‣ Huskies select offensive tackle Myers in third round

The Toronto Huskies selected Ohio State offensive tackle Josh Myers with the 65th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

The Rimington Award winner was expected to be a day one selection with some predicting he might jump into the first round but surely be gone by the end of the second. He wasn't and the Huskies snagged him up.

Myers played all along the offensive line at Ohio State, even finishing the 2020 season at left tackle where some predict Myers to play at in the NFL.

‣ Huskies go defense with fourth selection in linebacker Garrison

The Toronto Huskies selected Notre Dame linebacker Nolan Garrison with the 81st pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

At six-foot-four and 250 pounds, Garrison is a versatile edge player that recently hired defensive coordinator Brendan Daly will have a field day with. Daly is a former assistant of Bill Belichick who loves versatile defenders such as Garrison who both rushed the passer at Notre Dame while also playing some inside linebacker and as an over linebacker.

‣ Huskies focus on their defense in last rounds of the draft

The Toronto Huskies wrapped up their first ever draft with the drafting of safety Jeremy Saxton (LSU) in the fourth round, safety Dwayne Woodard (Yale) in the fifth round, linebacker Perry Nicholas (Middle Tennessee State) in the sixth round and cornerback Deon McDonald in the seventh round.

Nicholas had some first-round pick buzz before a video showing him getting in a shouting match with his ex-girlfriend surfaced just two weeks before the draft. His ex-girlfriend had accused him of physically her but her report was later recanted and no charges were pressed.

The team also signed the following UDFAS: FB Dominique Drew (TENN), T Connor Boyle (ARK), DT Mike McCarthy (MICH), DT Kendrick Weldon (WMU), LB Josh Harrison (PRIN), LB Imani Garden (UCF).

Brown gets invitation to camp along with other veterans

After months and months of reports regarding Antonio Brown and the Toronto Huskies, including one earlier in the year with Brown meeting Huskies owner Anthony Porter personally, Brown was invited to training camp.

Brown will join quarterbacks Robert Griffin III, Matt Barkley, and tight ends Lee Smith and Lance Kendricks as veterans that have been signed to non-guaranteed contracts and will join the team.

Despite being cleared by the NFL of sexual assault allegations back in 2020, Brown did not play for an NFL team. According to a source close to Brown, he sees this as his 'last chance' to be in the NFL and a roster spot is 'far from guaranteed'.

Huskies run out of time as Barkley's final drive ends at 32-yard line

Robert Griffin III provided Washington Redskins fans with one of their few bright spots over the last decade during his magical rookie season. It was only fitting that Griffin would be leading the Toronto Huskies to their first ever win as a franchise only to be sidelined with an injury.

The Huskies comeback attempts fell short as Matt Barkley replaced an injured Griffin and was sacked on the final play of the game as the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Huskies 28-24.

Toronto found itself trailing 21-0 due to a poor performance from their secondary which let both Dwayne Haskins Jr. and D'Eriq King slice them up. King finished with 182 yards and a touchdown while Haskins had 130 yards and a touchdown with just one completion.

For first overall pick Trevor Lawrence, it was a quiet day as he played just two drives, completing 6 of 12 passes for 51 yards.

It wasn't a quiet day for Antonio Brown, who didn't start but played extensively with the backups. Brown had eight catches for 113 yards and a touchdown against his former team.

LeMay, McCarthy and Saxton head to IR as three new bodies added to camp roster

The rookie seasons of defensive tackle Mike McCarthy and safety Jeremy Saxton were over before they even got started. The Huskies placed them both along with running back Benny Lemay on IR with McCarthy fractured his foot, Saxton breaking his thumb and Lemay tearing his bicep in the second week of camp.

Toronto signed running back Travis Homer, defensive tackle Brandin Bryant and safety Su'a Craven with all three expected to play in the preseason home opener against the Detroit Lions which will be played at the Rogers Centre.

Lawrence displays arm talent in win over Lions

If the country of Canada and the city of Toronto were unfamiliar with why Trevor Lawrence came in with so much hype, those questions were answered as Lawrence put on a show at the Rogers Centre.

The rookie quarterback threw for 253 yards and two touchdowns in just two quarters of football, his lone interception coming on a tipped ball in the 27-21 win win over the Detroit Lions.

Lawrence had impressive throws to second year tight end Brycen Hopkins (5 catches, 80 yards, touchdown) and fellow rookie receiver Rondale Moore (2 catches, 56 yards). The defense also improved from the opener against Pittsburgh, holding Matthew Stafford and the first team Detroit offense to fourteen points.

The Huskies did suffer casualties on defense however with DE Montez Sweat and safety Keanu Neal dislocating their elbow.
