Former IMG athlete, current USF target Clarence Sullivan formally charged in relation to on-campus robbery
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider
Clarence Sullivan, one of the top ranked recruits in the class of 2041, has been charged by the Bradenton Police Department for his alleged involvement in the armed robbery of three IMG students back in March.
Sullivan, who was expelled from IMG Academy after just three months, is listed as a co-defendant along with another former IMG athlete in Demetrius Hornsby, Michone Silas and Veronica Truitt. According to the police report, Sullivan had aided Hornsby and Silas in getting access to the dorm room of three female IMG student-athletes whose names were redacted from the report.
The police alleges that one of the female student-athletes had gotten into a verbal altercation back in mid-January at an off-campus party with Silas who was described as having an intimate relationship with Hornsby. Hornsby, who had been kicked off IMG's football team for an unrelated incident back in February, had befriended Sullivan during their brief time together as members of the football team.
According to a written statement from Truitt following her arrest, she drove her friend Silas and her boyfriend Hornsby to IMG's campus on March 14 with the intention of 'scaring them a little bit'. Once on campus, Truitt alleges that they met up with Sullivan who used his student ID pass to get them access to the residence hall of where the female student athlete resided. It's unclear to Truitt what occurred once they got inside as she stayed in the car.
In the affidavit written by the victims, they allege that Hornsby knocked on the door, entered their dorm room without permission once the door was opened and 'flashed' what appeared to be a gun around his waistband which preceded a verbal back and forth between Silas and one of the female student athletes, noted as Victim 1 in the police report. Victim 1 alleges that after the back and forth, Silas started going through her stuff while Hornsby watched them and Sullivan 'sort of hovered around the door'. Victim 1, 2 and 3 all stated in their individual report that several items of jewelry were taken, including a diamond necklace.
Sullivan is expected to turn himself in this week as he had returned to South Carolina following his expulsion.

Yellow Jackets run wild, pull off the upset against Bulls
Georgia Tech's game plan against the University of South Florida was simple. The execution, nearly flawless.
The Yellow Jackets' triple option offense rushed for 294 yards, averaging over six yards per carry in their 34-27 win over USF on Saturday afternoon.
USF struggled throughout the day with stopping Georgia Tech's offense with neither punter making an appearance but after a goal-line fumble by true freshman Jacob Wheeler and a kick return being called back for holding by true freshman Carl Graham, the Bulls wasted yet another opportunity with a missed field goal kick after the defense got their only stop of the day off an interception.
After the missed kick, Jess Murray was able to break through on third down to score on a 35-yard touchdown to extend the lead with 6:29 remaining. USF's offense, who was effective in their own right, responded with a Jet Millines touchdown run of his own with 3:34 left.
The Bulls defense once again failed to get a stop with Georgia Tech picking up the third down early in the ensuing drive to drain the time and the timeouts and then Brad Pittman found Jerome Thomas for a 53-yard pickup on a bold play call by Georgia Tech. Fullback Jon Hunter would find the endzone later on in that drive, wrapping up his day which included a career high 19 rushes for 140 yards.

Amid controversary around former teammate, IMG defensive backs Julian Harrell and Ronald Berry commit to Bulls
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider
The nation's second ranked safety Julian Harrell and sixth-ranked cornerback Ronald Berry, teammates at IMG Academy, have committed to the University of South Florida.
Berry was also considering Ole Miss, Miami, Florida and Florida State before committing to nearby USF. Berry is a well rounded prospect that is able to play either man or be an off coverage corner with the ability to play in space and break on routes. Berry is not the most physical corner at 172 pounds but he's decent against the run and has shown improvements in his press coverage throughout his time at IMG going up against elite competition.
The more physically gifted of the two, Harrell is one of the better athletes in this class with his length and top end speed. Simply put, there might not be a better athlete at the safety position with Harrell being one of the fastest players in the country. He needs to improve in coverage but from day one, his physical attributes and willingness to tackle should get him on the field situationally and possible commit for a full time role if Michael Robinson was to declare early.
Perhaps the only more impressive athlete at safety this cycle might be Berry and Harrell's former 'teammate' in Clarence Sullivan, who never played a down for IMG Academy after being expelled. Sullivan was recently charged and posted bail in regards to an incident where its alleged that he aided with the armed robbery of three female student athletes at IMG.
In speaking with those around the program, USF's coaching staff hade been made aware of the situation prior to the charges being filed and that Sullivan had been in constant communication with USF's coaching staff prior to the arrest. It remains unclear if USF is still pursuing Sullivan as a recruit.
When Sullivan first arrived at IMG, he was compared to former IMG and USF safety Wesley Adams. Adams was six-foot-five with legit 4.3 speed with Sullivan having a similar athletic profile.

