Match #1: Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero vs. John Cena | Triple Threat | Money in the Bank :threestar:
Eddie and Cena seemed intent on crowning a new MITB holder (one of themselves) in this match as they spent a large part of it working together, double teaming Edge to keep him out of things. Eddie and Cena then turned their attentions to each other with Eddie's high flying style contrasting with Cena's street brawler approach. Cena started to gain the upper hand in the matchup, but then Edge slid back into the ring and hit him with a Spear but Cena rolled out of the ring before he could cover him. A relatively fresh Edge then faced off with a spent Eddie Guerrero and he was winning the matchup with him. He dodged a springboard kick from Eddie then hit him with the Edgecution and then a Spear and looked well on his way to a win, but Cena got back in the ring, tossed Edge out and covered Eddie to steal the win and become the new Mr. Money in the Bank.

Match #2: The Hurricane vs. Umaga | Extreme Rules | United States Championship :fourstar:
The Hurricane was getting absolutely brutalized by Umaga early on in this matchup as the Samoan's size and strength were simply too much for him. But we saw a different side of Hurricane take over to get him back into the contest. He went for a steel chair and unloaded on Umaga with it, evening the odds with a weapon and showing himself to be a bit more anti-hero than just pure superhero with his tactics. Umaga wasn't done though and got his own equalizer, a kendo stick, to return some vicious shots to Hurricane in kind. The action spilled back into the ring and Hurricane was able to hit Umaga with his Slingshot Lariat finisher but that was only good for a three count. Umaga later tossed him back outside and set up a table and lit it on fire. They brawled elsewhere for a while, but then Umaga started dragging Hurricane towards the table looking to end the match and possibly his career as well. He lifted Hurricane up for a Samoan Drop but at the last second the United States Champion slipped out and managed to kick Umaga into and through the burning table, seriously damaging him. Hurricane rolled Umaga back into the ring and hit a second Slingshot Lariat on a wounded Umaga to win the match and retain his United States Championship.

Match #3: Scott Steiner vs. Randy Orton | One on One | Intercontinental Championship :twostar:
Scott Steiner made his debut in singles competition with this match against Randy Orton and boy oh boy did he deliver. He didn't look out of place at all without his brother RIck and put on an absolutely dominating performance against the Intercontinental Champion Orton. He ended things relatively quickly with a devastating Frankensteiner off the top turnbuckle to knock Randy's lights out and win the Intercontinental Championship.

Main Event: Brock Lesnar vs. Batista | One on One | Undisputed Championship :fourhalfstar:
In an awe-inspiring collision of two wrestling behemoths, Brock Lesnar emerged victorious over Batista to claim the WWE Championship in a match that will be etched in sports entertainment history. The clash was a masterclass in power and tenacity, as both titans left no stone unturned in their quest for supremacy. From the very outset, the arena was electrified with anticipation as Lesnar and Batista locked eyes, exuding an aura of sheer dominance. The early moments of the contest saw Batista leveraging his immense strength to control the pace, overpowering Lesnar with thunderous slams and bone-rattling spinebusters. However, Lesnar, fueled by an unrelenting desire to wear the coveted gold around his waist, showcased his resilience. In a spine-tingling moment, he countered Batista's Batista Bomb into a gravity-defying F-5, sending shockwaves through the audience. As the match reached its crescendo, the audience witnessed a display of raw power and determination that will be etched in their memory. In a stunning turn of events, Lesnar delivered not one, not two, but three successive F-5s to finally bring the seemingly invincible Batista to his knees. The arena erupted in a deafening roar as the referee's hand slapped the canvas for the final time, declaring Lesnar the new WWE Undisputed Champion. The battle had been an embodiment of wrestling's essence – a clash of giants, an exhibition of strength, and a showcase of unyielding spirit. As the confetti rained down and Lesnar hoisted the championship aloft, the WWE Universe bore witness to a moment of triumph that will forever resonate as a testament to the intensity and grandeur of professional wrestling.

