The Phoenix Suns are continuing to take their lumps early in the season, as they fell to the Los Angeles Lakers to extend their losing streak to four games. Los Angeles got off to a hot start, holding Phoenix scoreless for the first five minutes of the game before Devin Booker managed to drive the lane for a layup. Booker continued to put the Suns on his back, tying the game at halftime. Booker had already scored 30 points midway through the third quarter causing the Lakers to switch up their defensive assignments to slow him down in the second half.

Despite the loss, both teams have two NBA Cup wins, but the Lakers have the edge after handing Phoenix their first loss in pool play.

Takeaways
Lakers
The Lakers defense seemed to slack off once Devin Booker left the floor, allowing the Suns to cut te lead from 10 to 5 going into the fourth quarter. The Lakers’ bench stepped up as Rui Hachimura and Max Christie combined for 12 points to kick start the fourth quarter while James and Grace rested.

Suns
There was no support in the desert for Devin Booker, who scored nearly half of Phoenix’s 87 points. Phoenix’s bench only recorded 17 points in the loss.

Key stat
Lakers had 56 points in the paint.

Key moment
A three point shot by Marcus Sasser at the buzzer in the third quarter to push Los Angeles lead back up to five points.

Mic’d up moment of the night
“Switch off Book. Give him to me. We gotta slow him down.” - David Grace

Up next
Phoenix will remain at home to host the Brooklyn Nets. Los Angeles will head back to San Antonio to face the Spurs.

Grace & Booker basically playing one on one out there. The rest of the teams didn’t do squat!
