Saturday, November 22, 2030 | Gerald J. Ford Stadium (Dallas, TX)

Week 13 Preview: vs #4 Oklahoma (9-1, 5-1)

Synopsis
It seems like the worst time possible for SMU to be fighting for their lives and needing a key victory to jump back into the College Football Playoff picture. The only benefit of losing against Stanford last weekend was the fact that it was a non-conference game and the Mustangs are still firmly entrenched in an SEC championship berth regardless of the results of this game.

The Sooners are entering this as one of SMU's greatest opponents on their schedule; a game that has been circled on SMU's titan-riddled schedule all season long. They have a dominant offense, a defense that makes mistakes that are far and few between highlighted with a pass rush that leaves no prisoners. The only drawback is losing their starting quarterback Larry Tialavea to a devastating tailbone injury that will make him miss the rest of the season. Oklahoma has gotten some good play from their backup, Iosefa Roos, but it certainly breathes life into SMU's opportunity to get back to their dominant play.

Keep in mind, the Mustangs are not walking into this game healthy either, still missing tight end Bobby Goodspeed or running back Dwayne Sowells with long-term injuries while they will also miss all-star offensive guard Joaquin Paredes with a broken thumb. If the Mustangs carry depth anywhere, its on their offensive line, with Teryan Brisby - their Swiss Army knife offensive line - expected to be plugged into the starting lineup.

Regardless of Oklahoma's situation at quarterback, the Sooners smell blood in the water and they are expected to give SMU a complete run for their money.

Definitely can't. It was extremely unfortunate timing to drop an upset loss since Oklahoma is a tough opponent on paper. This year's SMU team has felt very off but we've still managed to rack up the wins regardless. Gotta finish strong.

I mean, a win is a win. The defense looked legit, but the offense is struggling