Match #1: Faarooq vs. The Rock | One on One :threestar:
Faarooq and The Rock have history from their days fighting over leadership of the Nation of Domination and it showed before this match got started. They got into a war of words that ended with Faarooq trying to get a cheap shot clothesline in on Rock but knocking out the ref instead. This led to the two brawling at the beginning of the match with Faarooq gaining the upper hand through nefarious tactics. When the ref was able to officiate things again, however, momentum started to swing back in The Rock's direction. He hit Faarooq with a spinebuster but the Tag Team Champ smartly rolled out of the ring before The Rock could go for a People's Elbow. Later, Faarooq was able to turn the tables and get The Rock positioned for a Dominator, but The Rock countered it into a devastating Rock Bottom. He followed that up with a People's Elbow to put Faarooq down for the three count and pick up a great win to open up Monday Night RAW.

Match #2: Scott Steiner vs. Umaga | One on One :twohalfstar:
Scott Steiner was red hot with the crowd coming off an impressively dominating win over the Intercontinental Champion, Randy Orton at The Great American Bash to claim the title for himself. He faced a tough test in Umaga, but in similarly dominating fashion he was able to beat the Samoan monster as well with his trademark Frankensteiner finisher. Following the match Steiner celebrated, lifting up the IC title to the cheers of the WWE Universe when Shelton Benjamin, sporting a new all gold look, slid into the ring and clubbed him from behind. Benjamin then picked up Steiner's title and when the champ rose to his feet, blasted him across the face with the belt before raising it high above his head as he stood over the prone champion.

Match #3: Batista vs. Booker T vs. Hollywood Hogan vs. Kurt Angle vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Rob Van Dam | Battle Royal :twohalfstar:
Six superstars were set to face off in a battle royal to determine the new #1 contender for the recently crowned Brock Lesnar's Undisputed Championship. Hogan got eliminated surprisingly quickly after a superkick from Rob Van Dam sent him flying over the top rope in frustration. There were no eliminations for a while after that as the superstars wrestled in various matchups in the ring, but eventually Booker T eliminated Stone Cold in a very similar way to how RVD had sent Hogan out, with a powerful kick. He celebrated that at his own expense though as a wily Batista quickly came and dumped him over the top. Batista, too, fell victim to his own arrogance though as Rob Van Dam came from behind and threw him out as well leaving just RVD and Kurt Angle left in the matchup. Angle had been losing a lot of his one on one matchups earlier in the contest and was very worn down already. RVD eventually hit him with a Frog Splash before dumping him over the top rope to become the new #1 contender for Brock Lesnar's title.

Match #4: Chyna vs. Trish Stratus | One on One :onestar:
Chyna has been extremely dominant during her time in WWE, so Trish Stratus tried a new tactic to try to gain the advantage on her. She took the action outside of the ring and tried to use any of the environment: the barricades, the steps, the ring post to her advantage. It worked for a time but eventually Chyna regained control. The two were close to being counted out and Chyna blasted Trish with a big forearm before hitting her with a DDT and hustling back into the ring. Trish got counted out while she was down as Chyna picked up a win.

Main Event: Hurricane vs. Kane l One on One :fourstar:
The Hurricane has been on an absolute roll since becoming United States Champion, and looked to continue that against Kane in this match. It looked like his dream run was going to come to an end as the Big Red Machine was simply too much for him physically early in the contest, ragdolling him all over the ring and doing whatever he wanted. It wasn't until Hurricane started to use his aerial prowess that he started to gain a bit of a foothold in the contest. Hurricane managed to counter a big boot from Kane into the Eye of the Storm and put Kane down for a two count, but not long after that Kane Chokeslammed him and it looked like the match was over. One, two... KICK OUT. Hurricane showed tremendous resilience to kick out of the Chokeslam and it left Kane dumbfounded, which worked to the US Champ's advantage. Kane waited too long to continue the assault and by the time he had, Hurricane had too much time to recover. He got up and hit Kane with another Eye of the Storm, then went to the ring apron to hit the Slingshot Lariat on the Big Red Machine, nearly taking his head off before pinning him for the victory. Hurricane's celebrations were cut short though when the lights went out. When they came back on, The Boogeyman was standing face to face with Hurricane in the ring and he hoisted him up high before chokeslamming him to close out Monday Night RAW.

Women's Division Scrapped after Poor Run of Ratings

Image

By Kazeem Famuyide

HARTFORD, CT --- The WWE's Women's Division is officially no more. After a series of poorly rated matches, capped off by a 1-star rating in a bout between arguably the two biggest female draws in the company in Trish and Chyna, Vince McMahon and co. have deemed that there is no need for the division going forwards. Lita will remain on in her role as Edge's valet, but the rest of the division: Beth Phoenix, Molly Holly, Stacy Keibler, Trish Stratus and women's champion, Chyna, have been fired effective immediately. This marks a sad day for the future of women's wrestling, but it seems they have struggled to resonate with the WWE audience and the company will give a greater focus to its male superstars to continue to expand as a global brand.

