“Nah, you got it. Lady Tigers doing their thing this season. In y’all bag.”

“Nah, the Lakers are in their bag. I didn’t know you had it like that. You know I didn’t follow U of H that much. But then you jacked my move last month.”

I laughed. “I think Ja Morant starting doing that before you, but it’s all good.”

The first time I connected with Angel Reese was when I mentioned her in a tweet last month after doing the “Too Small” gesture and she DM’d me to “stop jacking her celly.”

We’ve since exchanged numbers. We text from time to time. Mostly to talk about ball.

“I can’t believe we didn’t get a chance to link when you were in New Orleans, D.”

“Gotta respect Coach Kim’s curfew.”

“Facts.”

“So, number three seed in the tournament. South Carolina is waiting on the other side.”

“Yeah, we missed them in the SEC tourney, but I feel like this is our time to get the ‘ship.”

“Squad is looking serious. All the pieces are there. Just play your game and do your thing.”

“I always do. Unapologetic. You know how I play it.”

“Stop blowing 17 point leads.”

“Oh, you got jokes,” she chuckled.

“We play in Houston the day of the championship, so I won’t be able to make the trip to Dallas.”

“Coach Ham wouldn’t let you catch the first half? You can take a chopper back to Houston and be there in twenty minutes.”

“We both know that’s not happening. Tell the girls and Coach Mulkey I said what’s up. Go lock up your legacy.”

Present Day

“I know that’s not who I think it is?”

“What’s up, Copy Cat?”

Angel Reese and Flau’Jae Johnson were at the Smoothie King Center for our second round matchup against the Pelicans.

“Appreciate you ladies coming through.”

“We appreciate those courtside seats,” said Flau’jae.

“Bet. How’s the break going?”

“Good. Just trying to get to the bag. NIL deals, interviews, all of that. Hadn’t really touched a ball since April. But finals are done so, I’m going back to Maryland this weekend. We’ll be back in the gym this summer.”

“Gotta keep putting that work in if LSU plans to get back. The bar is on a whole other level now. Y’all should come run with me this summer. Dre’s gonna be there visiting.”

Angel rolled her eyes and smirked. Dom’s brother was crushing on her hard.

“We’ll think about it,” she said. “We just came to provide some extra motivation. Don’t wanna be the only champs in the building.”

“Oh, it’s like that? Say less.”

“You gon drop fifty in person for ya girl?”

“We’ll see how the stroke is looking tonight.”

We kept the conversation light and even took a few pics for social media. LeBron eventually came out to get up a few more shots. He took a few pics with the girls as well.

“Rest of the team couldn’t make it?”

“They’re on the way. I came down with Flau’jae yesterday because she was doing some work with Wayne.”

“Got you. That first jawn you dropped? Straight fire.”

“Thanks. Might record something for you if you win the Finals. I know Wayne is a huge Lakers fan. He’s supposed to be here tonight.”

Soon enough it was time for me to head to the locker room as the fans started to file in for Game 3 of the NBA Playoffs. The ladies signed a few autographs before heading to a different part of the arena.
