College Football Playoffs: Round 1 Review
ESPN Writer

10 44

Player of the Game: QB Ify Cashman - 25/46, 409 passing yards, 4 touchdowns, 16 carries, 52 rushing yards

Summary
Pittsburgh, backed by Heisman candidate quarterback Ify Cashman, makes light work of the California Golden Bears thanks to 409 yards through the air and four touchdowns from the redshirt freshman. The two teams dueled to a 3-3 standstill through the first quarterback before the Panthers opened the offense right up with 17 points in the second quarter. A touchdown from the Golden Bears in the second quarter would be the last of their points scored while the Panthers put up three more touchdowns to open the second half. Running back Jay Griggs ran for 6.1 yards per carry, totaling to 121 on the ground and a score himself as the Doak Trophy winner continues to run rampant.

Wide receiver Donte Trahan continues his impressive season with 130 receiving yards and two touchdowns while cornerbacks Steve Ottis and Randall Speed both picked off Cal quarterback Keilan Faulk. Pittsburgh will move on to take on #4 Arizona State in the quarterfinal.

35 38

Player of the Game: WR Nate Mapu - 4 catches, 49 receiving yards, 2 touchdowns (game-winning touchdown)

Summary
Penn State and Oklahoma fought to an absolute standstill, with the Sooners coming back with 21 points in the second half and a last-minute tough score from quarterback Nick Lopes linking up with wide receiver Nate Mapu on a corner route that the Nittany Lions did not have the time to match up with. Lopes threw two costly interceptions for the Sooners, but still managed 359 passing yards while the offensive line kept it clean, only allowing one sack the whole game. Meanwhile, Nittany Lions quarterback, redshirt freshman Tony O'Malley, was sacked three times but fought valiantly with 199 passing yards. Running back Jeremy Traore was the number one threat from the Penn State offense with 121 rushing yards on 12 carries. Second and third string running backs Tiowai Hayes and Kerry Durante combined for three touchdowns on the ground.

The Sooners will move on and take on the number one team in the nation, taking on the SMU Mustangs.

27 52

Player of the Game: HB Niles Redwine - 15 carries, 119 rushing yards, 4 touchdowns

Summary
The Florida Gators battled as much as they could, but a slow start has them bailing out early to the Indiana Hoosiers. The Hoosiers entered the second half up 24-6 thanks to a dynamic effort from from superstar quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele, who threw 289 passing yards and three through the air while running back Niles Redwine dominated on the ground to the tune of 15 carries for 119 rushing yards and an incredible four scores.

Florida scored 21 points in the second half, but their defense was incapable of stopping a cold, as the Hoosiers continued to pile it up with four touchdowns in the second half. The Hoosiers will continue their ride, taking on the ##3 Ohio State Buckeyes in the quarterfinals.

7 49

Player of the Game: WR Larry Hollis - 8 catches, 146 receiving yards, 3 touchdowns

Summary
The USC Trojans spared no man during their beatdown of the Oregon Ducks, dominating them by never needing to punt the ball or limit themselves to a field goal, scoring seven touchdowns on the way to a 49-7 win. Ducks quarterback Deuce Knight, in his final collegiate football game, stunk it up with a meager 171 passing yards and two interceptions. Running back Cole Crowell scored the lone touchdown for the Ducks while only accumulating 38 rushing yards himself. Meanwhile, USC quarterback Matthew Leo-Ioane, threw four touchdowns and picked up another one on the ground while running back Joe Pappoe picked up 94 rushing yards and two scores.

The Trojans will be moving on, preparing for a blueblood deal against #2 Alabama in the next round.

We've been getting by the run more recently than ever before. This game will certainly be won in the trenches. Wouldn't mind Pitt Rd 3 in the next round.