Hardcore Championship Reinstated

Image
ESPN.com
The Associated Press
By Kazeem Famuyide

HARTFORD, CT --- With the Women's Division removed, WWE had to come up with a new idea to fill up a time slot on Monday Nights. Enter, or rather re-enter the Hardcore Championship. The last person to hold this title was Shane McMahon, who won it at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view earlier this year before vacating and retiring the title when he left the company. Back then there was a clearly defined Hardcore division with superstars dedicated to engaging in dangerous, extreme rules action on a weekly basis. WWE has different intentions for the belt this time around that are more true to its original roots in the company. There will be no Hardcore division, rather, any superstar in the company regardless of division or status on the card will be eligible to compete for the title in a litany of different match types. The title will be officially reinstated and a new champion awarded on the next episode of RAW where Stone Cold Steve Austin, Rey Mysterio, Eddie Guerrero and Edge have been selected by Vince McMahon to compete in a Fatal 4-Way Falls Count Anywhere match for the belt.

Match #1: Shelton Benjamin vs. Umaga | One on One :threestar:
It was Shelton Benjamin's turn to face Umaga after attacking Scott Steiner in the IC Champ's match against Umaga last week. And Steiner hadn't exactly forgotten about that attack. During Shelton's entrance he attacked him from behind and pounded away at him on the outside before rolling him into the ring to start his match heavily weakened. Shelton was getting his ass kicked by Umaga, but used his cunning to stay in the matchup. He purposefully took the action to the outside, whipping Umaga into the barricade and then hitting Umaga with a T-Bone Suplex and Paydirt on the outside leaving him unable to get up before he was counted out to steal a victory. After the match, Scott Steiner came back out to taunt Benjamin and tempers flared. The two superstars traded punches on the stage before they were broken up by security.

Match #2: Boogeyman vs. Scott Hall | One on One :threehalfstar:
Boogeyman and Scott Hall were engaged in a vicious contest, and it looked like Scott Hall was actually about to get the win when he lifted Boogeyman up into the Outsider's Edge. But again Boogeyman made the lights go out like he'd done previously and when they came back on he appeared behind Hall and hit him with the Boogeybomb to get the three count. After the match, The Hurricane came down to the ring and stood face to face with Boogeyman raising the United States Championship in the air, "I'm tired of your villainous tricks, Boogey. I'm going to put this title on the line against you at Summerslam and put an end to you once and for all."

Match #3: nWo vs. The APA | Tag Team :fourstar:
The APA were set to have a match against nWo, that if the nWo won, they would get a guaranteed shot at the World Tag Team Championships at Summerslam. But when Kevin nash and Syxx were on their way out to the irng, The Rock and Cactus Jack jumped them from behind and tossed them to the side. The Rock then grabbed the mic and said, "The Rock says, I already beat you last week ya jabroni, yeah you Faarooq. So tell you what, The People's Champ and The Sock over here are gonna come down to the ring and lay the smackdown on you right now, then beat you for those titles at Summerslam." The match got underway and The Rock did exactly what he said he was going to do to Faarooq before tagging in Cactus Jack. Rock hit a Rock Bottom on Faarooq to let Cactus go for the pin and then spinebustered JBL who tried to break it up as they secured the #1 contender spots for the tag team titles.
► Show Spoiler
Match #4: Eddie Guerrero vs. Stone Cold vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Edge | Fatal 4-Way Falls Count Anywhere | Hardcore Championship :fivestar:
This one was an all out war. All four of these superstars are former singles superstars in the WWE, but none of them have ever won the Hardcore Championship so there was a serious accolade on the line to add to their resumes. Everyone used weapons, everyone got off their finishers, but for a long time nobody was able to get the win as you needed to have the other 3 superstars all out of commission to go for a clean pin. At one point Austin was close, fighting one on one with Eddie Guerrero in the ring. He countered the Three Amigos from Guerrero into a Stunner, but just before he could go for the cover, Edge slid into the ring and speared Austin to put him down for three and become the new Hardcore Champion.

