USF All-American safety Clarence Sullivan not expected to play in 2043 as trial date pushed back
Heather Watts -- ESPN.com Senior Writer
USF junior defensive back Clarence Sullivan's trial for a drug arrest that occurred earlier this year was rescheduled for next year, likely ending all hope of Sullivan rejoining the team for the upcoming season.
Sullivan entered a not guilty plea in August to his charges of possession of ecstasy and a variety of prescription drugs and was originally given a trial date of November 11th. Sullivan is currently suspended from all team activity and not permitted on campus but is reportedly enrolled in online classes.
Sullivan was arrested along with 23 other students, including two teammates at the time in David Thomas and Chris Scott. Thomas and Scott both plead guilty to delivery of marijuana and received four years of probation along with community service. Following their guilty pleas, Thomas and Scott were both kicked off USF's football team.
According to police reports, Sullivan did not sell drugs 'hand-to-hand' to undercover police officers, as was the case with Thomas, Scott and several others, but are alleging that Sullivan had direct knowledge of the drug operation that was occurring from the apartment that he shared with Scott and was present when officers raided the apartment and found drugs in the apartment during the day of the arrest. It is unclear at this time if any drugs were found on Sullivan's person or his apartment room.
In a statement released by Scott's lawyer following his guilty plea, Scott reiterated that Sullivan and his other roommate, a student at USF that was among the 23 arrested, had no knowledge of or participation in Scott's drug dealing operation.

Bulls release first official depth chart of the season ahead of opener against Southern Miss
Cooper Byrd -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer
The University of South Florida has released its first official depth chart of the season and while quarterback Rashad Woodard's starting position had been previously announced, several other questions were answered while new ones arose.
A bit of a surprise was Andre Morgan being listed as a co-starter at receive alongside Joshua Butler, a former five-star who many expected to be the unquestioned starter opposite of Scott Price once fully healthy from an injury that saw him most of his freshman season. Five-star true freshman Ryan Murray is a co-starter in the slot with sophomore Eddie Shaw, USF's second leading returning receiver.
The Bulls listed four co-starters at tight end in Taylor Smith, Jake Bryant, Russell Arrington and Jake Thompson whose also listed as the team's starting fullback.
On defense, Kyle Wood is the new starter at defensive end replacing Kareem Cunningham and Shawn Thomas is starting at defensive tackle, replacing All-American Brett Lawrence. Damon Hill and true freshman Nate Jacobs are co-starters at inside linebacker while freshman Oliver Colvin beat out James Scott to win the outside linebacker spot where Scott started at last season.
A notable absence altogether from the depth chart is safety Clarence Sullivan who remains suspended indefinitely and hasn't been with the team since his arrest in the summer.

Top 30 USF Players of Francois Era: Honorable Mentions
Charlie Flowers -- gousfbulls.com
When compiling this list, the bottom third of the top thirty proved to be the toughest part. Much of the top ten is solidified with an argument here and there about placement but when someone that was an All-American for each season he played at USF cannot crack the top thirty, it goes to show just how tough coming up with this list was.
Leading the best of the rest is safety Ray Thompson, who was a Freshman All-American, a two-time second seam All-American and a first team All-American. While dependable and a key piece of the 2024 team that won a national championship, Thompson's lack of big plays ultimately cost him a spot in the top thirty with 28 tackles for loss, five interceptions and just eight pass breakups in three seasons.
A player that did have the counting numbers was CB Ben Lewis, who also just missed the list. Lewis set a school record in 2021 with nine interceptions but most of his damage was done that season and others in front of him that did crack the top thirty were productive for several seasons. It's also hard to put Lewis ahead of other cornerbacks such Jason Garcia and Marcus Hines, who didn't have the counting numbers but were far better corners.
Garcia and Hines also didn't make the list although at one iteration of the list, they both did as they are some of the most talented players to ever play at USF. Also including in the honorable mentions are offensive lineman Victor Tucker, quarterback Grant Oliver and tight end Vincent Everett.
Everett gets a bit of a positional bump as he was for a long time the school's best tight end ever. With 21 touchdowns and over 2,000 receiving yards, had Everett not missed most of his sophomore season he probably cracks the top fifteen and makes a strong case for the top ten if his sophomore season was anything like the three games that he played in where he averaged over 100 yards.
Tucker played both guard and tackle at USF and was All-Big XII at both and an All-American at tackle. He surrendered just ten sacks in four seasons and similar to Everett, an argument could be made that he's the team's best tackle of all time but other offensive linemen (hint, hint) are more deserving.
Oliver gets a bit of a pioneer bump as he was the team's first elite quarterback under head coach Malcolm Francois and led them to their first national championship. It's a different game now and Oliver's 50 touchdowns in a career pail in comparison to what Jeff Jones, Joey Spence, Nick Williams or Jed White were able to do in just one season but it'd be remiss to talk about great Bulls and not at least mention Oliver.
Among the newer-era honorable mentions are defensive backs Clayton Bradford and Damien Ford, linebacker Chris Williams as well as running backs Jacob Wheeler and Bobby Jackson along with receiver Jason McDowell and tight end J.J. Francois.
Bradford and Ford were all three-year starters with Bradford also playing some receiver his junior season as USF was dealing with injuries. An All-American, Ford started at nickel as a true freshman and never looked back, getting better each year before being USF's best defensive player during his junior season.
It didn't take long for Williams to make his impact felt as the top ranked linebacker coming out of high school. A truly dynamic linebacker that was capable of being a rush linebacker, a traditional Mike linebacker and also a playmaker once in coverage, Williams finished his career with 57 tackles for loss and 7 interceptions along with five defensive touchdowns.
At running back, it's two similar players in Wheeler and Jackson that both rushed for over 3,000 yards in just three seasons at USF with injuries limiting both of their career totals. They were dynamic players that were electric from the moment they stepped foot on campus and have strong arguments to be inside the top 30.
A unique player, McDowell is certainly one of a kind with his combination of size and speed at six-foot-five with legit sub 4.4 speed. One of school's best deep threats, McDowell averaged a whopping 17.6 yards per reception while at USF and goes in the pantheon of Corey Montgomery and William Sapp in terms of big play ability at receiver. Keeping McDowell off the list was certainly a tough decision.
A former high school quarterback, Jean-Jacques Francois made the transition to tight end at USF and had an instant impact as a runner (five rushing touchdowns), pass catcher with 199 receptions for 2,304 yards and 24 touchdowns and was an underrated blocker, especially considering his background as a quarterback.
