'Book the ticket', Trumaine Lasike's Heisman campaign is fully underway
Chris Wallace -- 247Sports Stanford Football Insider

Stanford running back Trumaine Lasike didn't play much in last year's spring game and entered last year as RB3 behind Trent Parrish, who rushed for a 1,000-yards the year prior at Stanford, and Kennesaw State/Florida transfer Jamarice Wilder who was a 1,000-yard rusher for Stanford coach Bubba Mack at Kennesaw State.

By the end of the season, which resulted in Stanford winning two playoff games, Lasike was the unquestioned RB1 with legendary performances in the playoffs, finishing the year as the Cardinal leading rusher with 1,640 rushing yards and seventeen touchdowns.

Lasike was the star of Stanford's spring game this past weekend, breaking off two long touchdowns before calling it a day at halftime. Mack made it clear that Lasike will be the team's feature back, breaking away from his previous use of a committee at both Kennesaw State and in his first two seasons at Stanford that all featured multiple 1,000-yard rushers.

"He's our best [offensive player]," Mack said of Lasike, "I think any games that he doesn't see at least twenty carries, something went wrong so yeah, you can book that ticket to New York City and you'll see him there."

A ho-hum day for Alex Rowe
It was during last year's spring game that then Kansas transfer Zach Hoppes really took the starting job and ran with it at quarterback, beating out Alex Rowe. With Hoppes now at Louisiana-Monroe, Rowe is the likely starter unless something goes really wrong over the next couple of months.

He was okay on Saturday, completing some intermediate passes to Zach Yelk and connected on a deep pass to Rodney Cookus up the sideline that felt reminiscent of the dynamic that Jalen Ramsay brought to the offense last year. But as was the case last spring and throughout fall camp, there just weren't many 'wow' moments with Rowe.

The lack of explosives is why the team ultimately went with Hoppes last year but unless one of these true freshman quarterbacks that are arriving in the summer absolutely light it up, it's hard to imagine a world where Rowe isn't the starter.

The young guys are starting to put it together
Stanford was a pretty veteran team last year but with the transfer portal ban, they didn't have the same luxury they had last season of being able to replace those veterans with more veterans. Instead, the Cardinal played a lot of freshmen and second-year players throughout the spring and in the spring game.

Redshirt freshman Angel Bass was one of those standouts as he didn't play at all last year and was frankly an afterthought coming into the spring but had a really solid spring and was active in coverage in the spring game. He might have played himself into a role and potentially could challenge for a starting safety spot next to Jimmie Winston.

At running back, Anthony Masifilo is making a strong push for that RB2 role, ahead of senior Dakota Granderson. Cookus, who we mentioned before, adds some speed on the outside which the Cardinal don't have with the graduation of Jalen Ramsay. Redshirt freshman Benjamin Streeter could also factor into the rotation at corner.

I mean, not too bad circumstances considering the transfer portal ban. That's one hell of a recruiting board all things considered. This running game is going to have go nuclear with the change at quarterback.
