I play the games, despite their record Ark State is the highest rated team we've played since Kentucky I believe, my sliders have changed since that game. We'll see about running the table. if we do I hope UCLA and VA Tech do as well.

SENIOR SAFETY CEDRICK TILLMAN'S DIVING INTERCEPTION SEALED THE WIN FOR LOUISIANA
It took a diving interception by Cedrick Tillman in the endzone on fourth and goal with six seconds left in the game for Louisiana to put away Arkansas State in a game that turned out to be the closest the Cajuns have played this season.

Louisiana trailed 10-7 after the first quarter with Arkansas State scoring first when DeZmond Stegall connected with J.D. McKissic for a 25 yard score. Stegall would throw for 328 yards and a pair of scores, using McKissic and former Michigan receiver Jehu Chesson heavily.

Lousiana, who was without starting quarterback Brooks Haack, tied the game when Jalen Nixon found Adam Savoie for a 56 yard score on a seam route.

Arkansas State added a field goal by Victor Barrett later in the quarter.

Louisiana kicker Jeffrey Yatkowski added a pair of field goals in the second quarter and the Cajuns led 13-10 at halftime.

Nixon was dragged down awkwardly, twisting his leg under his body late in the second quarter and did not return to the game, leaving redshirt sophomore Matt Hayden as the only available quarterback.

Hayden would extend the Louisiana lead when he found Scott Austin on a deep crossing route for a 37 yard touchdown in the third quarter.

Yatkowski added a 19 yard field goal early in the fourth quarter to put the Cajuns on top 23-10.

Late in the game Stegall found McKissic deep down the left sideline when he got the Louisiana secondary with a double move. McKissic had a six yard cushion when he crossed the goalline on the 56 yard scoring play.

Following a Louisiana punt Arkansas State took possession on their own 20 yard line with 1:29 left to play. After a pair of completions to runningback Michael Gordon brought them out to the 40 yard line Stegall connected with Cheson for a gain of 33 yards. After spiking the ball and an incompletion Stegall hit tight end Darion Griswold for a gain of 27 yards, putting the ball at the one yard line. After another spike Stegall hit tight end Jonah Hill on a swing route but he was quickly brought down behind the line by Louisiana linebacker George Hill. Stegall's next pass was batted down, bringing up a fourth and goal from the three yard line with six seconds left to play.

Stegall took the snap and dropped back, the protection was good. McKissic, who had lined up wide left, planted and made a in cut on a slant. There was a moment of opportunity when McKissic got a step on Jevante Watson and Stegall led him but Tillman was there to make a diving interception and came down with the ball clean to end the game.

"What a play!" Coach Porter Davis said after the game. "As a coach you hope to call the right plays to get players in position to have an opportunity to make a play like that. The stars aligned on that one and Cedrick made a heck of a play!"

Defensive end Dominique Tovell notably recorded his 15th sack of the season, breaking his own record of 14 from last season. When asked about his personal success Tovell just wanted to talk about the great team effort it took to get the win.

Jalen Nixon will be evaluated Monday but Coach Porter did not believe he would be available for next week's regular season finale against Louisiana-Monroe. Brooks Haack's status has been stated as day to day. If neither of them can go then Matt Hayden, who finished the day 4/4 for 75 yards and a score, would get the start. The team would then likely burn freshman Rashad Brooks redshirt status to make him available as a backup.

Four Star WR Fordinal Announces Commitment to Louisiana
By Bill Connelly

Seconds after the final gun sounded in Louisiana's close win over Arkansas State four star wide receiver Michael Fordinal of Pineville, Louisiana took to Twitter to formally announce his intentions to sign with the Cajuns.

“That game was so hype and even though it was a road game you could tell the Cajuns fans were so into it. It was mad wild.” He said in his tweet.

“We were all on a pretty high note after the game.” Coach Porter Davis explained. “One of our G.A.s showed me the tweet when we were getting on the bus. This is an excellent signing for us. Michael is going to be a great fit here and we're all stoked, both sides.”

Fordinal said that Louisiana moved ahead of South Carolina a couple weeks ago when during his visit Coach Davis and the offensive staff showed him “like 100 ways they would get me the ball”.

With current slot receiver Adam Savoie moving on after this season Fordinal could find himself in a significant role next fall as a true freshman.

Savoie also had Oregon, Oregon State and Washington in his top five.

“Originally I thought the Pac 12 was the fun place to be as a receiver but I been schooled on that now.”

Cajuns Add Pair of Four Star Defensive Linesmen to Already Deep Recruiting Class
By Bill Connelly

“We've been aggressive, very aggressive.” Louisiana head coach Porter Dsvis said after adding another duo of four star recruits yesterday. “We've definitely gotten some sideways glances from the bigger schools going after some of these guys but we're honest with them and we show them what we have planned for them and I think they really appreciate that as opposed to some of the cliches and smoke they get from other programs.”

The two latest additions are Chandler Ridgeway of Burleson, Texas and Perry Paulsen from Olive Branch, Mississippi.

Paulsen and Ridgeway are the 20th and 28th best defensive end prospects in the nation according to Rivals.com.

Louisiana has already landed two other players listed as defensive ends earlier this season.

“We love to use a number of different defensive fronts.” Porter Davis explained. “For us to be able to have success with that we need great depth and skill versatility at those positions so these signings reflect that.”

Current starting defensive ends Dominique Tovell and Chris Prater are seniors and the team currently lacks depth at defensive tackle so this class could help prevent a big drop off in talent at those positions.

