Can't seem to string together some W, hopefully this is the start of one
We're hanging tough so far. But, we're certainly in the position where a hot streak has us in first and a cold streak has our well outside of the playoff picture.

Your old guys stepping up here the past couple of games, love to see it!

And getting a dub over Winnipeg isn’t easy - good job taking them down

No old - vintage. Hellebucyk is one hell of a goalie, so our offense putting 5 on them was good to see. We continue.

Can the red-hot Pittsburgh Penguins survive without their captain and number one defenseman?

Sidney Crosby, Erik Karlsson out with injuries, Pens call in reinforcements

PITTSBURGH, PA -- - The Pittsburgh Penguins are the hottest team in hockey at the moment, currently riding a seven-game winning streak after destroying the Vancouver Canucks last night, 8-2. The team, however, will be without two of their bright stars going forward. The team announced this afternoon that captain and superstar Sidney Crosby and number one defenseman Erik Karlsson will be out for the next few weeks with different lower-body injuries.

Head coach Mike Sullivan announced the injuries during the post-practice scrum with the media this afternoon. Crosby, having scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season last night while adding two more assists, finished the game but did not practice this afternoon. Sullivan mentioned that Crosby is nursing a "lower extremity" injury and he is more week-to-week than he is day-to-day.

"Sid takes extremely good care of his body, and he has an intuition unlike any other," Sullivan commented. "He'll be back when the time is right and it is our job as a team to weather the storm until he is back."

Karlsson, one of the newer addition to the Penguins' roster, has been dealing with some "bumps and bruises" the last few games according to Sullivan, but will be missing time with "a hamstring thing that's been bothering him the last little bit". Karlsson, the 34-year-old Swedish former captain of the Ottawa Senators and multi-winner of the Norris Trophy as the league's top defenseman, has opted for the safer route of sitting games now to rest up for the 4 Nations tournament that is looming.

In replacement, the team has called up defenseman Jack St. Ivany from their AHL affiliate, fhe Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. St. Ivany, a 25-year-old right handed defenseman that has split time between the NHL and AHL last season, has three goals and eight points through 14 games played for the Baby Penguins, skating an average of 22:44 per game.

The team is inserting forward Boko Imama into the lineup to replace Crosby, with the offensive production replacement expected to come from Evgeni Malkin, who has historically played some of his best hockey over the course of his career with Crosby out of the lineup.

The Penguins return to play tomorrow night as they ship up to Boston to face off against David Pastrnak and the Boston Bruins at TD Garden.
