Bulls land second commitment of the weekend with Orlando's K.J. Waters jumping on board
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

Just hours after their thrashing of Ohio State, USF got another win with the commitment of Orlando Edgewater cornerback K.J. Waters.

Waters is the fifth ranked cornerback in the country this cycle and with good reason with his combination of length and speed to go along with his high football IQ. Despite his thin frame, Waters isn't afraid to be physical and finished fourth last season on his team in tackles as they move him all around the field at both corner and safety.

The Bulls like him at corner but safety or nickel isn't out of the question. His playing style and athletic profile is very similar to Kenny Fowler although Fowler might be a tad bit faster coming out of high school. The Bulls have historically had a lot of success with corners that fit Waters' athletic profile and he could have an impact as soon as next season as a potential starter at nickel if Fowler, as expected, declares for the draft as a junior.

USF was able to land Waters by beating out in-state rivals Florida and Miami. Waters committed to USF while on his official visit which will continue into tomorrow on Sunday where he says he'll begin recruiting fellow defensive backs Michael Robinson and Kyle Locher that are also on campus right now.

Nation's top two safeties commit to Bulls after official visit
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

Two of the nation's top defensive backs and the top two ranked safeties Michael Robinson and Kyle Locher have committed to the University of South Florida.

The duo made a surprise joint announcement on social media that they would be joining forces in Tampa after meeting in person for the first time during their official visit this past weekend.

"We talked ball the entire weekend," said Robinson, the top-ranked free safety out of Belle Glade, "[Locher]'s football IQ is crazy, he's probably the only guy my age I've ever met who I feel like is on my level as far as understanding and knowing the game. We just clicked instantly and I just knew we needed to play together and he felt the same way."

Locher, who is originally from Kansas, has played the past two seasons at nearby IMG Academy which allowed the Bulls to rally back in his commitment after he was leaning heavily towards Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets were also in the hunt for Robinson who was previously Crystal Ball'd to Ohio State prior to the Buckeyes disappointing season thus far. Robinson got to see up close and personal USF's beatdown of Ohio State this past weekend as well.

Both players complement each other well with Robinson being a rangy, ball hawking safety with Locher being more of a thumper at 204 pounds. Beyond just his appearance, a good comparison for Locher is former USF safety Sam Peterson who also played at IMG. Jake Lott is another similar athletic profile although different playing style as Lott was more of a deep safety that could also play in the box and Locher is a box safety with the athletic traits to be a deep safety when needed.

For Robinson, he is eerily similar to another former USF safety to Jay Jacobs. Jacobs was an inch taller and a few pounds heavier but their testing numbers are almost identical coming out of high school with both running a verified 40-time in the low 4.3s.

Robinson and Locher figure to be early contributors and potential starters if Mark Robinson -- no relation -- and Wesley Adams declare for the draft. If the duo do end up starting, it'll be the third straight true freshman combination to start as safety for the Bulls, joining Adams and Robinson along with Clayton Bradford and Zach Mack before them.

Adams and Bradford, like Locher, are also IMG graduates. USF has started the season with at least one of their starting safeties being from IMG since the 2028 season.

Bulls sit atop recruiting class rankings following yet another commitment
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

Four-star offensive tackle Cole Britton is the latest member of USF's 2038 recruiting class, announcing his commitment to the Bulls on Friday night to officially place USF's eight-man class atop the recruiting rankings.

Despite being a top 150 player, Britton was lightly recruited by Power 5 schools as he made it clear early in his recruitment that only local schools -- FIU, Florida Atlantic and Miami -- would be considered along with USF, UCF and Florida. The Gators and Knights graciously bowed out early in the recruitment and for a while it looked like the Owls might be able to land the Miami native but it was USF in the end that won the battle.

Britton is a prototypical right tackle at six-foot-six and 288 pounds with a frame that can easily put on more weight to get in the 320-pound range. Left tackle isn't out of the question for Britton as he's shown he can do it at a high level for Columbus High School but the coaching staff at USF really loves him at right tackle due to his physicality.

Due to scholarship reductions, USF can likely sign just four to five more players to this class. The coaching staff is still hopeful they can land a quarterback in Jett Millines although FIU and the Gators loom large while it continues to be an uphill battle for California's Bryan Carter whose leaning towards staying in the west coast with either Oregon or Colorado.

The Bulls are saving two scholarship slots for both players, however, along with tight end Landon Wile and IMG offensive tackle Walvenski Bayless. The staff hasn't had much contact in recent weeks with fullback/tight end prospect T.J. Dawson and linebacker Jackson Gold Jr.

North Dame just doesn't have what it to takes to knock off USF in South Bend
USF senior tight end Chris Wallace was born to be Bull. Despite USF's leading tight end catching just 20 passes the season prior to Wallace's high school senior season, the five-star recruit remained committed to being a Bull.

With less than a minute left in the first half, Wallace caught his record breaking 61st touchdown as a South Florida Bull, breaking the NCAA record for most career receiving touchdowns en route to USF's 56-30 win over Notre Dame on Saturday night.

