We came out of the gates HOT in Game 1. Hopefully we can ride some more of that momentum into Game 2.

Until Next Time.

“I want you to come to Oklahoma City with me.” I said to Liberty when we made it back to my spot after the Game 2 loss to the Thunder. It’s been great having her support once again but we still live in separate cities. Separate countries, to be exact.

“Really? Don’t get me wrong Tiny, I’d love to come, but are you sure you want me to follow you to Oklahoma? I do need to head home & make sure everything’s still in order.”

(I can definitely sense some hesitance in traveling to Oklahoma City.)

“What if I went back to Calgary for a couple of days & then came back to New York City for Game 5?”

I was silent until she decided to say more.

“It’s just that there’s something there I need to do.”

(....)

“Do tell me more.” I said.

“Okay… Well. I guess now’s the best time to tell you. Do you remember my friend Ana?”

“Ana?”

“Yeah. Ana. She was there when we got pulled over for street racing all those years ago before you fought Jon Jones the second time.”

“Ohhhh yeah I remember Ana, vaguely.”

“Okay well shockingly she knows A TON of people in Calgary..”

“You’re still racing?” I said as I cut her off.

“Mm. Technically no?” She replied. “I haven’t raced in years.”

“That’s what I thought. When you moved to Calgary I thought you moved on from that scene.”

“Well I did, but racing has always been my passion & you know that. I haven’t raced in years. Ana had made some calls & introduced me to a team in Calgary. To this day, I’ve still not actually met them, but they emailed me yesterday about looking for a replacement driver for an upcoming race in a couple of days & I accepted. I’m sorry, Tiny. You know you have my fullest support. When I saw the payout I couldn’t resist.”

“How much are they offering?”

“Assuming I win, around $40,000 for my cut.” She replied.

“That’s a lot of money.”

“It is. But that’s why I have to head home. It’s not because I don’t want to travel to OKC with you. But since you guys lost tonight, that guarantees another game here in New York. & If you go back to Oklahoma City for Game 6 then I’ll 100% be there! I won’t miss another game besides these next two.”

(She seems sincere so I’ll buy it.)

“That’s cool. I get it. Go be the best version of you while I try to do the same. Do you still have the ‘84 Testarossa I bought you the day I proposed?”

“Of course! It’s in the shop. I haven’t driven it in a really long time but I won’t be taking it out in this race. That’s why I’ve got to get back so I can see exactly what I’ll be working with. The Testarossa still runs like a charm. If you ever come to Calgary, I’ll be sure to give you a spin & remind you of old times.” She said with her precious charming eyes gleaming right at me.

“You better take me around in it!” I said as I decided to put my arm around her.

“I understand. You go be great. I’ll go be great. & then I’ll win an NBA championship in front of your eyes in New York.”

“Or Oklahoma City!” She chimed, reaffirming her commitment to being around for the rest of the Finals’ after Game 4.

Some things never change. Personalities included. But I’m not mad one bit at Liberty for her wanting to get behind the wheel again. Just means I’ll be extra focused in Game's 3 & 4 without her there to distract me.. Or help me? Damn.

“You already know I’m more than proud of you no matter the outcome of this series.”

She tossed her arms around me as I embraced her.

“But don’t let me sour the mood! I’m here for the rest of the night. How can I turn that frown, upside down, mister?”

(....)

“You already have.” I said as I flicked the #32 Jimenez jersey she was wearing.

“So you're still not tired of seeing me in your jersey. Is that what you’re saying?” She said with a grin.

"You hit the nail on the head."

I kissed her & we retired to the bedroom, where I was ready to catch instant zzz’s after shooting 5/17 tonight. Damn. I played awful today.
