I mean if you don't give up that 77 yarder in the 2ndQ this is a whole different game.

We don't count morale victories around here, but if you can build on that to finish the year strong I'd say its still a solid 1st year

Can't be mad at that given the circumstances. Not a win, but doesn't feel like a whole loss either.

Kaliakmanis Returns in Time for Crucial Purdue Clash, Recruiting Battle Looms

Rutgers QB returns from knee injury while recruiting heats up with new commitments and a high-stakes battle for top linebacker prospect.

PISCATAWAY, NJ -- After missing last week’s road test against No. 1 Oregon with a sprained knee, Rutgers starting quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis has been medically cleared to return and will start against Purdue on Saturday.

The senior was sidelined early in the Washington game and ruled out for the Oregon contest with a low-grade sprain. His absence left the Scarlet Knights scrambling offensively in a 28-20 loss to the Ducks. With Kaliakmanis back under center, Rutgers is hoping to restore some stability and rhythm in its passing attack as it enters a pivotal stretch in Big Ten play.

"Athan’s shown toughness all year," said Head Coach Greg Schiano after Tuesday’s practice. "He's prepared, focused, and ready to go. We’re excited to have him back."

Rutgers will need Kaliakmanis' steady hand and quick decision-making to navigate a Purdue defense that ranks fifth in the conference in sacks and thrives on disguising pressure. The Knights, hungry for a bounce-back win, must also shore up protection up front and establish a ground game to ease the load.

Recruiting Trail: Recruiting Battle Brews as Rutgers Adds Speed

While the current roster fights through adversity, the Scarlet Knights are laying groundwork for the future, adding a flash of speed and entering a tug-of-war for a difference-maker on defense.

Rutgers signed 3-star wide receiver Bret Ismail from Hightstown, NJ. A blur in space at 5’8", 183 lbs, Ismail boasts top-tier acceleration and shows promise as a slot weapon and return specialist. Though his route running and release need refinement, his straight-line burst and decent hands give Rutgers an intriguing project with breakout potential.

"We're excited about Bret’s upside," said director of recruiting Ramon Ruiz. "He’s got game-breaking traits and a great attitude."

But the biggest storyline now centers around Mohammed Ejiofor, a 4-star linebacker out of Jersey City who’s currently weighing Rutgers and Boston College. Ejiofor is the Scarlet Knights’ No. 1 remaining target on the board after losing out on elite quarterback Antonio Page to Penn State earlier this month.

At 6’0", 219 lbs with a downhill attacking style and sideline-to-sideline range, Ejiofor fits the mold of the versatile linebackers Rutgers covets. He’s viewed as a potential impact player on Day One and has already taken official visits to both campuses.

With the battle heating up, Rutgers is pulling out all the stops—proximity to home, defensive scheme fit, and elite conference exposure are all being emphasized as the Knights look to close the deal.
