Rutgers cannot be an easy rebuild considering the less-than-fertile recruiting grounds and the monster programs in the Big Ten to compete against.

Rutgers is solid and the north east surprisingly has a lot of talent recruiting, at least did in 25. I snagged some beasts at Syracuse.

The amount of times Rutgers stole commits from me. Seeing their logo may have given me a smidge of PTSD. But, excellent choice.

Let's fucking go.

2024 Season Marked as Turning Point For Knights, Schiano

Rutgers enters 2025 fueled by offensive momentum and strategic roster reshaping, as Greg Schiano bets on quarterback continuity, portal precision, and defensive reconstruction to close the gap with Big Ten’s second tier.

PISCATAWAY, NJ -- Greg Schiano’s Scarlet Knights wrapped up the 2024 campaign with a 7–6 record, including a 4–5 mark in Big Ten play, their best conference showing since joining the league. Rutgers opened the season with a 4–0 burst, highlighted by a gritty road win at Virginia Tech and a landmark victory over Washington. But midseason turbulence—four straight losses to Nebraska, Wisconsin, UCLA, and USC—exposed depth concerns and defensive inconsistencies.

Still, the Knights rallied in November, going 3–1 and securing bowl eligibility for the second straight year. They fell short in the Rate Bowl, dropping a 44–41 shootout to Kansas State, but the offense showed real firepower, scoring 376 points, the most in the Big Ten era for Rutgers

Standout Performers

QB Athan Kaliakmanis: 2,696 passing yards, 18 TDs, and a steady hand in late-game situations

RB Kyle Monangai: 1,279 rushing yards, 13 TDs, and All-America honors.

WR Ian Strong & WR Dymere Miller: Combined for over 1,400 receiving yards.

Defensively, LB Dariel Djabome led the charge with 105 tackles, while the unit ranked top-5 nationally in turnover margin and fewest penalties.

▰▰▰

Season Preview: Depth, Defense, and Defining Moments

Rutgers enters 2025 with cautious optimism. The offense returns Kaliakmanis at QB, now with two years of Big Ten experience, and a revamped backfield led by FAU transfer CJ Campbell and sophomore Antwan Raymond. The receiving corps adds North Texas transfer DT Sheffield, a proven red-zone threat, alongside rising stars KJ Duff and Vernon Allen III.

The offensive line retains four starters but must replace NFL-bound Hollin Pierce at left tackle. Expect Tyler Needham and Taj White to anchor the edges.

Defensively, Schiano went portal-heavy, rebuilding the front seven with Eric O’Neill (James Madison), Bradley Weaver (Ohio), and Doug Blue-Eli (USF). The secondary adds Cam Miller (Penn State) and Jacobie Henderson (Marshall), aiming to fix last year’s pass rush woes.

Key Storylines to Watch

Quarterback Continuity: Kaliakmanis is the first Rutgers QB in nearly a decade to start consecutive seasons. Can he elevate his completion rate and push the offense into top-tier Big Ten territory?

Replacing Monangai: The committee approach in the backfield will be tested early. Campbell’s explosiveness and Raymond’s familiarity with the system are pivotal.

Defensive Identity: With a new co-coordinator setup (Robb Smith and Zach Sparber), the defense must improve against the run and generate pressure—especially in October’s gauntlet.

Schedule Brutality: Rutgers faces Oregon, Ohio State, Penn State, Washington, and Illinois, with only Purdue and Maryland offering breathing room.

Breakout Candidates: Keep an eye on Vernon Allen III, Jourdin Houston, and LB Sam Robinson, all of whom flashed in spring ball.

2025 Football Schedule

Aug 28 – vs. Ohio (Piscataway, NJ)

Sep 6 – vs. Miami (OH) (Piscataway, NJ)

Sep 13 – vs. Norfolk State (Piscataway, NJ)

Sep 19 – vs. Iowa (Piscataway, NJ)

Sep 27 – at Minnesota (Minneapolis, MN)

Oct 10 – at Washington (Seattle, WA)

Oct 18 – vs. Oregon (Piscataway, NJ)

Oct 25 – at Purdue (West Lafayette, IN)

Nov 1 – at Illinois (Champaign, IL)

Nov 8 – vs. Maryland (Piscataway, NJ)

Nov 22 – at Ohio State (Columbus, OH)

Nov 29 – vs. Penn State (Piscataway, NJ)

Rutgers may not be ready to challenge the Big Ten elite just yet, but the foundation is firm. A third straight bowl appearance is within reach—if the Knights can survive November.
