Anthony's Injury Adds To Slow Start Woes For Boston

Boston, MA. - After a 2/2 start for Roman Anthony in the Red Sox series opening win against the San Francisco Giants, he left the game after 2B Tyler Fitzgerald came down awkwardly on Anthony's lower leg.

The news out of Boston was their worst fear, a broken shin. Anthony is going to be on the shelf for the next two, possibly three months.

The good news for Boston? They have the depth with both Victor Robles and Kyle Schwarber, but as manager Alex Cora said after the news broke, replacing Anthony isn't that simple.

"He's a five tool player, so his absence is going to be missed," stated Cora, "We've got a bunch of good guys in this club house, but replacing Roman isn't on one person. Collectively, we've all got to step up a little more."

It's been far from an ideal start for the Red Sox after the surge to the World Series last year. Reigning MVP Garrett Crochet looks like a shell of his former self, with a 8.10 ERA and an 0-2 record to start the season. George Kirby's first start wasn't much better, getting shelled for seven runs in less than two innings.

Additionally, Boston's offense has been more streaky than deadly to open the season. Despite key acquisitions like Bo Bichette, Pete Alonso, and Yordan Alvarez; there are only three Red Sox hitting above .250 on the season.

And one of them just hit the injured list.

Boston will look to rebound on their upcoming road trip to Milwaukee and Cleveland.
