McFarland Leads Comeback for USF Following Pittman Injury vs. Baylor
Once the number one quarterback in the nation, Mike McFarland's tenure at USF has been one of ups and downs, mostly the latter.
McFarland stepped in for the injured James Pittman and helped the Bulls scored 21 points in the final eight minutes of the game to beat Baylor and escape Wasco with a 45-38 victory.
Pittman left the game in the first quarter with a concussion. McFarland led two scoring drives of his own but it wasn't enough as a muffed punt would allow the Bears to score twice in the final two minutes of the first half to take the 27-17 lead.
McFarland and the Bulls would answer back on their first possession of the second half, converting a 4th and 6 to Erik Bass for the 26-yard touchdown. Following a Baylor field goal, the Bulls would score three straight touchdowns to take the 45-30 lead with 2:06 left in the game.
Baylor made it interesting in the final minute, scoring and recovering the onside kick but turned the ball over on downs with 45 seconds left in the game.

Bulls Drop A Seventy....Burrito? On TCU
With the alumni in attendance for Homecoming Weekend, the USF Bulls scored 42 points.
In the first half.
Bulls head coach Malcolm Francois was able to play a lot of his backups and freshman as the Horned Frogs were ran out of Tampa to the tune of a 70-21 beatdown.
James Pittman and most of the Bulls starters only played a half, enough for Pittman to throw five touchdowns. William Stone remained in the game sporadically in the second half, scoring two more touchdowns including one with just four seconds left in the game after the Bulls had already taken a kneel on first down.
Francois took exception to the defensive lineman rushing on that kneel down.
"I didn't like the fact that they were trying to do whatever they were trying to do on first down," Francois said when asked why he called a play with four seconds left in the game, "I thought it was [expletive] so we can play that game."

Run of the Bulls ‣ USF Football News
Andrew Lake -- 247 Sports Staff Writer
‣ HB Mitchell out for several weeks with rib injury
USF running back Gerald Mitchell suffered a rib injury against TCU and will most likely miss the rest of the season.
Mitchell, a sophomore out of Virginia, has rushed for 613 yards on the season and five touchdowns. With David Fuller still out with a pectoral injury, the Bulls are now down to just two healthy running backs for what could be the rest of the year.
Head coach Malcolm Francois mentioned during his press availability that H-back Terrance Holland has worked with the running backs this week.
‣ Ex-Bulls still adjusting to post-USF football careers
USF lost plenty of talent to the transfer portal this past off-season with QBs Jeremy Thomas and Eugene Shaw along with receivers Brandon Burns and Benji Bright leaving the program. The grass, however, hasn't been greener.
Thomas lost the starting job at Georgia State after a disappointing first half that saw him go 5 of 17 for 87 yards and an interception. He's served as the team's backup since.
Shaw and Bright enrolled at East Mississippi Community College and they've had on-field success but haven't been able to turn into committable offers. Texas and Oklahoma are interested in Bright while Pac-12 schools USC and Stanford has been involved in Shaw's recruitment but no formal offer yet. As the recruiting cycle comes to its close, it might be closing time. USF has not made contact with either player about potentially returning.
Burns has been the lone bright spot, catching a career high 31 passes for 585 yards and three touchdowns at USC.
‣ Bulls Network to feature non-conference game in 2024
The premier of the Bulls Network, a digital only media network that was launched earlier this season, has been a success thanks largely in-part due to the behind the scenes content provided by the football program.
The network will take another major step next season when it was announced via their social media page that non-conference games will be broadcasted on the network next season.
The press release was brief and did not mention any specific details on which non-conference games will be featured. Notre Dame has broadcasting right and the Alabama matchup is not likely to be on the network, leaving ACC foes N.C. State and Louisville. Given that N.C. State is a home game, this is most likely game that will be broadcasted.
The Bulls Network partnered with Hulu to deliver a three-part series titled 'Strength In Unity' which followed the Bulls throughout spring practices. The series returned in September for just one episode, recapping fall camp. Head coach Malcolm Francois had mentioned in previous conversations with the media that the insider's access is something he's welcomed to doing more of.
"We're definitely open to doing it for the entire season," Francois said back in October when asked about his comfort level with the program being filled, "The camera crews and producers do a great job of blending in so it's not like you feel like you're on some set. They sort of hide in the shadows and you forget they're there. We had a busy travel schedule to start the season so I don't think we were quite ready for that but in the future, we're definitely open to it and would welcome it."
It was already announced last month that the team's spring and fall scrimmages will be made available on the network.
