USF expected to be part of inaugural 'Champions Division' in new mega-conference
Anthony Washington -- The Tampa Bay Chronicles
The University of South Florida along with current conference mates Alabama, Texas and Texas A&M are slated to be members of the Champions Division of the new ACC/Big Ten/SEC mega-conference according to a report by ESPN.
In the same report, it was revealed that the conference expects to have 48 members divided into three, sixteen team divisions. The preliminary division names are Champions, Contenders and Rising with the Champions Division having already been selected according to the report. The division is rumored to include USC, Navy, Texas, USF, Notre Dame, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Texas A&M and Michigan.
The structure and format of the new conference is expected to have some sort of relegation/promotion system that would be akin to that of European soccer leagues where bottom members of the higher leagues would be demoted into a lower league and vice versa.
All current SEC teams have been informed that they will be part of the conference while the same cannot be said for current ACC and Big Ten members who have reportedly already begun negotiations with current members to negotiate their departure from the conference.
From a USF perspective, it will be particularly interesting to see what happens with rival UCF. Outside of Bob Diaco's first season where he led the Knights to an 11-3 record and won the ACC, the Orlando program hasn't won more than ten games since 2023 and have largely been irrelevant. Other non merger programs such as BYU, Missouri, Stanford and Oregon have had more success recently and would be prime targets for the mega-conference to recruit into the conference.

USF undefeated tour moves through Miami 35-14
Miami star running back Robert Williams was relegated to spectator during the Hurricanes upset win over the Bulls last season as he was dealing with an injury.
Williams somehow had less of a positive impact this time around despite carrying the ball 22 times as USF's defense took the game over, holding Williams to 2.5 yards per carry in USF's 35-14 win over the Hurricanes on Saturday night.
Ryan Joseph was sacked eight times as USF's defense recorded a whopping twenty tackles for loss including three apiece for Kenny Fowler and Kevin Beck while Ron Cox led the team with five tackles for loss and four sacks.
With the Hurricanes offense for the most part in check in the second half, it gave USF's offense plenty of time to get things cooking. Bobby Jackson opened it up with an 86-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to give USF the 21-14 lead. Joey Spence and Jason McDowell took care of the rest in the fourth quarter with two touchdowns, including a 45-yarder that sent most fans packing.

Recruiting Class in Review: Plenty of misses atop USF's 2033 class but Bulls managed to land a few star players
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider
Perhaps one of the more drama filled cycles in recent history, USF was involved and the preferred landing spot for not one, not two but three star quarterbacks before deciding to ride with Jeff Jones. The other two? Future Heisman winner Frank Buchanan who at one point was 'committed' to three different school on National Signing Day and Jesse King, the local Tampa Tech quarterback who went on to be a NFL first round pick for the Miami Hurricanes.
When it was all said and done, how does this class grade out? The grading criteria is as follows: 1 star for non-contributor, 2 star for depth player, 3 star for contributor, 4 star for impact starter, 5 star for a star player.
2033 USF Bulls Recruiting Class
WR Marques Iosefo [WR #3]: 5'11", 171lbs | Lahinaluna, HI [IMG Academy] | 5-star | 4.44 40-yd dash, 240 Bench Press, 290 Squat Max
Career Stats » 148 receptions, 2066 yards, 26 touchdowns, 11 drops.
Analysis » The prototypical slot receiver that also was productive when asked to play outside, Iosefo was a three-year contributor that started his last two seasons as one of the team's best receivers.
Grade » 4-star
WR Buck Duckett [WR #6]: 6'0", 185lbs | Belle Glade, FL | 5-star | 4.44 40-yd dash, 265 Bench Press Max, 270 Squat Max
Career Stats » 7 receptions, 43 yards, 2 touchdowns at USF (transferred to Kentucky after one season)
Analysis » Duckett sparingly played as a freshman before transferring to Kentucky where he was a two-year starter before declaring for the draft.
