My hot take. Get rid of bowl season. Winner of the mega conference champions league is the “true champion” and they play in an “exhibition” for a trophy that is the second most prestigious trophy behind the mega conference champions league against the best non mega conference team at the end of the season.

1. Get rid of Bowl Season (unless the bowls just sponsor the matchups)
2. Follow the bracket:

3. Maybe Bowl Season is just bottom 4 to 8 Contenders play the top 4 to 8 seeded Risers for relegation...?

USF whips Colorado Buffaloes in the 2036 Fiesta Bowl
When you play football at the University of South Florida, you sometimes have to bid your time behind some pretty talented players.

With Bobby Jackson in street clothes in the second half and Dionte McCarthy injured, it was redshirt junior Jason Gibson's show for an entire half. The Tampa native took advantage of it, nearly rushing for a 100-yards and scoring two touchdowns as the Bulls put away Colorado 42-13 in the Fiesta Bowl.

Jackson only played a half before he sat out the second half along with other draft eligible junior cornerback Jeremy Daniels, with both players expected to forego their senior season and enter the draft.

USF tight end Chris Wallace played the entire game but did most of his damage in the first half, catching two touchdown passes before finishing the game with eight catches for 159 yards.

If you are moving to a promotion/relegation style system it doesn't make sense to me to have a champion for people who aren't good enough for your top league. Unless somehow you can make this post season tournament less prestigious than winning the champions league.

Also EZ mode in that game.

13th - Relegated (no bowl game)
14th - Relegated (no bowl game)
15th - Relegated (no bowl game)
16th - Relegated (no bowl game)

Contenders
1st - Qualify for Contenders Championship (Conf Champ Week in game- no bowl game) - Promoted
2nd - Qualify for Contenders Championship (Conf Champ Week in game - no bowl game) - Promoted
3rd - NY6 Bowl - Promoted
4th - NY6 Bowl - Promoted
5th - Play Champions No. 11 Seed for Promotion in NY6 Bowl
6th - No. 2 Seed in Promotional Playoffs (winner will be in Champions Division, losers in Contenders)

11th - Relegated (no bowl game)
12th - Relegated (no bowl game)
13th - Relegated (no bowl game)
14th - Relegated (no bowl game)
15th - Relegated (no bowl game)
16th - Relegated (no bowl game)

Rising
1st - Promoted (bowl eligible)

Keep bowl season. If we're going European, it's akin to cup competitions that give all the teams something to play for. You'll appease teams that are stuck in promotion/relegation purgatory by sliding them some money for their troubles through bowls.

The top 6 in the top division go to NY6 bowls. Top 2 play for the Championship. Or, if possible, 2-5 play for the right to play against 1 for the Championship.

Use the Citrus Bowl or something for the promotion playoff.

hmm i kinda like that second idea but i kind of wanted to avoid a scenario where the cfb national championship could potentially be the third time two teams play against each other since they could play in conference play, again in the conference championship and for a third time in the playoffs.

I'll also modify my initial idea by having relegated teams from the top league still be eligible for a bowl.

That could happen anyway, but with this you put a huge emphasis on finishing 1st which (in the real world anyway) would put a gigantic importance on not losing during the regular season. Every late season game for those top 5-6 teams would feel like a playoff game because it'd be the difference between 3 games to win it all and 1.

Former Tampa Tech star running back Jason Gibson enters transfer portal
Johnny Murray -- The Tampa Bay Times Sports Columnist

University of South Florida redshirt junior running back Jason Gibson has entered the transfer portal after graduating this past December from the university.

Gibson, who was a star running back for local powerhouse high school Tampa Tech, should have many more suitors after an impressive performance in the Fiesta Bowl. A three-year backup after redshirting as a true freshman, Gibson rushed for 99 yards in the Fiesta Bowl win over Colorado and had two total touchdowns.

As always, the in-state schools are expected to be in play, particularly Miami with Robert Williams graduating. As a recruit, Gibson finalists were USF, Miami, Florida and Florida State. There's always the possibility that Gibson returns back to USF as was the case last season with Jarod Green who spent just forty-eight hours in the portal before his name was withdrawn.

Gibson was expected to compete for the starting spot next season with Dionte McCarthy assuming that Bobby Jackson declared for the draft.
