Ruthless Aggression | A WWE 2K Universe

May 2003 | Week 3 | Kansas City, MO
Too Cool have been thorn in the side of the nWo these last two weeks, and Scott Hall sought to rectify that by challenging The Miz to a one on one match. Hall played some mind games at the beginning, offering a handshake in a faux show of respect to The Miz, but when Miz went to reciprocate, Hall pulled his hand back and mocked him. This pissed off Miz which is exactly what Hall wanted and he came at Hall wildly and out of control. That cost him as Hall dodged his running strike, and when Miz rebounded off the ropes, caught him and chokeslammed him. Hall then lifted The Miz up for the Outsider's Edge to put away one half of Too Cool in no time flat and earn a bit of redemption for the current World Tag Team Champions.

Edge was set for non-title action against Stone Cold Steve Austin, but his challenger for the World Heavyweight Title, Goldberg decided to come hang around in Austin's corner as his "manager" for the duration of the match. Goldberg never got physically involved, but just his presence was enough to throw off the Rated-R superstar and make him less cerebral than he normally was in the match. Unlike Edge's distraction last week, Goldberg's ended up proving to be very successful when Edge hit Austin with the Edgecution but took his eyes off him to go talk trash to Goldberg. When he finally did refocus, Austin was on him with a Lou Thesz Press and then a Stone Cold Stunner when the champ rose to his feet, allowing Austin to get the victory, much to Goldberg's delight.

Cena and Mansa started in what was basically a street fight, throwing fists at each other and using the environment to hurt each other as much as possible. Though Cena was US champion, Mansa had no intentions of simply rolling over and dying for him. The action spilled outside the ring and even into the crowd area just by the barricade, but after Mansa won that exchange they returned to the ring to beat the referee's 10-count. Mansa looked to knock Cena out with his Superkick but it was dodged by the champion, who then hit Mansa with a Spin-Out Powerbomb. Cena followed that up with his signature Five Knuckle Shuffle and F-U finisher to take out Mansa in a somewhat hardfought battle. THe referee went to bring Cena his US Title and while he handed it to him, Shinsuke Nakamura slid into the ring and stood behind the champion, ready to strike. When Cena turned though, Nakamura did the honorable thing and though he could've easily caught Cena by surprise, had yet another staredown with the champ. Mind games from Nakamura with just over a week to go until their clash at Money in the Bank for the US Championship.

Beth refused to acknowledge that Mickie James had beaten her in the triple threat match last week, and instead opted to challenge the other competitor in that match, Trish Stratus, to a fight. Like all the previous encounters between the two, Beth started off completely dominating, but Trish eventually got a moment of life when she countered the champion's Glam Slam. Trish was about to follow up when Mickie James' music started to play. She ran head on into the ring and attacked Trish with a Floating DDT, resulting in Beth being DQ'd. She then went after Beth Phoenix and hit the exact same move on her as well. James demanded a mic from the ref and spoke, "Hey Beth, you know I won last week, and I'm not interested in being ignored. So next week, here's what you're going to do. You're going to give me a shot one on one for that Women's Championship, and that is absolutely 100% non-negotiable."

The final match of the night, like the first, featured a matchup between halves of tag teams: Jeff Hardy from the Hardy Boyz and new signing Kofi Kingston who was accompanied by his tag partner, R-Truth. These two put on an absolute show. Hardy and Kingston both possessed very similar styles that mixed striking ability with acrobatics and high wire acts, and that was on full display. Both guys executed springboard moves from the apron, diving moves and leaping kicks, seemingly trying to one up each other. The crowd was hot and very into it. Jeff looked to seize control when he hit Kofi with the Twist of Fate, but when he went for the Swanton Bomb, Kingston rolled out of the way. Kofi then hit Jeff with a series of chops and his signature move, The Boom Drop. He started clapping it up, urging Jeff to stand as he went for the Trouble in Paradise spinning kick to put the match away but Hardy dodged it. Hardy then hit Kofi with another Twist of Fate and climbed the top rope to deliver the Swanton Bomb. This one wouldn't miss and Jeff pinned Kingston to join King Booker and Dolph Ziggler as the third RAW is WAR entrant to the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. Post-match, Kofi and Jeff shook hands in a show of great sportsmanship as the show came to a close.