Grade » 1-star
WR Kevin Morris [ATH #12]: 6'7", 214lbs | Daytona Beach, FL | 5-star | 4.48 40-yd dash, 305 Bench Press Max, 215 Squat Max
Career Stats » 8 receptions, 90 yards, touchdown at USF (transferred to Kentucky after one season)
Analysis » Similar to Duckett, Morris transferred to Kentucky after his freshman season and moved to tight end.
Grade » 1-star
DT Matt Bush [DT #1]: 6'1", 267lbs | Jeannette, PA | 4-star | 4.96 40-yd dash, 430 Bench Press Max, 605 Squat Max
Career Stats » 53 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, forced fumble.
Analysis » Bush cracked the rotation as a true freshman but didn't start blossoming until his sophomore season when he became a key player for the Bulls defense over the course of the past three seasons.
Grade » 4-star
HB Jason Gibson [HB #6]: 5'10", 198lbs | Tampa, FL | 4-star | 4.58 40-yd dash, 350 Bench Press, 345 Squat Max
Career Stats » 67 carries, 309 yards, touchdown.
Analysis » Part of a loaded Tampa Tech roster that featured recruiting classmates Chris Williams and Stephen Dixon, Gibson never got it going at USF. He redshirted his freshman season and has served as a situational short-yardage back.
Grade » 2-star
LB Chris Williams [ILB #1]: 6'0", 244lbs | Tampa, FL | 4-star | 4.54 40-yd dash, 455 Bench Press Max, 580 Squat Max
Career Stats » 264 tackles, 57 tackles for loss, 8 sacks, 7 interceptions, 5 touchdowns, 4 PBU, 4 FF, 2 FR.
Analysis » It didn't take long for Williams to make his impact felt as the top ranked linebacker coming out of high school. A truly dynamic linebacker that was capable of being a rush linebacker, a traditional Mike linebacker and also a playmaker once in coverage.
Grade » 5-star
QB Jeff Jones [QB #2]: 6'2", 193lbs | Port Charlotte, FL [IMG Academy] | 4-star | 4.84 40-yd dash, 255 Bench Press Max, 220 Squat Max
Career Stats » 1277 of 1797, 15011 yards, 147 touchdowns, 45 interceptions, sacked 79 times, 198 carries, 200 yards, 3 touchdowns, 4 fumbles.
Analysis » The most prolific quarterback in school history and one of the most in all of college football history, Jones was a throwback quarterback in an era of dual threats. His records will likely stand for some time and his numbers as a true freshman are downright ridiculous and a shame he never won the Heisman.
Grade » 5-star
DE/DT Ron Cox [DE #4]: 6'1", 300lbs | Houston, TX | 4-star | 4.72 40-yd dash, 420 Bench Press Max, 545 Squat Max
Career Stats » 84 tackles, 35 tackles for loss, 15 sacks, 2 forced fumbles.
Analysis » An instant impact player as a true freshman, Cox's versatility has made him one of the most important reasons why the Bulls have consistently had top defenses. His ability to play anywhere along the defensive line at 300+ pounds is a marvel to watch.
Grade » 5-star
CB Joe Jackson [CB #2]: 6'0", 186lbs | Omaha, NE [IMG Academy] | 4-star | 4.52 40-yd dash, 240 Bench Press Max, 290 Squat Max
Career Stats » 89 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, sack, 4 interceptions, touchdown, 4 PBU, 2 FR.
Analysis » A tactician in coverage, Jackson wasn't the greatest athlete but he made the most of his abilities with his technique and high football IQ as a three-year contributor and a two-year starter at corner.
Grade » 4-star
C Brandon Franklin [C #2]: 6'0", 287lbs | Kernersville, NC | 4-star | 5.06 40-yd dash, 435 Bench Press Max, 610 Squat Max
Career Stats » 22 pancakes, 7 sacks allowed.
Analysis » After not playing as a freshman, Franklin got the start his second season and has been a consistent part of that offensive line.
Grade » 4-star
DT Dallas Thomas [DT #6]: 6'3", 293lbs | Newton, NC | 4-star | 5.22 40-yd dash, 435 Bench Press Max, 570 Squat Max
Career Stats » 33 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, 2 forced fumbles.
