Conway, SC. - The streak is alive, but it didn’t come without a scare.
No. 3 Coastal Carolina extended its unbeaten run to 10 games Saturday with a 70-17 demolition of rival Liberty. But for the first 20 minutes, the Chanticleers looked anything but dominant.
Quarterback Fredrick Meredith opened the night with back-to-back turnovers — an interception on the opening drive, then a fumble on the next — gifting the Flames an early 10-0 lead. Even after Coastal answered with two quick touchdowns, another Meredith interception set up Liberty for a go-ahead score midway through the second quarter.
From there, the floodgates opened.
Liberty committed turnovers on consecutive possessions, and Coastal’s offense pounced. By halftime, the Chanticleers had seized control, and by night’s end the scoreboard told the full story of the rout.
Devin Hajrullahu delivered yet another jaw-dropping performance: six total touchdowns and more than 200 all-purpose yards for the sixth straight game. The senior star broke the program’s single-game rushing touchdown record and moved within 72 yards of becoming only the second player in NCAA history — after Villanova’s Brian Westbrook — to record 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving yards in a single season.
Meredith rebounded from his rocky start to throw four touchdown passes as Coastal piled up 56 unanswered points.
“The slow start is concerning, to say the least,” head coach Kade Vaughn said. “If we have that happen against the wrong team? The check will be in the bank.”
The Chanticleers (10-0, 7-0 ACC) now travel to Tallahassee to face Florida State at Doak Campbell Stadium, needing one more win to clinch a spot in the ACC Championship in just their second year in the league.

Trevor Havin made an athletic play on a terrible decision by Meredith on the opening drive.

JaMarcus Waller started hot, but after a pair of turnovers the Flames were quickly extinguished.

Tallahassee, FL. - For the first time all season, Coastal Carolina had to prove it could win without its star.
Heisman frontrunner Devin Hajrullahu left midway through the second quarter with a chest contusion, and the Chanticleers mustered just six yards of offense in the opening frame. But behind the poise of redshirt freshman quarterback Fredrick Meredith and a swarming defense, Coastal steadied itself to grind out a 24-7 win at Florida State.
“Fred’s played in big moments throughout his young career, so we had the utmost confidence in him with D out,” head coach Kade Vaughn said.
The Seminoles landed the first punch — a 75-yard touchdown drive on the opening possession — and controlled the first quarter as Coastal went three-and-out twice. Then came the hit: linebacker Jahlil Verrett drilled Hajrullahu on the opening play of the second quarter, sending the senior to the sideline for the rest of the night.
Instead of folding, Meredith settled in. He led consecutive scoring drives to close the half, then added two more after the break, working the field with quick reads and sharp ball placement.
“The Holiday Bowl last year really helped me grow as a player,” Meredith said. “Without that experience, who knows what happens in this environment. Tonight, I just tried to throw it where the defense wasn’t.”
Meredith finished an efficient night by completing 71 percent of his passes and avoiding mistakes against a defense selling out to stop the run.
“You wouldn’t know this was his 12th career start,” Vaughn said. “He played the game exactly how it needed to be played.”
The defense did its part, too. Coastal sacked Bliss four times and limited Florida State to under 300 total yards after that opening drive.
With the win, the Chanticleers improved to 11-0 and officially locked up a berth in the ACC Championship Game in just their second season in the league.
Hajrullahu is expected to be available next week, when Coastal returns home for senior night against Virginia, aiming to cap a perfect regular season.

Ruke Aguayo nearly broke the plane on this 28 yard scamper, but the jaunt set up the opening drive touchdown for the Seminoles.

Coastal Carolina kept the pressure on Doug Bliss all evening with four sacks and a swarming pass rush.

Conway, SC. - Senior night belonged to a freshman.
Redshirt quarterback Fredrick Meredith carved up Virginia for 307 yards and five touchdowns as No. 3 Coastal Carolina capped an unbeaten regular season with a 60-7 demolition of the Cavaliers at Brooks Stadium.
Virginia showed early signs of life, marching into the red zone on the game’s opening drive. But on 4th-and-1, linebacker Anthony “Double A” Atogwe sniffed out an RPO to the flat and turned the Cavaliers away. Five plays later, Meredith dropped a corner route into the hands of Tavares Tinker for the first of his five scoring strikes.
That sequence set the tone. Whenever Coastal’s offense sputtered, its defense immediately flipped the field. When Devin Hajrullahu was stuffed on 4th-and-goal at the 2, senior linebacker Ty Oden responded by burying Josh Steiez in the end zone for a safety on the very next snap.
The Chanticleers forced four turnovers, including a scoop-and-score from cornerback Xavier Montague, and sacked Virginia’s quarterbacks six times in a smothering effort.
Even in a game where he wasn’t the headliner, Hajrullahu still made history. The senior tailback caught a 15-yard swing pass from Meredith late in the first half and turned it into a touchdown, pushing him past 1,000 receiving yards on the season. Combined with his rushing production, he became just the second player in NCAA history — joining Villanova’s Brian Westbrook — to post 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving yards in a single season.
“Once again, Reggie Bush folks,” head coach Kade Vaughn quipped as Coastal honored Hajrullahu during a halftime tribute.
“I’m just out here trying to make plays, keep the chains moving,” Hajrullahu said. “Being mentioned with guys like Mr. Bush and Mr. Westbrook is humbling. I just want to help us bring home our first ACC title — and God willing, another national championship.”
With the win, Coastal closed its regular season at 12-0 and will now turn its attention to the program’s first-ever ACC Championship appearance, a showdown with Louisville in Charlotte in three weeks time, as the Chanticleers have a rare Week 14 bye.

Virginia gambled on 4th and 1 on their opening drive and "Double A" stuffed the RPO to end the scoring threat.

Virginia had four plays of over 30 yards in the contest, including this 46 yard leaping grab. Big gains quickly turned into missed opportunities, including this grab where Xavier Montague nabbed an interception on the next pass attempt.

Another big play, followed by a turnover as SS Caleb Karapateas rocked the ball carrier and Montague scooped and scored.
