Jerome Singleton could be leading candidate if San Diego State head coaching job is available
Rohan Osen -- Badger247 Senior Football Analyst

Wisconsin defense coordinator Jerome Singleton is projected to be a hot name in the coming weeks as jobs become available and one particular potential opening might have Singleton's name written all over it.

San Diego State's athletic director and their board of trustees are expected to meet in the coming days to discuss Erick Chinander's future as head coach of the Aztecs. If the university does decide to move from Chinander and his 7-17 record with the program, Singleton is a name that would make all the sense in the world.

Singleton is from the state of California, having played at UCLA, San Jose State and USC prior to a coaching career that began at the University of California and was a high school coach at Inglewood High School.

Singleton would be returning close to home which many expect the Badgers defensive coordinator to do so in this upcoming offseason as it was reported that Singleton's family moved back to the Los Angeles area prior to fall camp. Singleton has not been made available to the media in recent weeks.

Nevada football coaching search hot board: Jerome Singleton
Jeff Longo -- Nevada Sports Net College Football Writer

With the Nevada Wolf Pack looking for a new leader after head coach Jeff Choate accepted the head coaching job at West Virginia, one name that many Nevada football fans are fond of is Wisconsin's Jerome Singleton. One of the most innovative defensive minds in the country right now, Singleton could bring his punishing and exciting style of defense to Reno.

Singleton's Badgers are ranked second in the country in scoring defense, trailing only the Michigan Wolverines. The Badgers have the nation's top ranked rushing defense for the second straight year under Singleton and their passing defense took a big step forward this year and are leading the country in interceptions despite the loss of Taylor Medina to the draft.

A remarkable recruiter, Singleton has helped turn around a Wisconsin program that won just six games in his first year in Madison and are now a fifth seed in the College Football Playoffs just two years later.

A former high school head coach, Singleton packs plenty of experience despite his young age with coaching experience at all three levels of football as he was a coaching assistant with the Los Angeles Rams following his NFL career. Prior to being with the Badgers, Singleton also spent some time as a defensive coordinator for South Alabama.
