Lakers come away with gritty victory over a highly energized Bulls team
LaVine sends game into overtime, LeBron takes over in extra period

In just about six weeks LeBron James will be 40 years old and he'll be the as his teammates have described him, the youngest 40-year-old they know, but who knows how many more times we will get the opportunity to see James reach back into the past and show off a glimpse of what he once was. He's going to be around for at least two more seasons after this one, but at what point will he not be able to do what he has done for the past 22 years? The Lakers took a fifteen-point lead into the fourth quarter, 82-67, but the Bulls scratched and clawed their way back into the game. Derrick Jones Jr. knocked down his second three-pointer of the quarter with 1:35 remaining to tie the game up 95-95. The Lakers answered down at other end with a dunk by Jarred Vanderbilt. Following two free throws by Nikola Vucevic to tie the game up 97-97, the Lakers retook the lead on a dunk by LeBron James. With 30 seconds left to go in the game and the shot clock winding down Zach LaVine buried a go ahead three-pointer, putting the Bulls up 100-99. The Lakers got the ball inbounded quickly and James was able to drive a lane and score on a layup while getting fouled in the process. James knocked down the free throw, putting the Lakers up 102-100. With just 9 seconds left, LaVine drove to the basket and found Nikola Vucevic on the left block for a layup that tied the game at 102-102. The Lakers had the final shot but Derrick Jones Jr came up with a huge block on Anthony Davis at the rim sending the game into overtime. In the overtime period, LeBron James took over, scoring eight of the Lakers 14 points as the Lakers went 6-for-6 from the free throw line and pulled away with a 116-110 victory. LeBron James finished with a season-high 40 points, hitting 17-of-29 shots from the field and 4-of-7 from the three-point line. Anthony Davis who picked up his fifth foul late in the fourth quarter finished with 29 points, 17 rebounds and three blocks. Andre Drummond, who played for the Bulls the past two seasons added a season-high 10 points and pulled down 17 rebounds. Zach LaVine led the Bulls with 39 points, five rebounds, nine assists and one steal. Nikola Vucevic put up 25 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and off the bench Coby White had 17 points, hitting 7-of-13 from the field. The win put the Lakers over .500 for the first time this season at 4-3 now and they have won two in a row and four of their last five. Meanwhile the Bulls after winning their opening night contest have now lost five in a row.