Analysis » Thomas, Cox and Bush are all part of the same recruiting class that helped solidify the interior of USF's defensive line and while Thomas hasn't played as much during this season, he was productive the previous three and earns that fourth star.
Grade » 4-star
DE T.J. Meeks [DE #15]: 6'4", 255lbs | Kirksville, MO | 4-star | 4.72 40-yd dash, 410 Bench Press Max, 610 Squat Max
Career Stats » No stats.
Analysis » A tweener that never found a home as either a straight up edge guy or an interior player, Meeks hasn't been able to crack the field.
Grade » 1-star
DE/DT John Allen [DE #16]: 6'1", 254lbs | Galliano, LA | 4-star | 4.72 40-yd dash, 440 Bench Press Max, 605 Squat Max
Career Stats » 67 tackles, 38 tackles for loss, 19 sacks, forced fumble.
Analysis » Similar to Meeks, Allen was a tweener coming out but he still managed to be productive as part of a rotation at both defensive end and defensive tackle. Exploded onto the scene as a true freshman with fourteen tackles for loss and eight sacks and since has been a consistent force of that defensive line.
Grade » 5-star
LB Stephen Dixon [OLB #12]: 6'0", 219lbs | Tampa, FL | 4-star | 4.66 40-yd dash, 400 Bench Press Max, 595 Squat Max
Career Stats » 75 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, PBU, forced fumble.
Analysis » A non-factor for three seasons, Dixon came in as the lowest ranked of the Tampa Tech commits. He got his chance this year to be a starter and has shined as one of the SEC's better inside linebackers.
Grade » 3-star
T James Cochran [T #29]: 6'5", 295lbs | Church Point, LA | 3-star | 5.00 40-yd dash, 455 Bench Press Max, 645 Squat Max
Career Stats » 7 pancakes, 3 sacks allowed.
Analysis » A backup the last two seasons, Cochran still has one more year of eligibility left due to redshirting. He's been the team's starter at right tackle this season and probably has been their best run blocker.
Grade » 3-star
G/T Dave Riley [G #41]: 6'5", 270lbs | Tampa, FL | 3-star | 4.94 40-yd dash, 405 Bench Press Max, 595 Squat Max
Career Stats » No stats.
Analysis » Riley made the move to left tackle where he will likely compete with Brandon Jones next season for the starting spot.
Grade » 1-star
LB Quentin Williams [OLB #57]: 6'3", 213lbs | Clinton, TN | 3-star | 4.68 40-yd dash, 350 Bench Press Max, 525 Squat Max
Career Stats » No stats.
Analysis » Williams hasn't played much on defense or special teams but does have one more year of eligibility left.
Grade » 1-star
Superlative Awards
Most Important Signing: With so much talent at the position in this cycle, the landing of Jones was an important one because at the time, USF was coming off a mismanagement of the quarterback room that saw them be forced to play a few guys that weren't exactly USF caliber.
Most Productive Signing: Without question it's also Jones.
Biggest Bust of the Class: It's hard to call Duckett and Morris busts since they were productive at Kentucky so the 'honor' unfortunately falls on T.J. Meeks whose been a complete non-factor.
Most Untapped Potential: Outside of the transfers, could USF have done more with Jason Gibson? He averages 4.6 yards per carry but has only carried the ball 67 times his entire career and prior to this year, his season high was sixteen. He also played in an extremely pass heavy offense his first three seasons at USF and got 'stuck' behind an elite talent in Bobby Jackson.
Biggest Steal of the Class: While a four-star coming out, John Allen has been a lot better than what many people expected him to be and if not for his size, he could be a first round pick in next spring's draft.
Biggest Lost of the Class: All parties are probably fine with their pick at quarterback with USF landing Jones, Middle Tennessee State changing their program around with Buchanan and Miami got a productive season out of King who battled injuries. QBs aside, the biggest lost of the class was probably five-star WR Calvin Stratton (93 ovr) who ended up picking Florida State over USF. Stratton had nearly 1,000-yards as a junior and in four seasons has caught 196 passes for 2512 yards and 31 touchdowns.
