Report: Nevada football eyes Brad Cornelsen as offensive coordinator
Jeff Longo -- Nevada Sports Net College Football Writer

Nevada football coach Jerome Singleton is targeting former Sam Houston State offensive coordinator Brad Cornelsen to run the Wolf Pack's offense, per a report from Football Scoop.

Cornelsen has worked as an offensive coordinator at Northeastern State, Memphis, Virginia Tech and has been the play caller at Sam Houston State since 2023. The Bearkats offense struggled last year, averaging just 16.7 points per game but Cornelsen has seen success in previous years, being nominated for the Broyles Award in 2015 for his work with Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch.

The Wolf Pack have already interviewed Wake Forest offensive coordinator Warren Ruggiero who has been with the program since 2014. Ruggiero is also a rumored candidate for the offensive coordinator role with Fresno State.

Absolutely clogged that Michigan run offense. Going to be one hell of a run. Hopefully getting out of Madison with a ring.

Nevada names Brad Cornelsen offensive coordinator
nevadawolfpack.com | Football

RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada has announced the hiring of Brad Cornelsen as the new offensive coordinator for the Wolf Pack football team, head coach Jerome Singleton revealed on Monday.

Cornelsen brings a wealth of experience to Nevada, having previously served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Sam Houston State. During his tenure at Sam Houston, Cornelsen was instrumental in developing a high-powered offense that consistently ranked among the top in the conference.

“We are thrilled to welcome Brad Cornelsen to our coaching staff,” said Singleton. “Brad’s extensive experience and proven track record of success at both the FBS and FCS levels make him an ideal fit for our program. His innovative approach to offense and ability to develop quarterbacks will be a tremendous asset to our team.”

Before his time at Sam Houston, Cornelsen spent six seasons as the offensive coordinator at Virginia Tech, where he helped lead the Hokies to multiple bowl appearances and developed several standout quarterbacks. His coaching career also includes stints at Memphis, Missouri Southern State, and Oklahoma State.

Cornelsen expressed his excitement about joining the Wolf Pack. “I am honored to be a part of the Nevada football program,” he said. “Coach Singleton is building a strong foundation here, and I look forward to contributing to the team’s success. We have a talented group of players, and I am eager to get to work and help them reach their full potential.”

Cornelsen’s hiring comes as Nevada looks to build on its hiring of Singleton as head coach and continue its pursuit of a Mountain West Conference championship. Singleton will serve as the team's defensive play caller.