May 2003 | Week 3 | Mobile, AL
Before the match got started, Rey Mysterio jumped Daniel Bryan from behind. He struck him and then tossed the Cruiserweight Champion into the steel steps, badly injuring him before the referee could interfere. This was a major change in character for the usually fun-loving Mysterio, and it paid off. Bryan was hobbled for his match against Balor and it was over in a flash as Bryan took his first loss since becoming Cruiserweight Champion when Balor hit him with the 1916 and followed that up with a Coup de Grace from the top rope.

Brock Lesnar took on The Rock in a rematch of their contest from two weeks ago. However, it would not be for the vacant WWE Championship this time around. Brock was taking The Rock to task from the jump, as The Rock seemed to have somewhat lost a step over the last year or so. His movie career has become increasingly more of a priority over his in-ring one, and it's started to show. Lesnar hit Rock with a massive Belly to Belly Suplex and prepared to finish him off with an F-5 when Kurt Angle's music started blaring from the speakers. Angle was nowhere to be seen, but the distraction was enough for The Rock to recover and catch an unsuspecting Lesnar with a Rock Bottom to pin him for the win. Kurt came out after the bell had rung laughing and happy he'd been able to get revenge on Lesnar for costing him his match against The Rock as well last week.

Competitors for the Intercontinental Championship at Money in the Bank, Jericho and Lashley, were forced by Stephanie McMahon to team up to give the Dudleyz (who had been eliminated recently from the WWE Tag Team Championship tournament) a tune up match. Lashley and Jericho as expected never really got on the same page and it cost them. Lashley was dominating D-Von one on one, but when he whipped D-Von into the corner, Jericho stole a tag and inserted himself into the matchup. He then mocked Lashley telling him he was better than him at absolute everything. His lack of focus proved detrimental when D-Von took advantage and whipped Jericho into the opposite corner. He then teamed up with Bubba to hit the 3-D on the Intercontinental Champion. Lashley made absolutely no effort to break up the pin as the Dudleyz pinned Jericho to pick up the victory.

The Usos came out hot here, looking to make a name for themselves and also upset one of the best tag teams in WWE history, D-Generation X. HHH and HBK were able to weather the early storm of high-flying theatrics from Jimmy and Jey though, and eventually turn it into more of a cerebral, grind-it-out kind of matchup that suited them better. The Usos ran into problems when Jey was consistently stopped from making it to his corner for the tag, preventing them from gaining any kind of momentum. Almost out of nowhere, HHH smashed Jey Uso with a Spinebuster and then connected with HBK for the Sweet Chin Music and Pedigree combination. Jimmy tried to rush the ring and break up the pin, but he was on the receiving end of a clothesline from Triple H as Shawn Michaels pinned Jey Uso to advance D-X to the tournament final at Money in the Bank. They will face the winner of American Alpha and the Brothers of Destruction's match next week.

With Apollo and AJ Styles already qualifying for two of Smackdown's four slots in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match, Randy Orton and Big Show were set to face off for the third spot. Orton came out rocking a new heavily tattooed look and moniker, The Viper. And he looked ready to bite from the moment the bell rang, overwhelming Big Show with his athleticism in a way very few men could. A DDT straight to the mat looked to put Big Show down for the count, but Orton got on the mat in a prone position and started hammering his fists into the ground, begging Big Show to get up. When he did, Orton went for the RKO, but Show pushed him away at the last moment. He then hit Orton with the Showstopper and followed that up with a massive chokeslam to take Orton out and pin him in what felt like an upset. Big Show claims the third Smackdown! spot in the Money in the Bank ladder match.