Paulsen is currently starring at Northpoint Christian School in Southaven, Mississippi and leads the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association in sacks and tackles for loss, as he did last year.

Ridgeway plays tight end and defensive line at Burleson Centennial High School in Burleson, Texas and has been a force for the Spartans since switching to football from soccer as a sophomore.

Paulsen visited with USC and UCLA before ultimately deciding to stay closer to home. He also visited Clemson but felt more comfortable with the Louisiana coaching staff and felt he had more potential for early playing time with the Cajuns.

Ridgeway took several visits including UTSA, New Mexico State, Louisiana Tech and Arkansas State. He was present when the Cajuns topped Arkansas State last weekend. Ridgeway preferred Louisiana's campus, coaching staff and versatile defensive scheme.

DE DOMINIQUE TOVELL RECORDED FOUR SACKS IN THE GAME, BRINGING HIS SEASON TOTAL TO 19
With sophomore Matt Hayden under center the Cajuns leaned heavily on their defense and running game as they survived a real scare against Louisiana-Monroe, hanging on to take a 13-7 win and finish up with a perfect 12-0 record and another Sun Belt Conference championship, possibly their last.

Louisiana was led by defensive end Dominique Tovell who recorded a school record four sacks in the win and pushed his single season school record to 19.

Hayden finished the game with 119 yards on 10 of 18 passing with no turnovers. Montrel Carter led the team with 48 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Carter also led the team in receiving with 54 yards on four receptions.

"Hey a win is a win, there's no style points." Head coach Porter Davis said after the game. "It was a tough game and we came out on top thanks to our defense and a mistake free offense. No shame in that."

Louisiana is hoping that UCLA or Virginia Tech will falter in their respective Conference Championship games so that the Cajuns can have a chance to play for the National Championship and prove that they belong.

Trio of Top Fives Puts Louisiana in the Running for Best Class
By Bill Connelly

Having already secured the services of 16 quality recruits, including five Rivals, com four stars and seven three stars, Louisiana's staff hit a home run just days after beating Louisiana-Monroe to finish their regular season with a perfect 12-0 record.

“Obviously we are extremely excited about the season we've had on the field.” Coach Porter Davis said. “But it's been equally as exciting in recruiting for us. We've been able to get a ton of talented players and also quality individuals. There's not one signing where we weren't 100% sold on a guy.”

Louisiana received commitments from Rivals.com's #5 runningback in the nation, the #2 cornerback and the #1 quarterback all in the span of three days following their final regular season game.

“We're not rebuilding, we're reloading.” Davis tweeted.

DELMOND BOUDREAUX
CB – Morgan City, Louisiana
4* - #2 CB
5'10” 173
Delmond Boudreaux is a four star rated cornerback from Morgan City, Louisiana. He had hinted at signing with Oklahoma early in the season but decided to flip to Louisiana for a few reasons, most notably staying in state and the chance to be a starter as a true freshman as current starters Jevante Watson and Jamal Rainey will be moving on after this season. Sophomore corner Troy McCollum reportedly helped convince Boudreaux to sign.

“We are all in on these great in-state guys.” Coach Davis explained. “We've got great competition for them in state and we would be remiss to let them go somewhere out of state.”

Boudreaux is comfortable playing man or zone and as stated above should have a chance to be a day one starter.

JOESEPH HOLLINS III
HB – Moss Point, Mississippi
5* - #5 HB
5'11 207
Despite being rated as a five start recruit and the #5 runningback in the nation by Rivals.com Joeseph Hollins III wasn't feeling the love during his recruitment until Louisiana head coach Porter Davis insured him that he would be a runningback if he came to Lafayette.

“I guess I don't look like a runningback to a lot of people.” Hollins said after taking a number of schools off his list, all of which intended to turn him into a slot receiver, safety or linebacker.

“I want to play runningback, I want those touches.”

Hollins led all of Mississippi in rushing yardage and touchdowns this past season and also as a junior.

An unnamed scout for an SEC school that targeted him early on said that a number of scouts didn't feel he was truly a runningback and felt he could help a team better at a different position.

Mississippi and Mississippi State were at the top of his list during his junior season but quickly fell off when they suggested position changes.

Hollins comes into a situation where three of the top four runningbacks will be moving on. He should have an opportunity to contribute as a freshman behind Kyle Hicks.

JORDAN MCALARY
QB – Durant, Mississippi
5* - #1 QB
5'11” 195
Jordan McAlary is another player that many of the larger programs were interested in before he made it clear that he was not interested in playing another position. His height, or lack thereof, had most of the Power Five schools thinking a position change was best. Schools were also afraid of the possibility that McAlary would chose to pursue professional baseball as he was drafted by the Royals.

“We've seen his tape.” Coach Porter Davis said after the signing was announced. “We know he can play the position and play it at a high level. We're not concerned with some measurements that apparently scared some schools off. The numbers we care about 33 and 107.” He continued, referencing the number of wins and touchdowns McAlary compiled at Central Holmes Christian School in three seasons as their starting quarterback.

“It's a great culture there.” McAlary said after his signing was announced. “That's a program that's rising, it's a great coaching staff. They got some big stuff coming down the line too that's very cool, big things.”

Assuming there are no outgoing transfers between now and the start of the 2017 season McAlary should have a clear path to the starting job although current redshirt sophomore Matt Hayden will be trying to win the job after Brooks Haack and Jalen Nixon depart. Current freshman Rashad Brooks is also a factor as is incoming recruit D'Eriq Robinette, although a position change has already been discussed for Robinette.
