End of Season Championships and Awards

AP -- Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed has officially been named the 2026 Heisman Trophy winner, winning the trophy over USC quarterback Jayden Maiava, Texas quarterback Arch Manning, and Virginia quarterback Eli Holstein. Reed becomes the first Aggie quarterback to win the trophy since Johnny "Football" Manziel became the first freshman in history to win the award back in 2012.

Reed led the Aggies with 2,802 passing yards for 21 touchdowns to only one interception thrown all season. This paired with Reed's impressive 68% completion percentage and his outstanding play on the ground to the tune of 921 rushing yards and 13 more touchdowns led to him taking the trophy after Maiava was leading the polls all season long. Manning made a late surge in the season after some impressive wins for his Texas Longhorns while Holstein led the Cavaliers in an improbably push to becoming the #2 ranked school in the nation.

Reed will also pick up the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award, and the Paul Hornung Trophy along with a 1st-team All-American team position while Maiava was named the Davey O'Brien Award winner.

Another important thing to note was just how dominant the Georgia Bulldogs' defense landed amongst trophy winners, along with California's Ian Strong winning the Fred Biletnikoff Award as the nation's best receiver over Ohio State's Jeremiah Smith, who was the heavy favorite going into the Big Ten Championship Game that saw the Buckeyes fall once again to their hated rivals, the Michigan Wolverines.

Offensive Coordinator Khalil Prince reaffirms commitment to Kent State ahead of coaching carousel

KENT, Ohio - Ahead of Kent State's appearance in the Xbox Bowl against Kennesaw State, offensive coordinator Khalil Prince has made his attempt to quiet the noise around him being on the Golden Flashes' sidelines next season while the college football vultures have begun to circle up ahead.

The first domino to fall has been Sonny Dykes out in Fort Worth, Texas, after TCU announced that they had parted ways after six seasons as the boss of the Horned Frogs. Dykes came along after a three-year stint with SMU, becoming only the third coach in history to lead both SMU and TCU. Dykes was immediately gangbusters, leading the Horned Frogs to a 12-0 season that was unfortunately ended with a loss in the Big 12 Championship game against Kansas State. This successful season landed him the Bear Bryant Award as coach of the year.

The team has been rumored to be looking for a younger, new voice to hire that will take the Horned Frogs over the hump; far away from Dykes' veteran presence. Though there are certainly more experienced names in front of Coach Prince (who is only just completing his first season as a college coordinator), he took a 5-7 Kent State team in 2025 to one of the most potent offenses in the country.

During his press availability ahead of Kent State's practice, Coach Prince discussed the swirling rumors of his services potentially being available.

"As far as i'm concerned, I'm the offensive coordinator of the Kent State Golden Flashes and I have years left on my contract," commented Prince. "I appreciate that people are impressed with what we have been able to achieve offensively this past season. I understand that this is a business and I'm sure Coach [Mark] Carney would understand if I made a decision that's best for me, but I'm here."

Coach Prince would go on to talk about how loyalty is an important trait to him and that he cannot expect in the age of NIL and transfer portals for players to be loyal to him if they think that he's also "gaming the system."

"It's important to me that the guys know I'm here for them, and that I don't constantly have my foot halfway out of the door looking for the next big thing. I live in Kent, Ohio. I have a barber, I have a sandwich shop, and I have a football team here. This is my home."

Teams are expected to still try and get Coach Prince on their schedule for interviews, but as of this reporting, Prince has not scheduled nor expressed any interest in scheduling interviews for any jobs.

Bill Connelly, ESPN: For Kennesaw State, their offense flows through All-CUSA 1st-team wide receiver Zion Booker and his elite route-running that had him picking up 81 catches, 905 receiving yards, and 8 touchdowns to pace the Owls. He'll be able to give a steady Golden Flashes' secondary some work in short and medium passing distances. Defensively, the Owls get a ton of interior pressure from junior defensive tackle Jaiden Grimes. He picked up 15 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. Kent State is typically vulnerable to defensive pressure from the middle, so that is something they'll have to account for.
