USF TE Coach Robert Holland's elite recruiting continues with commitment from Matt Jordan
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider
Miami Columbus tight end Matt Jordan has committed to the University of South Florida over Miami, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida.
Jordan announced his commitment to the Bulls on Sunday as he was wrapping up his official visit with the Bulls with Jordan's future quarterback, top ranked prospect Kevin Meadows, in attendance.
The Bulls led the recruitment of the two sport (basketball and football) star end to end with USF tight end coach Robert Holland landing yet another elite prospect at the position, his third in two years since being promoted from special teams coach to tight end coach. USF signed two top prospects at the position last season in Jake Bryant and Russell Arrington who have a similar build to Jordan at six-foot-six and around 260 pounds with Jordan probably being the more developed receiver out of all three at this stage in their development.
Bryant had an impressive catch and run in the Stanford game which is similar to a lot of the plays you see on Jordan's highlight reel as he has some Jeff Rutledge to his game with the ability to catch the ball and always pick up yards after the catch as a physical runner.
This is an impressive recruiting win over USF and Holland as this is the second straight year they've landed a top tight end from the south Florida area that Florida and Miami really wanted.

The Bullpen: Richard Smith's coming out party won't be able to be ignored
Jonathan Bright -- BullsNation.com Football Reporter
In no uncertain terms, USF got very little production last season from it's outside linebacker positions at both JACK and SAM where James Scott and Joel Espinosa got the start last season. While Espinosa has been better this season so far, Richard Smith's performance in the past few weeks has dwarfed all of their performances to date since being named starters and against Stanford, he took it to another level.
Against the Cardinal, the redshirt junior had three tackles for loss along with a sack, finishing second on the team with four tackles despite not being an every down player. Smith's speed and explosiveness jumps off the screen and brings a dynamic to USF's defense they haven't had since E.J. Young went to the draft. He's likely to start this week against Virginia Tech if Oliver Colvin can't go but even when Colvin returns, USF has to find ways to get him on the field, even if that means benching Espinosa.
‣ USF fans get a taste of what Jake Bryant can do
It might have gotten lost in the craziness that followed between the Rashad Woodard injury, Chris Price's rollercoaster of a ride, the two fumbles and the end to the game but USF fans should be excited about freshman tight end Jake Bryant.
Bryant's first catch of the game went for 43 yards and most of it came after the catch AND after contact with Bryant spinning away from would be tacklers, bouncing off contact, tight roping the sidelines before he ran out of space and out of bounds. He finished with 55 yards receiving and 54 of those came after the catch which is what a lot of Bryant's game was in high school.
Taylor Smith's lone catch went for 36 yards so he looked good as well but USF needs to find ways to get Bryant involved in the passing game, especially in the red zone.
‣ QB Rashad Woodard cleared concussion protocol, expected to practice before end of week
At Wednesday presser, USF head coach Malcolm Francois Sr. confirmed that Rashad Woodard passed the concussion protocol on Saturday but that the team's internal policy prevented Woodard from entering back into the game.
Woodard passed the protocol again on Sunday and Monday but has yet to practice as of Wednesday according to Francois Sr. who says he expects the junior to practice at some point this week and likely start against Virginia Tech.
It seems that managing his injuries are going to be a season long affair with Woodard who has gotten injured relatively frequent in his few career appearances with the latest coming on a drop back pass.
USF started freshman Brian Jackson at right guard in place of Sam Jefferson and the true freshman struggled, allowing the quarterback hurry that injured Woodard and surrendered an additional sack.

to be fair.......i meant for it to be a jump ball which allows for user catching, not sure why it came out like that lmao
At some point, the injuries are going to be held against him and price might get the job off that

Hillsborough County drops drug possession charges against USF football player Clarence Sullivan
Johnny Murray -- The Tampa Bay Times Sports Columnist
USF junior safety Clarence Sullivan won't be going to trial for his arrest earlier this year as part of a drug sting as Hillsborough County district attorney's spokesperson Glenda Horn confirmed to The Tampa Bay Times that the charges against Sullivan have been dropped.
Sullivan was charged with possession of ecstasy and a variety of prescription drugs as part of an undercover sting that saw 23 students arrested as a result of an eight-month investigation into illegal drug dealing at an off-campus student apartment located less than a mile from USF's campus.
