RENTON, Wash. - The Seahawks' final injury report prior to their game against the Washington Commanders was released earlier today, and as anticipated, quarterback Geno Smith is expected to start on Sunday.

The starting quarterback was sidelined with a knee injury for the final half of the 4th quarter last week against the Baltimore Ravens after taking a hit near the sidelines by edge rusher Jadaveon Clowney. Backup Drew Lock finished the game and led the team's game-winning drive. Smith was quick to tell reporters that he felt fine and that he expects to start against Washington. That expectation is scheduled to turn into reality this Sunday.

The Seahawks, however, have ruled out edge rusher Darrell Taylor for an undisclosed amount of time after he suffered a shoulder labrum tear in last week's victory. He has recorded 8 tackles and 2 sacks this season. Taylor's injury opens the door for 2nd-year pro Boye Mafe (9 tackles, 1 sack) and rookie Derick Hall (8 tackles, 0.5 sack).

In other news, running back Kenneth Walker III (ribs) is on track to return in approximately 3 weeks when the Seahawks face the Dallas Cowboys.

SEATTLE, Wash. - What will happen when the league's worst scoring defense faces the league's best scoring offense? There will soon be an answer when the Washington Commanders play the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field.

Commanders Statistical Leaders

• QB Sam Howell: 1,534 yards, 10 touchdowns, 13 interceptions
• HB Brian Robinson Jr.: 321 yards, 2 touchdowns
• WR Terry McLaurin: 457 yards, 3 touchdowns
• LB Cody Barton: 71 tackles, 4 TFL, 0.5 sack

Statistically, the Commanders are one of the worst teams in the NFL on both offense and defense - they rank last in points per game, points allowed per game, and offensive yards per game. The transition to quarterback Sam Howell has not been what Washington and head coach Ron Rivera have expected...the 2nd-year pro has thrown 13 interceptions, trailing only Colts rookie Anthony Richardson. Howell isn't also getting much help from the team's running game. Brian Robinson Jr. is averaging under 3 yards per carry, and Antonio Gibson just 3.7. Defensively, former Seahawks linebacker Cody Barton leads the team with 71 tackles, although that's not saying much when the Commanders are giving up 29.2 points per game to their opponents.

Things have accelerated backwards for the Commanders since their season-opening win against the Cardinals - they have lost 8 straight and now face the NFL's best offense.

Things to Watch For

• Can the Seahawks' defensive improvements continue against Washington?
  Seattle may have found some momentum on the defensive side of the ball after holding the Ravens to just 17 points last week and forcing two turnovers. They will be without starting linebacker Darrell Taylor for the foreseeable future, however the Seahawks couldn't have found a better opportunity to continue improving on defense than against the league's worst offensive team.

• Does Seattle keep things safe with Geno Smith?
  The 12s were holding their breath after the team's starting quarterback - and currently one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL this season - left last week's game with a knee injury. Smith, however, was cleared to play this week, but it will be interesting to see how head coach Pete Carroll and offensive coordinator Shane Waldren utilize Smith. Will the quarterback be slinging the ball as he has been all season, or will the Seahawks turn to the running back committee of Zach Charbonnet, Deejay Dallas, and Kenny McIntosh to keep Smith out of harm's way?

Zach Charbonnet tallied a second straight 100+ yard game in Seattle's blowout win over the Commanders.

// Seahawks crush Commanders for 7th win of season
SEATTLE, Wash. - The Seahawks advanced to 7-2 for the season after a 21-point victory over the Washington Commanders, however the win came at the cost of potentially losing two more offensive starters to injury.

Tight end Noah Fant and left tackle Charles Cross both exited the game and did not return. Will Dissly and Stone Forsythe took their place in the lineup. Dissly finished the game with 4 receptions for 34 yards and a touchdown, while Forsythe was part of an offensive line unit that helped Zach Charbonnet and company run for 258 yards on the ground, a new season-high for Seattle.

It was clear from the beginning that the Seahawks wanted to use their 3rd-ranked rushing attack to control the game, and they were able to do just that. The Seahawks dominated the time of possession, holding the football for nearly 42 minutes. Charbonnet ran for over 100 yards in his second consecutive game as the team's starting running back and doubled his season touchdown total to 4 after punching it into the end zone twice against the Commanders. Deejay Dallas also added 86 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Kenny McIntosh ran for 48 yards on 8 carries.

The game's opening drive set the tone for the rest of the game - Washington quarterback Sam Howell was intercepted by safety Quandre Diggs, who returned the pick 75 yard before being pushed out of bounds by Curtis Samuel. The turnover set up Charbonnet's first touchdown of the game.

Defensive coordinator Clint Hurtt's aggressive play-calling resulted in a first half shutout before the Commanders used several big plays to score 21 points in the second half, something Hurtt would like to see cleaned up in the coming weeks. All of Washington's touchdowns came on plays of at least 35 yards - Brian Robinson Jr. broke multiple tackles en route to a 39-yard rushing touchdown. Jahan Dotson broke free from Devon Witherspoon for a 36-yard touchdown, and cornerback Coby Bryant was beaten off the line of scrimmage by Curtis Samuel for a 75-yard touchdown.

"We [the defense] did a lot of things right today but still need to clean up the big plays," Hurtt said. Aside from those lapses, the Seattle defense sacked Howell 4 times and allowed the Commanders to convert 2 of 9 third down attempts.