The record, previously set by Rice's Jarett Dillard, stood for nearly 30 seasons. Wallace needs just seven more receptions to break Ryan Broyles' record for career receptions which he set in 2011. He is 509 yards short of Trevor Insley's record for most career receiving yards.

Wallace's second touchdown of the night extended USF's lead to twenty-one points and at the time, seemed like a dagger although the Fighting Irish would fight back. David Quinn scored on a catch and run just thirty seconds later, breaking tackles in his way to the endzone to cut the lead to fourteen.

With Notre Dame getting the ball to start the second half, things were looking optimistic before Jason McDowell got behind the endzone for a 78-yard touchdown on the ensuing possession.

After a quiet third quarter where a failed fourth down kept USF off the board, both teams got back to their scoring ways in the fourth quarter with Notre Dame scoring twice and USF scoring three times with Derek Young ending the game with two touchdowns in the final two minutes, including a 90-yard run with 56 seconds left.

Bulls stay busy on the recruiting front with a surprise add to the class and more
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

South Dade (Homestead, FL) linebacker Jackson Gold Jr. has committed to the University of South Florida over Oregon and Michigan State in a bit of a surprise commitment.

Gold was originally was slated to make an official visit to USF two weekends ago as part of their big recruiting weekend but in the weeks leading up to the visit, it seemed that the contact had gone cold from USF's side as they had perhaps shifted their focus elsewhere following the commitment from another linebacker in Noah Webster, the four-star prospect out of California.

Even as recent as last week, the vibe coming out of Tampa was that Gold was no longer a 'take' at USF but, clearly, something has changed in the recent days as Gold is the latest member of the class. Listed at just five-foot-eleven, Gold is a bit of tweener as he has the body of a safety but the athletic profile and testing numbers of a line of scrimmage player. The middle ground is somewhere in the middle, likely as a situational linebacker on short yardage plays.

This weekend, USF is hosting three four-star recruits in quarterback Jet Millines, tight end Landon Wile and offensive tackle Walvenski Bayless. While all three players are on 'commit watch' during their visit, another play that USF fans will have their eyes on is five-star receiver Alston Marks out of South Carolina who is a new name on the radar.

The number two receiver in the country, Marks reportedly met with USF's coaching staff nearly a month ago when the Bulls played Clemson in South Carolina. Alabama was long considered the favorite for Marks but there reportedly was a falling out with the Alabama coaching staff following an in-home visit a few weeks ago.

After the visit, Marks took down all Alabama related posts on his Twitter and Instagram which led some speculating that a commitment to Georgia, the other school Marks has been rumored, could be imminent but so far, no commitment yet and no official visit to Athens.

#8 GT (4-4, 2-4) | 3 | 17 | 7 | 0 || 27
#1 USF (9-0, 7-0) | 0 | 7 | 0 | 21 || 28
-----------------------------------------------

Sill unscathed as USF's ugly comeback win over Georgia Tech improves their record to 9-0
USF's talented sophomore cornerback Tyler Matthews had a rough go of it after allowing two big completions and then got sealed off on third and goal as Georgia Tech went up 27-7 in the third quarter. Awaiting Matthews on the sidelines was a fired up Malcolm Francois Sr. who got in Matthews face for an animated conversation.

After Matthews' interception in the fourth quarter to help setup USF's rally, the first one to greet the Georgia native in celebration was Francois Sr. whose USF Bulls completed the 28-27 comeback win over Georgia Tech on Saturday afternoon to remain undefeated.

All seemed doom for USF as Joey Spence would throw an interception on the ensuing possession and after USF's defense forced their first punt of the day, the Bulls would squander it away with turning it over on downs after failing to convert on a 4th and 6.

The game turned on its head in the fourth quarter with USF forcing another punt and Chris Wallace made history on offense, breaking the NCAA record for most career receptions and then on the next play, catching an eleven-yard touchdown pass to make it 27-14 with 6:43 left in the game.

Oklahoma's Ryan Broyles previously held the record with 349 since 2011.

Georgia Tech's next offensive drive was more successful, converting two third downs but once again, they found themselves punting for the third straight drive after having a ton of success in the first half with the triple option. The Yellow Jackets finished with 274 yards rushing but were over the 200-yard mark in the first half alone and were severely slowed down in the second half, specifically the fourth quarter.

With the ball back, Spence got back to work, finding Derek Young this time for back to back big gains to get the ball within the Georgia Tech 25-yard line, down thirteen points with less than four minutes to go. After a sack set them back, Spence went back to Young for the 24-yard touchdown pass on 2nd and 21 to make it a one-score game with 3:12 remaining.

On third and eleven on the next drive, Georgia Tech's Adam Hall would be intercepted by Matthews near the sidelines. Four plays later, Spence found Young across the middle for the five-yard touchdown pass with 25 seconds left as USF bled the clock on the final possession.

Hall would be intercepted once more on his Hail Mary pass.
