Titans capture their first Lombardi Trophy in epic Super Bowl showdown against Niners
Super Bowl LXIII ended just how it began on a Brock Purdy interception as Jermaine Matthews Jr's interception gave the Tennessee Titans their first Super Bowl in a 41-33 win against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in one of the more hectic Super Bowls in recent history.

It didn't take long for fans in attendance at Raymond James Stadium to realize they were in for an all-timer with Purdy being intercepted on the second play of the game by rookie Darnell Brazill, which was returned to the eight yard line. Two plays later, the second turnover of the game would already occur with Mark Fletcher fumbling the ball on the two-yard on a hit by Bryan Cook, which was recovered by Ji'Ayir Brown.

The Titans would eventually capture the lead and take control of the first half, thanks to a 19-yard completion to Justin Jefferson on third and fourteen which resulted in a touchdown run by Jam Miller and after the Niners kicked two field goals, Jefferson would break away for a 72-yard touchdown to take a 17-6 lead with less than a minute left in the first half.

And then madness returned.

Purdy had three straight completions of over ten yards to get the 49ers into the red zone where they had the ball on the nineteen yard line with no timeouts left. Tennessee gambled in an effort to get after Purdy and force the 49ers to potentially leave with no points on a sack but instead he found Ricky Pearsall wide open for the touchdown to make it 17-13.

On the ensuing kickoff, running back Mike Wiggins, who was only in on kickoff due to an injury to regular returner Deion Burks earlier in the game, would fumble and it would once again be picked up by Brown, who returned it for a touchdown for the 20-17 lead.

Wiggins would be replaced by Chimere Dike, whose 29-yard return would give Tennessee a chance to perhaps tie the game before the half with a field goal after a completion to tight end Chigoziem Okonkwo near the fifty-yard line but Fred Warner would dislodge the ball free and it would be recovered by Nick Martin for the third fumble of the night, which led to another field goal with six seconds left in the half.

The madness wasn't over.

On the final play of the half, Ward would launch it from his own 35-yard line into the endzone where Jefferson converted the Hail Mary to retake the lead heading into the half.

The game would once again settle early in the second half with the Titans regaining control, extending their lead to fifteen points after an eight play drive spurred by their running game to begin the half and then another long run by Fletcher set up Jefferson's third touchdown of the night to close out the third quarter.

Tennessee was seemingly on its way to clinching its first Super Bowl victory after Purdy failed to convert a fourth and eleven from the Titans 46-yard line with seven minutes left but on the very next play, the Titans would fumble for the fourth time, this on a Jam Miller carry that was recovered by Darren Geathers. Seven plays later, Purdy converted a third and seven with a touchdown pass to Pearsall to make it a one possession game after an earlier field goal.

San Francisco and Purdy would get the ball back with 2:43 left, trailing 38-33 but with the ball on the three-yard line where they would go backwards on their first two plays, narrowly escaping a safety. With the game on the line, Purdy would find Pearsall once more for a gain of 28 to get out of the shadow of the goal post with two minutes left in the game.

The 49ers would make a strange decision to run the ball, which they had struggled to do so with success throughout the game and this was no different, with Jordan James being tackled in the backfield. They made up some yardage with a ten-yard completion to Christian Watson but on the next play, an unlikely hero in Gabe Harris Jr, a seventh round pick two years ago, would record a sack to force a fourth and eleven where the 49ers, despite having timeout, decided to rush to the line where Purdy failed to spot that Matthews Jr. had come off his receiver and beat rookie tight end Linkon Cure to the ball, who had beaten his primary defender.

The Titans would opt to take three knees and kick a field goal, bringing the clock down to three seconds following the kickoff. Purdy's Hail Mary would be ten yards short of the endzone and batted down by several Titans.
