Steelers Outlast Rival Baltimore In Downpour

Lamar Jackson burned the Steelers defense twice with underneath throws that were taken to the house, but with time winding down in the 4th Q Jaylen Watson made sure there wasn't a third, undercutting the route for a decisive pick six.

Pittsburgh, PA. - In a game played under what could only be described as a torrential downpour, the Pittsburgh Steelers outlasted the rival Baltimore Ravens, leaning on timely turnovers — both early and late — to secure a gritty 38–28victory.

The tone was set immediately. Calvin Austin opened the night with a 50-yard kickoff return, and two plays later, former Raven Keaton Mitchell broke free for a 40-yard touchdown run. Just minutes later, rookie Baltimore running back Quintrevion Wisner lost the ball, setting up another quick Pittsburgh score as the Steelers jumped out to a 14–0 lead before the Ravens could blink.

Baltimore punched back behind Lamar Jackson, who found Zay Flowers on a quick slant. When corner Jaylen Watson slipped on the soaked turf, Flowers streaked free for a 78-yard touchdown that reignited the Ravens’ sideline.

A Steelers field goal pushed the lead to 17–7, but the wet conditions soon bogged down both offenses. After back-to-back Pittsburgh drives started deep in their own territory, Jackson finally capitalized late in the first half, threading a 13-yard touchdown pass to pull within three.

Pittsburgh responded out of the break with a methodical 13-play drive capped by Jaylen Warren’s short touchdown run. Yet, Baltimore answered again when Rashod Bateman turned another quick slant into a 78-yard score — the Ravens’ second lightning strike of the night.

From there, though, the Steelers clamped down. After another sustained drive made it 31–21, the dagger came from the defense. With the Ravens down 10 and pressing, Jackson went back to the same quick slant concept — only this time, Jaylen Watson jumped the route, picking it clean and sprinting untouched for a pick-six.

“They were killing us on those quick cuts with how slick the field was,” Watson said postgame. “I knew if I wanted to stop it, I had to jump it — so I did.”

Baltimore would add a late touchdown, but any hopes of a comeback vanished when the Steelers recovered the onside kick.

“Whatever we’ve got to do to win, that’s all that matters,” said quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr., who finished without a touchdown for the first time as a Steeler.

Now 7–0, Pittsburgh remains one of three unbeaten teams remaining and will head to Foxborough next week to take on the 4–2 New England Patriots.
