WELCOME TO THE NBA: PART TWO

Final score: Denver- 130, Brooklyn- 154. It was a blow out, a one-way show in the second half. Nearly one hundred points scored and the Denver Nuggets had no remedy for that. All that was left to do was take the loss, their 12th straight loss, and seemingly no end in sight. With this kind of streak going, the "good game" gesture started to seem like a slight to the Nuggets, rightfully so, as they have been terrible to close out since the beginning.

"Hey, Kairos!"

Kairos stopped in his tracks to the tunnel for the voice calling out to him. Turning around, he realized it was Ivan Frost a few paces behind him.

"Hey. Congratulations on the win tonight."

"Thanks, but I should be thanking you for tonight. Hell of a game you made me work for."

"Seriously. You and your squad kicked our asses for 98 points in the second half. Pretty much tell that we weren't doing our best on defense."

"Maybe true, maybe not. End of the day, chips fall where they may. That doesn't mean you had a bad night so to speak."

"Okay, well, thank you, for what it's worth. I'll catch you next game."

Kairos departed the conversation, starting to make his way off the court until Ivan reached out to him once more.

"You're really just like your father." Ivan incited.

"Yeah, I get that a lot. What's next? You're going to tell me that I look just like him? Only taller? That the way I play is just like him?"

"What? Hell no!" Ivan laughed. "Your father was a triple-double machine. You're skills are ass compared to him."

"Run that by me again."

"Underneath your skin is a sore loser, that wants to run it back for a revenge game. I can see it in you, you're just like him."

"Nah man, you got me wrong-"

"Cut the crap, Kairos." Ivan retorted. "I've been watching you since your days at Rice. Every bad game you have, the next two you dominate. Now you're on a twelve-game losing streak and nothing to show that you're trying to win. Where's that monster in you? You think you can waltz in the NBA and just win because of who your Dad was? Or did you think the NBA was college level easy?"

"Listen, I appreciate you're a fan of my basketball career, but whatever you and my Dad had, it's not with me."

"Oh, but it is with you. You are your father's son after all."

"Yeah, well, he had more than one."

"But I'm dealing with you." Ivan shot at Kairos. "And so is Tiny... What? You think I don't know? Yeah, you're the only kid signed to Tiny who got a free pass. He feed you that, "I pass, you shoot" nonsense, didn't he?"

Kairos began to feel exposed, feeling as all his confidentiality went out the window. Keeping a stone face, Kairos showed no effects to his words.

"All I'm saying is, show up next time. Get your ass in gear in this league and make a difference, or I'll expose you every chance I get. Not only will I make sure Tiny drop your ass, I'll make sure you'll next play for another real team, rookie... They should change your name from Kairos Black to Kwame Brown, but at least he got drafted..."

With those final words, Ivan took his leave, leaving Kairos with a lot to digest. Sadly, everything Ivan said was true. With all this losing, Kairos quickly adjusted his pace and became complacent. If the Nuggets wasn't going to win, why try, right? But even so, Kairos knew this wasn't the way. Things were going to have to change, soon...
