ROBINETTE DIVES FOR THE GO AHEAD TOUCHDOWN WITH 43 SECONDS LEFT

Arkansas looked like it had authored one of the wildest comebacks of the season yesterday in Fayetteville. Instead, the Razorbacks walked off the field stunned as Ole Miss ripped away a dramatic 41-38 victory on a touchdown as time expired.

For most of the second half, it was the dual-threat brilliance of quarterback D'Eriq Robinette that kept Arkansas alive. The Razorbacks trailed by 10 entering the fourth quarter before Robinette almost single-handedly dragged them back into the game with a series of heroic plays that electrified the home crowd.

Robinette finished with 168 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries while also throwing for 129 yards and a score. Every time Arkansas needed a spark, he delivered.

Arkansas cut the lead to three on an early fourth quarter TD pass from Cornelius Rivas III, who had been rotating with Robinette, to freshman receiver Matt Martell early in the fourth quarter. Following an Ole Miss punt Robinette put Arkansas on top with a bruising 3-yard touchdown run that made it 31-27 Arkansas with 3:18 remaining.

Then, after the Rebels marched back ahead on a 2-yard touchdown run by quarterback Micah Rhodes, Robinette engineered what appeared to be the defining drive of the season.

With the Razorbacks trailing 34-31 late, Robinette capped a frantic possession with a 9-yard touchdown run with just 43 seconds left sending Razorback Stadium into chaos.

But the celebration lasted only moments.

Ole Miss quarterback Rhodes, who threw for 398 yards and two touchdowns, quickly pushed the Rebels into striking distance. With the clock showing zeros, Rhodes delivered the dagger, a 35-yard heave into the endzone that somehow ended up in the hands of senior receiver Ronald Hawkins, silenced the stadium and completed one of the most devastating finishes Arkansas has suffered in years.

The Razorbacks actually opened the scoring in the first quarter when Robinette connected with Brian Browne on a 28-yard touchdown pass, but Ole Miss seized momentum before halftime behind touchdowns from Willie Miller and Robert Gray to take a 17-10 lead into the break.

Arkansas stayed within striking distance thanks to a balanced effort from Robinette and Rivas III, who completed all nine of his passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Rivas found Bryan Brant for a 44-yard score in the third quarter and later hit Martell for a short touchdown in the fourth.

Still, despite the offensive fireworks, the Razorbacks had no answer for Ole Miss’ passing attack. Gray hauled in eight catches for 148 yards and a touchdown, while Brooks added 108 receiving yards as Rhodes repeatedly exploited the Arkansas secondary in critical moments.

In the end, Robinette delivered everything Arkansas could have asked for. It just wasn’t enough to overcome one final snap.
