Bulls lose out on LB Hollis but land four-star DT Newsome among others
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

Ever since Malcolm Francois took over as head coach of the South Florida Bulls, the Bulls have always had big recruiting weekends with a ton of kids on campus and for the most part, they come with commitments.

Such was the case this weekend when several prospects attended the team's win over Cincinnati and then saw four-star defensive tackle E.J. Newsome, four-star receiver Mike Holmes, four-star athlete Victory Tucker, three-star running back Greg Johnston, three-star defensive tackle Justin Barry, three-star linebacker Matt Stewart, three-star cornerback Michael Walker and three-star safety Aaron Graham all commit over the weekend.

Starting with the four stars, Newsome is talented, 265 pound defensive tackle that could play five technique in the team's 3-4 scheme as well as defensive tackle in their four-man fronts. The Bulls beat out Georgia Tech for the Alabama product. In Holmes, Florida and Florida State were all in play for the speedy slot receiver who projects very well in the Bulls offense. Tucker was a late bloomer, earning his fourth star during his senior season and didn't have many major offers. Tucker is a six-three, 264 pound prospect that projects to be a defensive end at the next level.

USF did lose out on linebacker Kevin Hollis with the Miami product committing to nearby FIU. FIU is also trending upwards with three-star guard Jamie Babcock as is UCF. This late into the cycle, losing out on Babcock could lead USF to take only one offensive linemen in this class in G Maurice Williams.

The Bulls have very few players left on the board. The biggest fish is four-star safety Chip Bryant out of Boynton Beach who is deciding between the Bulls and Oklahoma in a recruitment battle that will likely bleed into the new year. Mark Gray, the three-star cornerback out of New Jersey, remains in play as well as three-star defensive end Mark Hawkins and three-star tight end Joe Wayne.

New names to keep in mind are receiver Marco Mason, JUCO athlete Kyle Bennett and linebacker John Stone, who also eligibility issues.

Hawkins and Kimbrough latest addition to the class while Wayne and Babcock continue to trend in wrong direction
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

Four-star WR Scott Kimbrough out of Red Bank, South Carolina and Venice, Florida three-star defensive end Mark Hawkins are the latest addition to a stack 2018 recruiting class for the USF Bulls.

Kimbrough, who was being recruited by Clemson and South Carolina, is a six-foot, 202 pound receiver that is more dangerous with the ball in his hands than without it. His stocky build could lend him to make a similar transition as Alex Strong to running back. It will likely depend on what the Bulls decide to do with five-star athlete Trey Davis who could end up anywhere from running back, receiver to defensive back.

Hawkins is a prototypical edge rusher with less than ideal speed but good enough to stay on the edge. His limited athleticism will likely keep him away from playing that BUCK linebacker position but with time, Hawkins could end up there or bulk up and stay inside.

Two players that USF isn't expecting a commitment from anymore are guard Jamie Babcock and tight end Joe Wayne. Wayne was once considered a lock but the staff allowed other schools such as Baylor, SMU and UL-Monroe to make late push for the tight end. The Bulls could enter 2018 with just two scholarship tight ends on the roster, a position they were once loaded at.