How ANAC's Champions Division promotional system for the 2040 season could impact USF
Johnny Murray -- The Tampa Bay Times Sports Columnist
The American National Athletic Conference -- which consists of the Champions, Contenders and Rising divisions -- has officially announced the move towards a ten-team Champions Division, beginning next season. In order to accommodate the move from sixteen to ten teams going forward, the conference's promotional system has been adjusted for this season.
As expected, the top four teams in the Champions Division will be safe from relegation along with any other playoff participants. The Contenders Champion, who also receive an automatic playoff bid, will also be auto-promoted. This leaves, at most, four available spots which will be awarded to winners of a play-in game between the highest remaining ranked Champions Division members that didn't make the playoffs and the highest ranked Contenders Division members that also aren't part of the playoffs.
USF is currently ranked fourth in the Champions Division and if the season ended today, would be safe from relegation. The Bulls do travel to #11 Penn State in two weeks and then host #2 Miami in their final divisional game in what could prove to be a 'win and in' game for the Bulls. If they fall in the rankings and outside of the playoffs, the Bulls could be looking at a play-in game with the likes of Ohio State, Pittsburgh or North Carolina who are currently the third, fourth and fifth seed in the Contenders Division.
The board of directors for the ANAC -- which includes USF athletic director Joanne Morris -- are expected to meet at the end of the season to vote on the contraction of six teams, likely from the Rising Division. Duke, NC State, North Carolina and Clemson have already shown interest in leaving the ANAC to join the American Athletic Conference who fielded last year's national champion, Rutgers.
One of the teams discussed as being on the chopping blocks are the UCF Knights, USF's main rival. The Knights won ten games in 2038 before winning just two games last season in Bob Diaco's final season. Under first year head coach Roger McCoy, the Knights are 5-2 but remain a likely candidate to be one of the six teams bought out of the league.

USF Bulls win 56-17 against Tennessee Volunteers
USF's disastrous season last year in a lot of ways started with their 45-42 loss to a Tennessee team that at the time had a losing record. Jet Millines was benched in the game and Jacob Venckus replaced him, throwing three touchdowns but coming up short as USF's defense had no answers for Alvin Holley or Chad Smith who combined for six total touchdowns.
Through a half of football, Holley and Smith were back to causing problems for the Bulls defense but that all stopped at halftime as USF's defense blanketed the Vols offense in the second half on their way to a 56-17 win.
The Vols had a jolt of life shot back into them, down 28-17 with Millines throwing an interception in the endzone to give Tennessee the ball and the chance to not only stop USF from extending it to a three possession lead but cutting into a one score game. Instead, Holley was intercepted by Adrian Bolden who returned it for a touchdown. On the next drive, Holley would be intercepted by Noah Wester.
Mark Cunningham replaced Millines at quarterback and led three consecutive scoring drives with a touchdown pass to Joseph Moses and then back-to-back touchdowns by Jacob Wheeler who rushed for a career high 143 yards.
USF head coach Malcolm Francois Sr. reiterated after the game that Millines wasn't benched and that the team is simply continuing their rotation at quarterback.
"Mark [Cunningham] didn't play last week against [Georgia] Tech so we wanted to get him into the game," Francois Sr. added, "....There aren't any plans right now to move away from the two-quarterback system, it's working for us, for them, for the team, we're happy with it."
Millines threw for 243 yards and three touchdowns of his own.

Bulls finally enter the arms race with first scholarship offers to a pair of 2041 arms
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider
The University of South Florida has offered a scholarship to quarterbacks Rashard Woodard and Will Jones, the sixth and sixteenth ranked quarterbacks in the 2041 recruiting cycle.
The pair of offers are USF's first to a quarterback in this class after it looked like the Bulls were going to sit out signing a quarterback in this class. USF signed two quarterbacks last cycle in Mark Cunningham and JUCO transfer Brandon Riley.
Jones, a Connecticut prospect, is strongly considering defending national champions Rutgers while Woodard is the son of an Air Force graduate who are the favorites to land him. He's also shown interest in Texas, Michigan State and Alabama but has only officially visited Air Force. This late in the cycle, it'll be a tough hill to climb for the Bulls to be able to land one of them but would help round out a class that's already pretty talented.
USF also sent out official offers to two receivers in Florida's Andre Morgan and Alabama's Nick Weiss. Both are rising prospects that have put together very productive senior seasons becoming of their four-star rankings. The timing of the offers are interesting as USF recently hosted Miami five-star receiver Trey Arnold for an official visit. While the Bulls still feel like they are in the hunt for Arnold, it's clear that they're making some contingency plans in case Arnold picks the hometown Hurricanes.
Both of USF's top receivers this season, Alston Marks and Joseph Moses, are likely early departures to the draft as juniors.
