Wheaton, Defense Leads Chargers to Win over Colts to Halt Losing Streak
A solid rushing attack, a mobile quarterback and a stingy defense. Brian Flores might be able to squeeze out a few more wins than expected if the Chargers team that showed up on Sunday keeps getting off the bus.

Rookie quarterback Rashaud Wheaton threw and ran for a touchdown, proving to be just enough as the defense took care of the rest as the Chargers beat the Colts 17-10 on Sunday.

After Indianapolis made it a seven point game with 8:44 left in the game, Los Angeles couldn't quite put it away. They embarked on a ten-play drive, getting the ball to the Colts 39-yard line but for the next three downs, gained just one-yard to find themselves on fourth and nine. It was on this down that Flores dialed up a fake field goal, pitching the ball to Hunter Henry on a shovel pass but he was brought down just inches short of the first down.

The Chargers defense forced a three-and-out following a stop on third-and-one but once again, the Chargers offense couldn't put the game away.

A 31-yard completion on fourth and seven kept the Colts in the game, getting as far as the Chargers one-yard line before Sam Ehlinger was sacked. He'd be sack again and throw two more incompletions to seal the game.

Behind the Numbers: Breakdown of Chargers Week Six Win vs. Indianapolis Colts
With the way the team was playing, it was tough to project where the Chargers were going to be able to get some wins. When they traded away Hal Sams, it seemed that they were punting on the season and perhaps tanking for a better draft position.

Not so fast, my friend. The defense showed up as did the rushing attack and they were able to get a win just as reinforcements are on the way as the injury report is clearing up.

Don't look now but the Chargers are just a game behind from the divisional lead and 12th in the AFC standings. They also are catching the Kansas City Chiefs at just the right time.

Patrick Mahomes II is likely to not suit up and the quarterback they'll be facing is one that the team said no to and cut in the preseason, last year's backup QB Anthony Tinker. Should Tinker get the start, Los Angeles should be able to deploy a similar gameplan as last week when they just relied on their defense which gets Derwin James Jr. back in the lineup. Kansas City is also without it's top back in Denard Melvin.

With a win and a Las Vegas lost, the Chargers could find themselves tied for the division and all of a sudden, in the playoff chase.

In Battle of Rookie QBs, Arnold Comes Out on Top as Chiefs Survive Without Mahomes
The Los Angeles Chargers prepared all week for former backup Anthony Tinker to suit up for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Instead, it was rookie quarterback Reilly Arnold who led their divisional rivals to a 30-20 win on Sunday as he outdueled his draft-classmate Rashaud Wheaton.

When it came to the winning plays, Arnold was nothing more than a spectator. The Chiefs extended their three point lead just two plays after Wheaton connected with Terron Conley for a 40-yard gain. Wheaton completed a screen pass to Felix Whittaker who was then stripped off the ball and returned for a touchdown.

The Chargers responded with a touchdown as Wheaton completed six passes on the ensuing drive, ending it off with a touchdown run to make it 23-20 with 6:55 left in the game.

Arnold and the Chiefs then bled out the clock, holding the ball for over four minutes before Trey Sermon broke for a 21-yard touchdown on 3rd and 16.

It's hard to take a moral victory when you were a win away from potentially being right in the thick of things, especially when you fall against a team that was starting a rookie quarterback in short notice.

However, there were plenty of positives to take from the Chargers week seven loss against the Kansas City Chiefs as Tyreke Hill was limited to just one catch and Derwin James looked good in his return and the Chargers might have found themselves a true left tackle as Colton McKivitz held his own against Jaelan Phillips.
