Coach Singleton's Post Game
Q: The team started the season with five straight losses, ended the year winning six of the last seven games. What do you think was the catalyst being that turnaround?
A: I don't know if we were ever a 0-5 team, talent wise. I think from the beginning, we came in with high hopes and expectations for this time. Some of it might have been too much, too soon for some of the guys but overall, I always think we were a talented team, capable of winning games. I think it's more about growing into who we always were and who we can be.

Q: You have two guys that are finalist for the Thorpe Award in Taylor Medina and Jamison Patton. How pivotal have they been for this defense?
A: The two best safeties in the country, by far, if you ask me. Patton is just a tone setter for us, really spent all offseason getting ready to play free safety and then we struggle to start the year, ask him to move closer to the box and he does it without missing a beat. (Medina) is just a dog, man. He's a playmaker, he shows up when you need him and just does everything for us from box safety to free safety to corner, in the slot, he's a unique player and I think has the potential to be a top five pick once it's said and done.

Q: You haven't been speaking to the media throughout the season, notable after wins. Was that intentional?
A: When you start the year like we did, I felt it was important that our players got to enjoy the wins and part of that was getting a chance to speak to you guys after wins so that's what that was about for me. Coaches lose games, players win them so I felt it was support important to let them get their shine and enjoy every moment.

Q: How important was making a bowl game, even though at this point, it won't be a premier bowl game?
A: It's more time with the guys, more time improving. It's another game for our seniors to play in and for our younger guys to get to develop. I'm not going to call it an experimental game because we definitely want to win it and end the year with a winning record and all that but it does give you the opportunity to maybe try different things in anticipation of next year.

I see you moved some pieces around. What are some of the things you see on game day and maybe in some ratings that you use to make those moves?

I initially had Thomas Heiberger at SS who was a converted LB with mid 80s speed/acceleration but 90+ zone coverage. I live in Cover 3 so my logic was that his speed shouldn't be a concern as a buzz/seam defender but he just kept getting beat and was often out of position on run plays with the terrible angles that the AI takes. Jamison Patton was also fine as a deep lying safety but was too far away from the action and he's one of our better run defenders so moved him to SS to pair him with Medina who is a STUD and then converted a cornerback with good speed/acceleration but bad man coverage and decent zone coverage to free safety to just get more speed on the backend. My corners were getting burnt and I noticed that we gave up a lot of completions in those dead zones so I needed guys that are fast enough to make a break on the ball when a receiver is coming into their zone but not in there yet.

Fortunately I just stumbled across this site a few minutes ago and this happened to be the first dynasty I clicked on and it’s absolutely amazing. I only finished the first page, but wanted to let you know. I’m going to get back to catching up on this and then onto the other dynasties on here. Keep up the great work!

Makes sense.