Sullivan had entered a not guilty plea back in August while teammates David Thomas and Chris Scott both plead guilty to delivery of marijuana and received four years of probation along with community service. Following their guilty pleas, Thomas and Scott were both kicked off USF's football team while Sullivan remained a scholarship athlete but was suspended indefinitely as he continued to take this college courses online and was not permitted on campus.
With the resolution to the legal case, Sullivan has reportedly been in contact with USF's coaching staff as they will begin working with university officials to reinstate Sullivan as an active student athlete.
The school and it's athletic department declined the opportunity to comment when reached out to.

Top 30 USF Players of Francois Era: No. 20 - No. 16
Charlie Flowers -- gousfbulls.com
There are no wrong answers as we get closer to the top of the list as each player has a solid claim to be ranked higher and for this particular group, they at one point were as it features plenty of 'throwback' players that newer fans and viewers won't appreciate as much as the OGs.
No. 20: LB Shelton Richardson (2016-2019)
Recruiting Profile: #19th ranked OLB in 2016 | 6'1", 220lbs | Tampa, FL | 3-star
Career Stats: 262 tackles, 79 tackles for loss, 21.5 sacks, 2 interceptions, 8 forced fumbles.
Games Started: 51
Record as Starter: 41-10
Record vs. UCF: 4-0
Conference Championships: 2 (2x AAC, Big XII)
Bowl Record: 2-1
BCS Bowl Record: 1-0 (Sugar Bowl)
National Championships: 0
Accolades: 2016 2nd team All-AAC, 2017 2nd team All-AAC, 2018 1st team All-Big XII, 2019 1st team All-Big XII, 2016 Freshman All-American, 2018 1st team All-American, 2019 1st team All-American, 2018 Butkus Award recipient (best LB), 2019 Butkus Award recipient , 2019 Bednarik Award recipient (best defensive player), 2019 Nagurski Award recipient (best defensive player)
One of the more versatile Bulls defensive players in the Malcolm Francois era, Richardson's journey at USF is an incredible one. A bit undersized for the team's 3-4 scheme as an edge player, Richardson played well above his listed measurables as a true freshman, recording 18 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks as a freshman and then 8 tackles for loss and 4 sacks as a sophomore.
When Pete Rekstis took over the defense and switched to a 4-3, Richardson went from a one-dimensional pass rusher on the edge to the ultimate swiss army knife. He won the Butkus award in 2018 as he tallied up 22 tackles for loss in an injury shortened season, proving he could not only play a different position but also do it in the Big 12.
Richardson chose to come back for his senior season in 2019 and it was one for the ages, sweeping the defensive awards with Rekstis using Richardson as a blitzer more often, putting an unbelievable stat line of 81 tackles, 31 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, and five forced fumbles.
No. 19: WR William Stone (2021-2023)
Recruiting Profile: 1st ranked ATH in 2021 | 6'0", 206lbs | Miami, FL | 5-star
Career Stats: 233 receptions, 3196 yards, 28 touchdowns.
Games Started: 32
Record as Starter: 27-5
Record vs. UCF: 2-1
Conference Championships: 3 (Big XII)
Bowl Record: 2-1
BCS Bowl Record: 2-1 (Sugar, National Championship)
National Championships: 1-0
Accolades: 2021 1st team All-Big XII, 2023 1st team All-Big XII, 2021 2nd team All-American, 2023 1st team All-American
The only other player beside Zac White in school history to lead the team in receptions each season he was at USF at the time of his early departure to the NFL, Stone's 2023 season is one of the better ones in school history. If not for his sophomore season where he dealt with shoddy quarterback play, Stone could have put even more distance between himself and every other Bull.
Stone left USF as the team's record holder in: career receptions, career receiving yards, career receiving touchdowns, single-season receptions, single-season receiving yards, single season-receiving touchdowns, single game receptions and single game receiving touchdowns. Chris Wallace would rewriter the record books a decade later but to this day, Stone is still USF's record holder for most receptions (17) in a single game. It doesn't need to belabored just how good Stone was and he did it without a true elite quarterback outside of his freshman season.
No. 18: S Jake Lott (2023-2025)
Recruiting Profile: 21st ranked ATH in 2023 | 6'1", 205lbs | Dyersburg, TN | 4-star
Career Stats: 186 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 12 interceptions, 13 pass breakups.
