Redemption.
Anthony Atogwe promised the Chanticleers defense would atone for last seasons Fiesta Bowl let down. 8 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a safety later, Double A delivered on that guarantee.

Athens, GA. -It may only be Week 3 of the 2032 season, but everyone around college football understood what this one meant in Conway. Coastal Carolina’s 47–3 dismantling of Georgia wasn’t just another early-season victory — it was personal. The Bulldogs had eliminated the Chanticleers from the College Football Playoff in both 2029 and 2031.
“You never want to put too much emphasis on a regular-season game — they’re all important,” head coach Kade Vaughn said after the win. “But yeah. This one meant more.”
Coastal’s intent was obvious from the start. The Chanticleers opened the afternoon with a 16-play, 81-yard drive that chewed up nearly seven minutes of clock before quarterback Fredrick Meredith powered across the goal line on fourth-and-two.
“You think these guys wanted to get on the board first?” joked Kirk Herbstreit from the broadcast booth as Sanford Stadium fell quiet.
From there, it was all teal.
Georgia’s freshman quarterback Jabari Egbule looked every bit his age, overwhelmed by a Coastal defense that suffocated him from the opening snap. The Chanticleers racked up eight sacks, forced a fumble recovered in the end zone for a safety, and left the young signal-caller limping by game’s end.
Meanwhile, senior cornerback Mike Momah relished his individual matchup with Georgia wideout Dalvin Childers — the same receiver who caught the game-winning touchdown against Coastal in last year’s Fiesta Bowl.
The tone was set early when Momah broke up the first pass thrown Childers’ way, punctuating the hit with, “You in the gulag now, boy.”
Childers managed four catches for 57 yards on the day — but just one of those, a 12-yarder, came against Momah in man coverage.
Without their go-to target producing consistently, Georgia’s offense sputtered — compounded by curious play-calling from Kirby Smart’s staff.
“This might be the first time I’ve seen Kirby Smart this outcoached,” marveled Herbstreit. “I get that Coastal has a great rushing defense, but only four total rushes in the entire game? They’re just lining up and teeing off on Egbule at this point.”
Smart didn’t shy away from that criticism afterward. “You can’t run into a brick wall and expect to go through it,” he said, referencing Coastal’s dominant front seven. “We wanted to challenge their secondary. It didn’t work.”
For the Chanticleers, the victory was both cathartic and critical — a redemptive moment for a program eyeing another playoff run. But even in triumph, old frustrations resurfaced. Coastal was flagged nine times for holding, continuing an issue that has lingered since last year’s Fiesta Bowl loss.
Each time a yellow flag flew in the vicinity of the offensive line, the broadcast cameras seemed to find Vaughn on the sideline — arms folded, jaw tight.
When asked if he felt officials were “sending a message,” Vaughn stayed composed: “I stand by my previous statements, and that’s all I’m going to say on the matter.”
As for Meredith, the sophomore quarterback finally found his own measure of redemption after a disastrous Fiesta Bowl (two pick-sixes) and a three-interception outing last week at Virginia Tech.
“I think I’ve watched that Georgia tape more than I watched SpongeBob as a kid,” Meredith joked. “I knew everything they were doing before they even set up. I was reading their mail while they were still pulling in the driveway.”
Meredith finished 28-of-36 for 251 yards and two touchdowns through the air, adding 66 yards and three more scores on the ground — a near-flawless performance against one of the sport’s perennial giants.
Still, Vaughn was quick to pivot the focus forward. Coastal’s schedule offers no rest: a home ACC date with Pittsburgh, followed by consecutive road trips to No. 8 Florida and No. 4 Miami, then a home clash with in-state rival Clemson.
“It’s a nice win, an emotional one for us,” Vaughn said. “Especially being against these guys and my return from suspension. But now it’s back to the grind. We can’t get caught up in this. If we celebrate a Week 3 win like it’s a championship, we’ll miss the playoffs — and then this won’t mean anything.”
Meredith seemed a step ahead of Georgia all afternoon with checkdowns and timely scrambles, refusing to let even the multitude of holding penalties stall the Chants.
Double A doing #34 proud with another impressive performance.
Up 14-0, this 30 yard touchdown strike to Bernie Bender felt like the early killshot as the Bulldogs fell into a 21-0 hole.
