Game Summary
In a game that felt destined for greatness, number 6 Clemson delivered the final, decisive blow. The Tigers outlasted the number one team in the nation, SMU, 41-34 in the 2030 National Championship, capitalizing on a late mistake to secure the title in a back-and-forth thriller that lived up to its billing as a clash of heavyweights.
In the first half, SMU and Clemson traded punches like two teams unwilling to blink. But, with the game hanging in the balance, it was a single miscue that changed everything.
Star quarterback Alonzo Cheeseman misread a route from wide receiver Eric DeLuca, throwing into coverage where Clemson cornerback Josh Ferrell stepped in front of the pass. Ferrell didn't just secure the interception - he took it back for a touchdown, swinging momentum permanently in Clemson's favor.
In a game defined by a elite quarterback play, it was the one mistake SMU couldn't overcome.
Clemson's offense proved too much for a Mustangs defense that had dominated most of the season but struggled to contain the Tigers' aerial attack.
Quarterback Ben Baity was composed and relentless, repeatedly finding his top target, wide receiver Randall Dingle, who delivered a historic performance. Dingle torched the SMU secondary for nearly 300 receiving yards and four touchdowns, consistently winning deep and turning routine plays into explosive gains.
Despite the loss, SMU showed why it entered the game as the favorite. Cheeseman and the Mustangs offense matched Clemson score-for-score for much of the night, continuing the form that carried them through the playoff - including their dominant showing against Oregon in the previous round.
For SMU, the loss marks a painful end to what had been another championship-caliber season.
Clemson made the play that mattered most - and in doing so, turned a classic into a championship.

Skyler Williams would never.
Delayed, not denied.
Skyler FC, we won in the end.

I'm hoping Skyler Williams had a luxurious school playing at Utah State School for the Death & Blind, cause that's where his ass oughta be

SMU Backs Nico Augustine Amid Rumors, Commits to Stability Moving Forward
By Cheryl Smith
DALLAS – Despite weeks of speculation, the message from SMU leadership is clear: nothing has changed at the top.
The SMU Mustangs football program fully expect head coach Nico Augustine to remain with the program moving forward, pushing back on widespread reports of a growing "rift" between Augustine and the university's administration.
These rumors gained traction as Augustine emerged as a leading candidate for the Texas Longhorns head coaching job - a position that ultimately went to Kenny Dillingham.
SMU Director of Athletics Damon Evans addressed the situation directly, offering a strong endorsement of Augustine and dismissing reports of internal tension.
"We have full trust and belief in Coach Augustine to lead this program into the SEC and continue building a national powerhouse. A lot of what's been reported is simply noise. That's the media trying to create something that isn't there."
Evans' comments represent the most definitive stance from the university to date, reinforcing that SMU intends to maintain continuity as it prepares for its transition from the ACC to the SEC.
Augustine himself has remained largely quiet in the aftermath of SMU's National Championship loss to Clemson, offering only a brief and somewhat cryptic comment when asked about his future.
"I'm the head coach of SMU until I'm not. That's all I have to say on that."
The remark did little to quiet speculation at the time, but with Texas now off the table, the likelihood of an immediate departure appears to have diminished significantly.
The timing of the reassurance is critical. SMU is entering a transitional off-season following its near-title run, with key figures - including quarterback Alonzo Cheeseman and linebacker Keke Madden - expected to move on to the next level. At the same time, the program continues to navigate the backdrop of an ongoing NCAA investigation and a reshaped coaching staff.
Maintaining stability at head coach could prove vital as the Mustangs attempt to sustain their place among college football's elite.

'It’s hard to see myself ever leaving [school] right now.'
Which one is Nico and which one is another coach who left his team in the dark
