Georgia Tech falls short of victory against Bulls despite losing starting quarterback
USF head coach Malcolm Francois Sr. openly said before the game that he wasn't sure if the Bulls were worth of the top ranking in the inaugural College Football Playoff rankings. Even after Saturday's win over Georgia Tech, his tune hasn't changed.

"I don't know if we're a good football team," said Francois Sr after the game, "But we're a [expletive] tough one and that's worth just as much on most days."

The Bulls were able to grind out a 45-42 win over Georgia Tech on Saturday to remain atop the Champions Division despite a four touchdown performance from backup quarterback Jamar Jenkins.

Jenkins replaced the injured Adam Hall in the second quarter and threw a touchdown pass on his first drive. On his second drive to open the second half, the redshirt sophomore out of Vero Beach, Florida rushed for a touchdown in his first extended action of his career to retake the seven point lead.

Both teams swapped long touchdowns in the third quarter with Colby Lewis getting behind the defense only for Jarod Green to do the same less than a minute later to make it a tie game.

They exchanged touchdowns once more in the fourth quarter with Lewis catching a 35-yarder this time from Jenkins while it was D.J. Manning who slipped behind the defense for the 23-yard score for Jared Chavis' fourth touchdown of the night.

USF's defense then chose the perfect time to force their first punt of the night, giving USF offense the ball back with a little over four minutes left and they never got off the field, eating down the rest of the clock with some key first downs to set up Mike Pleasant's game winning field goal as the Yellow Jackets opted not to use any of their timeouts.

With the win, USF moves closer to clinching a spot in the College Football Playoffs with a top four finish in the Champions Division.

Bulls look to reload secondary with addition of another corner in Anthony Gunn
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

After signing four defensive backs last cycle, all of which have played significant roles as true freshman this season, the Bulls added their second corner of the class in Georgia's Anthony Gunn, the sixteenth ranked corner in this cycle.

It's USF second commit from the Peach State which has been very fruitful to the Bulls over the years from the likes of Grant Oliver, Zach White, Dan Johnson, Franklin Sapp and Jason Garcia.

Despite being ranked as a three-star, internally the Bulls view Gunn as a potential starter down the line in the same fashion as four-star cornerback Travis Jones with some added versatility to potentially play safety with his length and physicality.

The Bulls also added another specialist in punter Gerald Wallace, the sixth ranked punter in his class who is teammates with USF commit Brooks Coe. Wallace took an official visit to USF last week and from his social media postings, it appeared that the Smith brothers -- Brian Jr, Brandon and Marcellus -- were also on campus for the second time in less than six weeks. All three figure to be top recruits in the 2040 cycle and are the triplet sons of former USF offensive lineman Brian Smith.

USF beat out Clemson for both Wallace and Gunn who they face this week.

USF keeps on rolling through their schedule after early hiccup against Clemson
The University of South Florida's high scoring offense was completely grounded in the first half as Clemson jumped out to an early 7-0 lead thanks to two turnovers, including one in the red zone, and a missed field goal from the Bulls.

With halftime to get things back under control, Jared Chavis would throw two deep touchdown passes to Maurice Bennett in the second half to turn it all around in the 35-10 victory over Clemson on Saturday to remain undefeated.

Bennett caught five passes for 160 yards while Jared Green led the team with eleven receptions for 123 yards. It was Green's second consecutive game with eleven receptions to bring his total up to 52 on the year, eclipsing his previous career high.

It was a day of missed opportunities for the Tigers who will almost surely be relegated next season into the Contenders Division with just one win on the season. Their defense played way above their average in the first half but Clemson punted the ball six times and threw a second half interception in the red zone that they never recovered from.
