NOTES & QUOTES

Heat Starting Five: Tony Parker, Antonio Snow, Josh Richardson, Carmelo Anthony, Hassan Whiteside

Summary: Milwaukee was facing elimination tonight and they played like it. Unfortunately, Miami was playing like a team ready to move on. The game was closely contested from start to finish. Antonio Snow got off to a slow start, putting up only 9 points in the first half, six of those came on a pair of three pointers in the second quarter to give Miami a small cushion.

Milwaukee was not going away quietly, as they went on a 17-6 run at the end of the third quarter to take a 79-71 lead. They looked poised to take the win and bring the series back to Milwaukee for Game 6. Miami’s bench came through to start the fourth quarter and gave the Heat a 1 point lead with 4:33 left in the fourth quarter. Antonio Snow brought the defense in the fourth quarter, coming up with three blocks on three possessions that lead to points for the Heat allowing Miami to move build some momentum. Carmelo Anthony scored all 12 of his points in the second half to extend that lead.

Both of Miami’s bigs, Hassan Whiteside and Bam Adebayo, posted double-doubles in the victory.

Key Stats for MIL: 38/79 (49%) - FG|10/11 (91%) - FT |30 – Fastbreak Points|42 – Points in Paint|4 – Second Chance Points|31 – Bench Points|25 – Assists|38 – Rebounds|8 - Steals| 8 (11) – Turnovers (Points Off)

Key Stats for MIA: 39/80 (48%) - FG|15/16 (94%) - FT |22 – Fastbreak Points|38 – Points in Paint|11 – Second Chance Points|24 – Bench Points|24 – Assists|42 – Rebounds|6 - Steals|10 (9) – Turnovers (Points Off)

Antonio Snow on closing out the Bucks: Feels good. Feels great. We knew going into it that they were going to give us everything they had. And they definitely did that. It was a little touch and go, but we got it done. We’re gonna enjoy it for a minute and turn our focus is to the next round.

Antonio Snow on his second half scoring outburst: First half was tough. We were only up two. The guys just looked to me and told me to do my thing. They had my back. So I came out and did that.

Erik Spoelstra on Carmelo Anthony’s clutch performance: He has been the guy this entire series. He has been a leader and a scorer that the players have been looking toward. He has been clutch for us. This is what we envisioned when we brought him in. This is what we knew he could do.

Carmelo Anthony looks revitalized in these playoffs

He stands at the top of the key and performs a few dribble moves before a quick jab step to the left and hitting a jumper.

“Hoodie Melo!” His teammate, rookie Antonio Snow yells from the sideline where he’s stretching. A nickname he earned in Summer 2017 while working out with famed trainer Chris Brickley. Hoodie Melo works about a 2 in the morning and Hoodie Melo does not miss baskets. Anthony doesn’t respond, he just smiles and grabs his rebound. Snow joins him on the court and a few more teammates file in over the next 15 minutes.

The Milwaukee Bucks had no answer for Carmelo Anthony who averaged 14 points per game during the first round of the playoffs. His defense was tight and his shots were clutch. He was just what Miami needed. He’s been rotated in and out of the starting lineup all season, but after a 2-point loss in Game 2, Coach Spoelstra went back to what was working.

“He gets it done for us on both ends of the court,” commented Spoelstra. “It’s weird to say, because I remember when he was drafted, but he is a smart and savvy veteran.”

It’s true, Anthony, Dwyane Wade, and LeBron James were all members of that great 2003 Draft Class, it’s hard to believe that was almost 17 years ago and they are all making an impact on their current teams. Miami signed Anthony at the end of October and it’s looking like they made the right decision.

“I came in here asking what this team needed of me. That was question number one. I knew they had the young guys with Snow, Bam, and J-Rich, Justice. I knew they weren’t bringing me in to drop twenty points a night. So, I just wanted to know where I fit in.”

He is definitely showing that he knows and owns his role on this Miami Heat team on the quest for the franchise’s fourth title.
