MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama Football has learned its schedule for the 2024 season after the Sun Belt Conference announced the league schedule Friday.
The Jaguars' schedule features a pair of nationally-televised midweek games against App State and Troy, as well as a trip to SEC power LSU. South enters 2024 having won the first bowl championship in school history, and will be led by Major Applewhite in his first season as head coach. Along with the announcement of the schedule, fans can now purchase or renew season tickets.
"We are deeply excited for another great season of Jaguar Football," said director of athletics Dr. Joel Erdmann. "We can't wait to welcome our incredible fans back to Hancock Whitney Stadium this fall. We encourage everyone to get their tickets and make plans to join us in creating a first-class gameday atmosphere and the best homefield advantage in the Sun Belt."
South kicks off the 2024 campaign at home against North Texas on Aug. 31. The Mean Green went 5-7 in 2023 under first-year head coach Eric Morris. Following the season opener, the Jags will head north to challenge the Ohio Bobcats, who won 10 games a season ago, including a 41-21 victory over Georgia Sothern in the Myrtle Beach Bowl. Week three will then see USA return home to host Northwestern State out of the Southland Conference.
After three nonconference contests to open the season, the Jags will open Sun Belt Conference play at App State on Thursday, Sept. 19. The game will be televised nationally on the ESPN family of networks, and it will mark South Alabama's first game against the Mountaineers since 2021. South will then head to Baton Rouge, La. to take on LSU. It will be the first meeting between the Jaguars and Tigers, and South's first trip to an SEC stadium since 2021 when the Jags played Tennessee.
The contest at LSU will represent the end of nonconference play for USA. The Jaguars will then cap a three-game road stretch at Arkansas State on Oct. 5 before returning to Mobile for three-consecutive home games. That home stretch will start with the Battle for the Belt against Troy on Tuesday, Oct. 15. The rivalry matchup will also be televised on an ESPN network. Following the Tuesday date with the Trojans, South Alabama will host ULM and Georgia Southern on Oct. 26 and Nov. 2, respectively.
Once South has enjoyed its bye week, it will prepare for back-to-back road games at Louisiana and Southern Miss on Nov. 16 and Nov. 23. The regular season will then close with a Friday night fight in Hancock Whitney Stadium against Texas State. It will mark the second-consecutive year the Jaguars and Bobcats meet in the regular season finale.
Kickoff times and broadcast plans for each game will be announced at a later date. All dates and times are subject to change.

The defense played really well against Ohio but outside of that, it's been pretty shaky. It's about to get ugly against LSU, just hoping we can hold them to less than 50
