Spurs drop season opener on road to Mavs, 111-100
October 24, 2024 -- American Airlines Arena

DALLAS -- It was an opening night for two teams in the same state with two very different expectations between last season's Western Conference champion Dallas Mavericks and the rebuilding San Antonio Spurs.

It was also Klay Thompson's Dallas debut. He didn't waste any time proving his worth, as he led all scorers with 38 points, connecting on 7-of-15 three-pointers.

The game was unexpectedly close through the first 32 minutes until Dallas went on an 11-2 run in the third quarter to push their lead to 13, which they would never surrender.

Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs with 28 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks, while Chris Paul struggled in his Spurs debut, shooting 4-of-16 from the field for 13 points and dishing just five assists. Rookie Stephon Castle chipped in with 10 points in just 18 minutes.

Up Next -- San Antonio continues the Lone Star theme, as they host the Houston Rockets (1-1) for their home opener.

needs more Stephon Castle

Klay gave you the work but I'm looking forward to the Spurs' progression throughout the season. Might be following the NBA a bit more this year :curtain:

yeah klay was cookn... think he scored around 30 in the first half  had to switch up the gameplan and then luka took over. kyrie was ok, but i was focused on him in the beginning, and thats why klay went off like he did

i was thinking... this team is actually perfect for him. two shot creating playmakers in luke and kyrie with bigs who space the floor means he's gonna get a TON of open looks. and he'll have space to hit his one-dribble pull up too. just might be