The Seahawks didn't ask for much from their receivers or Geno Smith, who threw the ball for just 198 yards but had 3 touchdowns. Jaxon Smith-Njigba led the team with 46 receiving yards, and fullback Nick Bellore recorded his first career touchdown in the 2nd quarter when Smith found him wide open off of a play-action call.

Seattle travels to Los Angeles next to play the Rams.

Tennessee was without Ryan Tannehill for their game against the Buccaneers, but rookie Will Levis ensured there would be no drop-off as he helped engineer a 31-10 Titans win on the road. Levis threw for 168 yards and a touchdown while completing 13 of 21 passes. He was aided by Derrick Henry (15 carries, 122 yards, 2 touchdowns) and a Titans defense that has allowed just 13 points in their last two games combined. With a Jacksonville loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the Titans have an opportunity to take sole control of 1st place in the AFC South next week when they face the Jaguars. While it is unclear whether Mike Vraebel will stick with Levis or go back to Tannehill next week, the rookie's performance suggests a positive outlook for the future of Tennessee's starting quarterback position.

• Colts in free fall after 6th consecutive loss
  What was a surprising 3-1 start to the season for the Colts is quickly turning into a disaster - Indianapolis has now lost 6 straight games and find themselves on the cusp of playoff elimination if they don't turn their season around. Anthony Richardson leads the league in interceptions (15), and the return of Jonathan Taylor has made little impact on the outcome of the game despite him averaging 5.8 yards per carry to go along with 5 rushing touchdowns. A much-needed bye week is on deck for the Colts before they host the Buccaneers in 2 weeks.

• The odds are in - Josh Allen current favorite for MVP
  The Bills quarterback is listed as the favorite to win the league's most coveted individual accolade through 10 weeks. The rest of the list contains all quarterbacks, which includes Justin Herbert, Tua Tagovailoa, Geno Smith, Jalen Hurts, Kirk Cousins, Trevor Lawrence, Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes, and Lamar Jackson. Allen, who finished 2nd place for MVP voting in 2020, has led the Bills to an 8-2 record and has thrown for 2,265 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions this season to go along with 327 rushing yards and 5 rushing touchdowns.

RENTON, Wash. - In addition to Kenneth Walker III and Darrell Taylor, Seattle will be without starters Noah Fant and Charles Cross when they face the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

Both players were ruled out for the remainder of the team's victory against the Washington Commanders last week after Fant and Cross left in the 2nd and 3rd quarter, respectively. They are both expected to miss multiple games - Fant suffered an abdominal tear while Cross dislocated his elbow.

The 5th-year tight end has recorded 25 catches for 278 yards and 3 touchdowns in 9 games and has been instrumental in facilitating the Seahawks' running game along with Cross and the rest of the offensive line. Will Dissly is expected to take the majority of the snaps in place of Fant, while Colby Parkinson assumes the role of backup tight end.

Stone Forsythe, a former Florida Gator, has been named starter in place of the injured Cross. His only game as a starter came last season and he will look to help fortify an offensive line that, although has done a great job in the ground game, has struggled to protect Geno Smith, who has been sacked 22 times this season (3rd most in the NFL).

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - The Seahawks go from facing the worst scoring offense in the NFL to facing the league's second-worst scoring offense in Los Angeles. For the Rams, it is an opportunity to upset the Seattle before their primetime matchup against the San Francisco 49ers on Thanksgiving night.

While the Rams' playoff hopes have effectively been thwarted this season, there is always the potential for an upset. Just a few weeks ago, the Seahawks lost to the then 1-win Arizona Cardinals and needed overtime to defeat a 1-win Cleveland Browns team. Los Angeles won their first game of the season 3 weeks ago by handing the Dallas Cowboys their first loss of the 2023 campaign. However, the team has struggled for most of the year - the Rams rank 31st in points per game and 30th in points allowed. Their -9 turnover difference ranks last in the NFL.

Veteran Matthew Stafford hasn't looked like the same quarterback since taking the Rams to a Super Bowl win in 2021. He's thrown just 12 touchdowns this season to go along with 8 interceptions. The Rams rushing game has totaled just 1 touchdown, the lowest among all teams. Defensively, they have just 1 takeaway (1 interception)...Aaron Donald has yet to make any significant impact, recording just 1.5 sacks this season.

Things to Watch For

• Can the Seahawks avoid the 'trap game' label?
  With a marquee Thanksgiving matchup against the San Francisco 49ers on deck next Thursday, some pundits are suggesting that Sunday's contest against the Rams could be a 'trap game'. Are the Seahawks already looking ahead? The answer is no, according to linebacker Bobby Wagner: "We're not treating this game any different than the others. The focus is on the Rams and winning this week."

• Cam Akers vs. Seattle's defense
  Akers put together a solid outing when the Seahawks and Rams met in the season opener, gaining 166 yards from scrimmage. Will he able to replicate that performance or do even better this time around, or will the Seahawks defense be better prepared to stop the running back? Ever since the first game of the season, Akers has failed to break the 60-yard rushing mark in his team's last 8 games and has yet to score a touchdown this season.

• The impact of Cooper Kupp
  Kupp was still on injured reserve when the teams met in Week 1, and since returning in week 6 the former NFC Offensive Player of the Year has recorded 15 catches for 191 yards and 2 touchdowns. He's slated to line up against a Seahawks secondary that, while it has improved, is still vulnerable to big plays. Kupp's presence can also open up the offense to the likes to Tyler Higbee and Van Jefferson, who is the team's leading receiver.