Main Event: Rob Van Dam vs. Booker T l One on One :threestar:
Rob Van Dam defeated Booker T in the main event to continue his momentum after winning the battle royal last week to become #1 contender for the Undisputed Championship. Following his win, the champ, Brock Lesnar came out to stand face to face with his challenger. He raised the title high above his head as the two competitors said nothing and stared each other down to close out the show.

Match #1: The Hurricane vs. Randy Orton | One on One :threestar:
The Boogeyman came out to ringside for The Hurricane's match against Orton, clearly intent on being a distraction to the United States Champion. Hurricane was on an absolute roll early on, getting the better of the former Intercontinental Champion, Orton, and looked well on his way to a win. He whipped Orton out of the ring, but then Boogeyman got out of his chair at ringside and started talking shit to him. Hurricane was temporarily distracted and Orton took advantage, slithering up behind Hurricane and hitting him with an RKO. He then tossed Hurricane's limp body back into the ring and pinned him, handing him his first loss since becoming United States Champion. This is not the momentum Hurricane was looking for heading into his Summerslam title defense.

Match #2: Triple H w/ Shelton Benjamin vs. Scott Steiner | One on One :fourstar:
Triple H was booked for a match with Scott Steiner, but before the match backstage Shelton Benjamin had a chat with The Game. Shawn Michaels was off for the night, so Benjamin asked if he could accompany HHH to the ring to learn from him before his match against Steiner at Summerslam. HHH obliged somewhat begrudgingly. Steiner was holding his own against Triple H, but Benjamin was providing multiple distractions from ringside as a manager that kept allowing The Game to gain an upper hand in the matchup. One of those eventually led to Steiner eating a Spinebuster and then a Pedigree as he lost the match to Triple H much to Benjamin's delight. Following his loss, Steiner was attacked by Shelton Benjamin, but then Triple H came running back to the ring and Pedigreed Shelton to prevent him from causing further damage to the champ unfairly.

Match #3: Rock 'n' Sock Connection vs. Kurt Angle & Batista | Tag Team :twostar:
The Rock 'n' Sock Connection faced a tough test, taking on two of the toughest singles competitors in the company in Angle and Batista. Rock and Mankind's chemistry has been growing week over week though and it showed in this matchup as they were able to take advantage of an Angle and Batista who really had no intention of getting on the same page. It was more like two men fighting a pair of individuals than a tag team contest. Batista was in the ring and got hit with a punch from socko by Mankind on the apron and then Rock Bottomed and Angle didn't really do anything to help his teammate as Rock 'n' Sock Connection picked up the victory. The two celebrated in the ring but were jumped from behind by the APA who laid waste to their challengers at Summerslam to get an edge going into their title match this Sunday.
► Show Spoiler
Match #4: Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Edge | Tables | Hardcore Championship :threehalfstar:
Edge pinned Stone Cold in the Fatal 4-Way for the Hardcore Championship last week and now this week had been challenged by the Rattlesnake to a tables rematch for the title. Austin was still nursing a pretty badly damaged abdomen from the match last week, particularly after the Spear from Edge that had put him down for the count. It showed. He was moving slower than normal and Edge was a step or two ahead of him for the majority of the contest. Austin never really got going in this one and eventually Edge was able to lean a table up against the ring apron and place a prone Austin against it before Spearing him again, this time through the table to retain the Hardcore Championship.

Main Event: Rob Van Dam vs. JBL l One on One :threehalfstar:
Faarooq was banned from ringside for this match between RVD and JBL after their attack on The Rock 'n' Sock Connection earlier in the night. Rob Van Dam still had his hands full with one half of the tag team champions though. He was able to get a lot of moves and combos off but not really able to keep JBL down for any extended period of time. Then JBL started to gain some momentum in the matchup, eventually hitting RVD with the Clothesline from Hell which the #1 Contender miraculously kicked out of. That sent JBL into a fit of rage that gave RVD time to recover. He hit JBL with a spinning kick, then a superkick to the face and climbed the top rope. He hit a diving crossbody to JBL as he stumbled to his feet, then did his trademark R-V-D pose to the crowd before climbing the top rope again and hitting the Five Star Frog Splash on JBL to defeat him. RVD didn't even get a chance to celebrate though as Brock Lesnar came running into the ring after the match and blasted him across the face with the Undisputed Championship. He then stood above his challenger at Summerslam with the title held high to close out the show.
