you mentioned not really focusing on a specific scheme, what are going to be some goals as far as offensive identity?
is coach Mack a risk taker or more of a punt and let the defense do their thing?
same with the defense, if not a specific scheme what are you hoping for as an identity?
also, google bot beat me to it but what are your goals for the season?

Long ass update but very informative. Way to capture the grasp of the team right off the bat (even though, you know :curtain:)

I think an improvement on last year's record, maybe a bowl, would be good

I wonder how big the rating gap is going to be this year. I feel like in previous years, Kennesaw State would be like 74 or 75 but it seems like EA wants to create bigger gaps so if that's true and we're in the 60s, upsets should be harder to come across, even against a lower rated ACC team like Wake Forest

The article definitely wasn't my style but stuck with what other people have written already for now. Almost our time though.

Kennesaw State Football Preview 2025: The Improved Owls Are Starting Fresh
2025 Kennesaw State season preview. After a rough start in the FBS, the Owls have a new coach, a new feel, and plenty of experience.
Pete Fiutak - Jun 8, 2025

Kennesaw State isn't used to losing.

The program has only been around since 2015, and it quickly grew into an FCS power under former head man Brian Bohannon.

It started with seven straight winning seasons and four trips to the FCS playoffs. Things slipped in 2022. The Owls limped through two straight losing seasons before moving up into the FBS, went 2-10 with an offense that didn't go anywhere, and the school that found ways to win went 10-22 over the last three years.

Now Kennesaw State is going in a new direction, and it's going to take some building.

Enter Bubba Mack.

A Kennesaw native, Mack was part of helping bring football to Kennesaw State as a member of Bohannon's inaugural staff before reuniting with former NFL coach Jim L Mora at UConn. Mack is back now as the Owls top man for his first head coaching opportunity.

The Owls have enough experience returning to be better. They weren't gutted by the transfer portal, everyone knows this is a work in progress, and it's going to take a little while.

The winning will come soon enough. For now, in Season Two in the FBS, just get better.

Kennesaw State Owls Preview 2025: Offense

- New offensive coordinator Mitch Militello comes in after serving as an assistant at Tennessee, and with him, the passing attack should perk up. The Owls were 128th in the nation in passing, next-to-last in total offense, and 129th in scoring. He has veterans in place, starting with …

- The receiving corps should be an early positive. Losing the top three targets doesn’t matter too much - leading receiver Blake Bohannon only caught 24 passes for 289 yards - and the trio of Tykeem Wallace, Christian Moss, and Gabriel Benyard are all capable of rising up in the bigger roles.

- Dexter Williams had a few interesting moments quarterbacking Indiana and then at Georgia Southern. He's a playmaker, but he hasn't shown any accuracy in his brief work. Amari Odom is a 6-5 passer from Wofford who'll get every shot at the gig.

- The offensive line couldn't get the ground game going, but it wasn't bad at keeping defenses out of the backfield. Guard JT Pennington is the lone returning starter, and the transfer portal is handling almost everything else.

Nikola Milovac (USF) and Brandon Best (Georgia Tech) will work at guard, and Cameron Williams (Alabama A&M) will be an anchor at center. Rene Miller (Alcorn State) has to shine at tackle.

- The top running backs are gone. Again, the transfer portal has to come through, with the combination of Coleman Bennett (Rice) and Chase Belcher (West Georgia) both fresh, quick, and. looking for the opportunity.

Kennesaw State Owls Preview 2025: Defense
- Unlike the offense, most of the defense comes from in-house. It'll be an interesting situation with new defensive coordinator Marc Mattioli coming in after serving as the head coach of the Paris Musketeers - yes, that Paris. He has a lot to work with.

- The linebacking corps will be a strength around leading tackler Donelius Johnson in the middle. He's a compact hitter with range, Garland Benyard is a factor in the backfield, and Juandariun Silas is a do-it-all outside option who can move.

- Marcus Patterson (WKU) is the best of the defensive transfers coming in. He brings 275 pounds of bulk at one end, Tylon Dunlap is a veteran who can play inside or out and 6-2, 275-pound Jaiden Grimes has to hold up in the middle of it all.

- The team's two best players might be at corner. JeRico Washington is a smallish ball-hawker who led the team with two picks and eight broken-up passes. He was a Conference USA performer along with Tyler Hallum, a strong hitter who broke up ten passes.

The safeties are experienced. Milon Jones and Isaac Paul pushed through as the last line of defense a bit too often last year. Miami transfer Isaiah Thomas is one of the team's better gets.

Kennesaw State Owls Key to the Season
Start completing passes.
Everything else should start to fall into place if the Owls can just start hitting more throws. Last year, they only completed more than 56% three times - that's when the two wins happened - and connected on a mere 52% of their throws on the year. Just keep things moving. That's why ...

Kennesaw State Owls Key Player
Dexter Williams II, QB Sr.
Or Amari Odom. Williams has the tools, and he can move, but he had a hard time finding any groove when getting a shot at Indiana and Georgia Southern. For a passing game that generated six touchdown passes and 14 picks, he'll be an upgrade no matter what.

Kennesaw State Owls Top Transfer, Biggest Transfer Loss
Top Transfer In: Isaiah Thomas, S RFr.
A good recruit for Miami last year, he didn't see any time as he still kept recovering from a torn ACL. He has no experience, but he's a 6-2, 200-pound talent with tremendous upside.

Top Transfer Out: Jacob Ulrich, P Soph, and Austin Welch, PK Sr.
Yeah, the Owls have bigger problems than the kickers, but Welch hit 14-of-18 field goals, and Ulrich averaged almost 46 yards per punt. They were the All-CUSA stars, and now they're both at Oklahoma.

Kennesaw State Owls Key Game
Louisiana Tech, Oct. 9
It'll be a bumpy ride for a while, but there should be a win over Merrimack, Arkansas State is winnable, and Middle Tennessee was a 14-5 loss last year on the road.

The season closed with a 33-0 whacking from Louisiana Tech. This time around, the matchup is in Fifth Third, with the Owls getting a chance to show how much they've improved.

Kennesaw State Owls Top 10 Players
1. JeRico Washington, CB Soph.
2. Donelius Johnson, LB Jr.
3. Tyler Hallum, CB Sr.
4. Garland Benyard, LB Sr.
5. Isaac Paul, S Soph.
6. Dexter Williams II, QB Sr.
7. Christian Moss, WR Sr.
8. Chase Belcher, RB Sr.
9. JT Pennington, OG Sr.
10. Cameron Williams, C Sr.

Kennesaw State Owls 2024 Fun Stats
- Fumbles: Kennesaw State 21 (lost 4), Opponents 17 (lost 8)

- 4th Down Conversions: Opponents 12-of-22 (59%), Kennesaw State 7-of-18 (395)

- 3rd Quarter Scoring: Opponents 95, Kennesaw State 38

Kennesaw State Owls 2025 Season Prediction, Win Total, What Will Happen
The Owls will be better than the 2-10 season of 2024.

Last year's team shocked Liberty and slipped by FIU, coming within four points of going winless - there was a loss to UT Martin along the way.

But this version should slip by Merrimack, it'll at least put up a fight against most Conference USA teams, and consider it a success if the Owls double up the win total as they keep moving forward.

Set The Kennesaw State Win Total At … 3.5

Likely Wins: Merrimack

50/50 Games: Arkansas State, at FIU, at Jacksonville State, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, Missouri State, at New Mexico State, UTEP

Likely Losses: at Indiana, at Liberty, at Wake Forest
