience. Look for Tyshun Willis to immediately find himself at home as he gets starts and racks up the tackles.

Middle Linebackers
#NameYearHeightWeightHometown
16Derion GulletteJR(RS)6’3”241Marlin, TX
0Fatt ForrestSO(RS)6’2”239Kilmichael, MS
32AJ RiceSO(RS)6’1”242Huntsville, AL
27Jamerson BarmoreFR6’0”227Alpharetta, GA
34Isaiah MaduFR6’2”209Louisville, MS
Grade - B+
While they might be a guy short in the depth chart there is not a lack of it at middle linebacker for the Bulldogs. Derion Gullette will be leading the line for the Bulldogs and Fatt Forrest is a great talent himself that will be able to step up if called upon.

Cornerbacks
#NameYearHeightWeightHometown
15Jayven WilliamsSR(RS)6’2”186Mobile, AL
24Elijah CannonSO(RS)6’0”182Coconut Creek, FL
8Lonnie MaddoxFR6’1”178Memphis, TN
6Damon WhittakerJR(RS)6’2”204Lake Cormorant, MS
25Quincy NwaneriFR5’10”178Houston, TX
17Jose AndrewsFR6’1”177Bakersfield, CA
Grade - C+
One of the weaker elements of the Bulldog defense. A pretty young group that is lead by Senior Jayven Williams, look for their success to be a key part of the defensive success for the Bulldogs.

Free Safeties
#NameYearHeightWeightHometown
12Tyler WoodardSR(RS)6’2”212Memphis, TN
21Antonio MoeFR6’0”187Cincinnati, OH
18Sekou Smith JrFR(RS)6’0”183Miami, FL
4James Van NessFR5’10”189Madison, MS
19Cyrus ReyesSO(RS)6’1”202Katy, TX
Grade - C+
Another spot that is a bit weaker on the Bulldog defense, Tyler Woodard will be the starter but after that there is a clear lack of experience that could be a problem for the Bulldogs.

Strong Safeties
#NameYearHeightWeightHometown
22Peyton BowenSR(RS)6’0”203Corinth, TX
9Tony MitchellSR(RS)6’1”216Alabaster, AL
36Ja’bryis StewartJR(RS)6’1”217Crystal Springs, MS
3Emanuel RossiFR6’1”179Mount Pleasant, TX
Grade - B
Peyton Bowen is a big name transfer from Oklahoma who has had a history of making plays when the game is on the line. Strong Safety was a strong position last season for the Bulldogs with the way the defense is set up. Look for Bowen to have a break out season.

Kickers
#NameYearHeightWeightHometown
80Kyle FerrieSR(RS)6’1”206Searcy, AR
10Kevin Ah YouFR5’8”181Park City, UT
Grade - B-
Kyle Ferrie is the returning kicker but I don't consider a kicker or a punter a returning starter. He should easily have the job even with some missteps and injuries from last season.

Punters
#NameYearHeightWeightHometown
88Ethan PulliamSO(RS)6’1”192Starkville, MS
16Taylor LaulettaFR6’3”168Colonial Heights, VA
Grade - B-
Ethan Pulliam comes into the season as the starter but Taylor Lauletta will be waiting for his chance if Pulliam starts to have any issues.

AJ Turner watch on week 2.
Slipping App State at the end, a true SEC schedule.
I’m guessing 7 wins this season.

I really hope Bowen eats. Isaac Smith was an easy all-american before he got caught up in an armed robbery (charges dropped though)

I would be estatic with 7 wins. This is a tough conference and every week in conference play is a battle.
