Bulls land their QB but losing ground on White, Williams and Johnson
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider
For the third straight class, USF head coach Malcolm Francois has landed a quarterback. This time, it's three-star QB Brandon Tidwell out of Douglasville, Georgia.
Tidwell is listed at six-foot-three and 195 pounds and his tape is rather average. He's not a great athlete but also not a terrible one and his arm talent is nothing to write home about. Simply put, Tidwell is a development quarterback that will most likely not see the field for two to three seasons, if not more.
The bigger news of the weekend is USF's standing with five star athlete Zac White, five-star safety Dan Johnson and four-star defensive tackle Rian Williams. For White and Williams, USF were the favorites to land them following visits a few weeks ago but that is no longer the case.
White is taking a visit to UCF this weekend and if the Knights can turn their season around, they might be able to steal White from the hands of USF. Losing White to the likes of N.C. State would be one thing but losing yet another top prospect to the Knights is another. For Williams, N.C. State is a recurring pest as most experts are picking the Wolfpack to land the 275-pound defensive tackle.
Johnson was always a long shot for the Bulls but for non-football reasons as he had plans of enrolling at the Air Force Academy. Johnson received an offer from Clemson a month ago and since then, it looks like Clemson might be the team to beat.
If USF does strike out on all three, it might be time to close shop and be happy with a haul of six four-stars, five three-stars and the nation's number two recruiting class. Yes, similar to last season, that ranking will dip as other schools start filling out their class but nevertheless, USF is looking at a top 25, top-30 at worst class. There simply isn't a ton of talent out there that at the eleventh hour USF can grab up.
