San Antonio's playoff drought continues but the future is bright for the Spurs
After making the playoffs for a record twenty-two straight seasons, the San Antonio Spurs failed to reach the playoffs for the sixth straight season, tied with the Detroit Pistons for the second longest active playoff drought.
The Spurs did take a step forward in Victor Wembenyama's second season, reaching the forty win mark for the first time since 2019 and were firmly in playoff contention for most of the season before a late skid saw them have to head into the play-in where they ran into Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns and essentially running out of gas against the Houston Rockets in a game that only three players -- Wembenyama, Devin Vassell and Stephon Castle -- scored double-digit points.
San Antonio does have a budding 'Big 3' to build around in those aforementioned players, plenty of draft capital and enough cap space to make some moves in the offseason to get over that hump and return to the playoffs.

Detroit Pistons win the NBA Draft Lottery following years of bad luck
Cooper Flagg isn't heading to Utah after all (it seems) with the Detroit Pistons, after years of falling short in the lottery, securing the number one overall pick.
The first surprise of the night came when the Pelicans jumped from the sixth pick into the top four with Brooklyn falling out. The Jazz, who had the worst record in the NBA, fell to the fourth pick, continuing a trend of the NBA's worst record not receiving the top pick. Detroit had been on the wrong end of that, going three straight seasons with the NBA's worst record and getting the fifth pick each year.
The Pistons are expected to draft Duke's Cooper Flagg, the consensus number one player in the draft.
