KSU's first commitment overshadowed by Skyler Williams' post-game comments

KENNESAW, Ga. -- Three-star offensive lineman Iosefa Tatupu committed to Kennesaw State on Sunday but the story over the weekend was Owls' quarterback Skyler Williams' comments after the Western Kentucky game, disagreeing with head coach Bubba Mack's assessment of his early season struggles.
"I don't really think so," Williams said when asked about Mack's previous statement that he was trying to prove himself to the new members of the team, "I think I'm a team captain for a reason so I don't think I need to like prove anything or was pressing or trying to make myself look good. I think I just need to play better and tonight I did."
Earlier last week, Mack had this to say about Williams' two interception against Missouri State:
"I think he's trying to prove himself and establish himself," Mack said of Williams' struggles, "A lot of the guys that he's playing with right now, they weren't here last year. They didn't see him, you know, throw for however many yards and all the touchdowns he scored, all the games he carried us through. So I think he's pressing right now, trying to show to them that he's the guy and he's the leader of the team but we just have to do a better job of settling him into games and letting the game come to him. I think that's on all of us, as a coaching staff, as a team and ultimately, it's up to [Williams] to make the plays that are there."
Williams responded with his best game of the season, even though his assessment of his play differs from that of Mack.

High school recruiting actually looking decent this season. Prestige boost giving you more points or figured out your strategy?

HB Evan Dickens 17 Car, 160 Yds, 2 TDInjuries
CB Sam Neely (Junior) Foot Fracture (3 Weeks)Players to Watch
QB Sedrick Sparks (R-Jr) | 6′2″, 210lbs | 78 OVR, 82 SPD, 92 THP, 81 SAC, 75 MAC, 78 DAC‣ The first-year starter hasn't been the problem in Liberty's losing streak, having arguably his two best games during the losing spell. He threw for a career high 293 yards and two touchdowns against the Bearkats last week and had a 84-yard completion two weeks ago against Jax State so he's far from just a game manager.
HB Davante Maddox (R-Fr) | 6'1", 206lbs | 77 OVR, 94 SPD, 91 ACC, 85 COD‣ The two running backs -- Jaylon Coleman and Evan Dickens -- that ran all over the Owls defense might no longer be at Liberty but the Flames still have a talented running back in Maddox. Similar to Sparks, he's been getting better throughout the season with a 97-yard performance against Jax State and last week, he averaged his second consecutive game at five-yards per carry along with a touchdown.
EDGE Desmond Umeozulu (R-Sr) | 6'6", 256lbs | 82 OVR, 81 SPD, 82 STR, 77 BSH, 83 FMV‣ Skyler Williams was sacked three times in the conference championship game last year and the best way to slow down this Owls offense is to get them behind the sticks, forcing them to abandon their running game. Umeozulu is the Flames' top edge rusher with 5.5 sacks last year and two sacks this season. He was quiet in the conference championship game but in the earlier game that year, he had three tackles for loss and two sacks.

gotta get commits first to see if this plan works but just started expanding my board even if i didn't have any points, beyond the initial scholarship, to give to them. i then knock off the guys that had other offers until I'm left with the guys that clearly have interest and/or not a lot of competition for

This is what I do - offer 35 scholys in the preseason and then let the lower rated ones sit on the bottom with 5-10 points if I can spare it. Top guys get the full 50, but if a higher pipeline school passes me in the first 6 weeks I drop and pivot. I also check out the highest rated 3/4* recruits midway through the season (when I do my recruiting update post) and scout any that are either in my pipeline or have me in the top 10, without any other major offers. Was able to snag the three 4* CBs last season that waySoapy wrote: ↑25 Aug 2025, 10:18gotta get commits first to see if this plan works but just started expanding my board even if i didn't have any points, beyond the initial scholarship, to give to them. i then knock off the guys that had other offers until I'm left with the guys that clearly have interest and/or not a lot of competition for

A previous house rule of mine was preventing this method but I've dropped it to adapt. My previous house rule was that the number of targets on the board could not exceed my number of seniors and that once a player was added, you could not remove them unless they locked you our or committed elsewhere. This was needed in NCAA 14 since it was pretty easy to land guys by just targeting 4-star recruits that were underrecruited and then hoarding your board/roster with guys and just cutting the lower rated recruits. With the transfer portal and recruiting being harder in general, I don't think this rule is needed anymore.redsox907 wrote: ↑25 Aug 2025, 12:12This is what I do - offer 35 scholys in the preseason and then let the lower rated ones sit on the bottom with 5-10 points if I can spare it.