Games Started: 41
Record as Starter: 35-6
Record vs. UCF: 3-0
Conference Championships: 2 (Big XII)
Bowl Record: 2-1
BCS Bowl Record: 2-1 (Sugar, National Championship)
National Championships: 1-0
Accolades: 2023 1st team All-Big XII, 2023 Freshman All-American, 2023 1st team All-American, 2024 1st team All-American, 2025 1st team All-American, 2025 Thorpe Award recipient (best DB)
Like a lot of the players on this list, Lott was a day one starter who was a first team All-American as a true freshman. Was he truly deserving? That's debatable as he was prone to one or two too many coverage gaffs a game and wasn't the most physical of safeties.
He improved as a sophomore, earning All-American honors again but his real masterpiece was his eight interception junior season. While the number of interceptions were impressive, the fashion they occurred was what stood out. They were acrobatic in nature and often times clutch plays that helped the Bulls win ten games that season.
No. 17: S Wesley Adams (2035-2037)
Recruiting Profile: 1st ranked SS in 2035 | 6'5", 212lbs | Mt. Gay-Shamrock, WV [IMG] | 4-star
Career Stats: 273 tackles, 51 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, 9 interceptions, 2 touchdowns, 13 pass breakups, forced fumble
Record vs. UCF: 3-0
-- W 70-27: 10 tackles, 2 tackles for loss.
-- W 59-14: 4 tackles, interception
-- W 70-24
Conference Championships: 2 (SEC, Champions Division)
Bowl Record: 1-0 (Fiesta Bowl)
BCS Bowl Record: 1-0 (Fiesta Bowl)
National Championships: 0
Accolades: 2035 1st team All-American, 2035 Freshman All-American, 2035 1st team All-SEC, 2036 1st team All-American, 2036 1st team All-SEC, 2036 Bednarik Award recipient (best defensive player), 2036 Thorpe Award recipient (best defensive back), 2037 1st team All-American, 2037 1st team All-SEC, 2038 1st team All-American, 2038 1st team All-Champions Division
It didn't take long for Adams to make his impact felt as USF as he came in with a ton of hype due to his combination of size, speed and football IQ. Adams started every single game as a freshman, earning All American honors as he finished second on the team with 79 tackles along with an insane 19 tackles for loss for a true freshman defensive back.
Adams followed it up with an even better sophomore campaign, winning the Bednarik and the Thorpe as he led the team with 112 tackles and also had 13 tackles for loss, 2 sacks and three interceptions to help them win the Fiesta Bowl over Colorado. As a junior, Adams would put together his third straight All-American season, recording five sacks along with 19 tackles for loss and two interception for USF in the first season of the Champions Division.
Adams is certainly among the best USF safeties of all time and one of college football's best. An argument could be made for Adams to be even higher on this list but we do defer to the pioneers (hint, hint).
No. 16: DB Dan Johnson (2016-2018)
Recruiting Profile: 1st ranked S in 2016 | 6'0", 204lbs | Alpharetta, GA | 5-star
Career Stats: 210 tackles, 54 tackles for loss, 8 sacks, 6 interceptions, touchdown, 11 pass breakups, 5 forced fumbles.
Games Started: 32
Record as Starter: 26-6
Record vs. UCF: 2-0
Conference Championships: 1 (AAC)
Bowl Record: 1-0
BCS Bowl Record: 0-1 (National Championship)
National Championships: 0
Accolades: 2017 1st team All-AAC, 2018 1st team All-Big XII, 2016 Freshman All-American, 2017 1st team All-American, 2018 1st team All-American, 2017 Bednarik Award recipient (best defensive player), 2017 Nagurski Award recipient (best defensive player), 2017 Thorpe Award recipient (best DB), 2018 Bednarik Award recipient (best defensive player), 2018 Nagurski Award recipient (best defensive player), 2018 Thorpe Award recipient (best DB).
The standard by which all defensive back since at USF have been judged by, you don't just get to wear the No. 2 jersey after Dan Johnson.
Johnson missed most of his freshman season with an injury but was still named a freshman All-American. He moved from free safety to strong safety during his sophomore season, his play took off from there as he was able to play closer to the line of scrimmage. He led the team with 105 tackles and won the Bednarik, Nagurski and Thorpe as a sophomore before turning around and doing the same as a junior.
If Johnson's 2017 season had taken place in the Big XII, he might be higher on this list but the level of competition has to be considered as he's the highest ranked pre Big XII USF player on the list and with good reason.
